If you win a major championship, good for you. If you also show integrity and commitment to your family your whole life, then you're one of the greats. There aren't many golfers or athletes who have built the kind of reputation that Jack has. He's truly the greatest.
The gem here is how happily he embraced the pressure of the moment in tournament play, a trait that was fundamental to his success.
Jack Nicklaus was the player who got me excited about golf
This man is a true gentleman. A great ambassador for sport in general, not just for golf.
He’s a royal douchebag IMO
Scott johnson is a nobody jealous douchebag.
@@rollingnay why do you think that?
@@ronoccc just the vibe I got from him following him / golf my whole life. Thought tiger was a jerk too (until recently) . Arnold and Phil were my kind of guys. Just my opinion. He still the greatest at golf.
No question. Jack was the greatest and raised a great family. Jack's biggest win.......a great wife.
"Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” - Muhammad Ali
I like how he answered the question without realizing it
Absolutely the best. Thank you Jack
Great minds think alike. Greg Norman gave very similar answers to the same interviewer regarding selfishness and pressure.
"Golf was part of my life, not my life" that is a true professional
Jack did not appreciate being interrupted
Love the guy, the world needs more like him, a great role model, upstanding gentleman.
Well, Barbara definitely landed a big fish when she married Jack.
AMAZING
"Handling pressure, is the fun" 💛👍⛳
The greatest champion and brain for the game ever. Did all he did , while raising a family and actually taking time off. Hogan was probably the best ball striker ever, but Jack was thee best overall.
Naw
Nicklaus wasn't the best overall player. He was just the best when the stage got brighter, and the Money got bigger.
Moe Norman the greatest ball striker ever, and it's not even close
Class act
You are the best Jack
Jack is a class act on all fronts.
Unlike Tiger, Jack knew when to use a driver, and when to take the wheel himself.
And when not to cheat on his wife.....
@@nopenottoday8490 as far as we know.
@@azieldaly2965 Not Jack....
@@nopenottoday8490 This is the real world buddy. They were all doing it especially in Jack's day. Tiger just got caught.
@@azieldaly2965 Just because you do, doesn't mean he did...
The GOAT .....nothing but class.
Dead right on “golfers being selfish” to be a great one. That goes for any solitary endeavor. A well rounded super hero is a misnomer.
Who the heck is Antonio Kowarski? His comment is that THIS GUY, Jack Nicklaus, has alot of excuses for not winning more majors? Have you looked at his record before opening your mouth? He is the unquestioned greatest golfer to don cleats. Must have been born under a rock.
Great people, Champions in any walk of life just think differently to most people.
If you needed the putt to win the championship, it’s Tiger. If you needed the putt to save your life, it’s Jack Nicklaus
I always thought that just play the game and forget about side business. Do it till you retire
Fans will love you more for that
Mr. NICKLAUS WANTIMG TO WIN IS WHY THERE ARE CHAMPIONS U WANTED TO WIN AND YOUR A CHAMPION
3:43 - "I don't like to get beat no matter what I do". Awesome... Graham is right... there's a fire underneath there... HAS to be...
Nick Faldo ! Now there is a " me" person . Even his shadow has to request the right to follow him .
Yes sir. And I wish that he would shut up.
Well..he has 6 more majors than us mate
The GOAT.
Barbara caught the biggest fish. Jack
I think Jack would say just the opposite.
Never realized it before but the more I listen to him, the more I see he has the same fierce competitive spirit as Michael Jordan. Jack does a better job at masking it from the public though.
Not at all did we watch the same video. He said when others beat him that was "fine." Jordan would never say something like that.
He may not rate himself the best - he's the only man on the planet who thinks this way.
Actually I think he said it wouldn’t be fair for him to rate himself as the best, and it’s better for others to rate their own goats. Imo, deep inside, he probably ranks himself as the goat based on his 18 slams and all those runner-ups.
@@radinsyah1574 Couldn't agree more with you tbh buddy. ..... I'm a massive golf fan for the pros and love the history of the legends before and current say .....personally think & believe Ken Venturi stated this spot on regarding who was the greatest of all time. ....he said like many other tbh that Nicklaus is the greatest champion of all time which to most of us is pretty obvious just by his major record etc. ...but the greatest ball striker and course manager of all time goes to Mr Hogan every time. ...and yes I know some of you might state could that be biased from Ken V due to being close and one of his mentors but even people who weren't associated with Mr Hogan past and present still agree with that statement. ......Tiger said that he personally believes that Mr Hogan is still the most revered and mythical golfer of all time. ....I'm not in anyway disrespecting Jack Nicklaus in anyway OK just stating what I truly believe. ......also different generations almost impossible to compare it's the same when they compare Nicklaus to Tiger just can't or shouldn't even try there all legends for all eternity
The man. GOAT? Not necessarily. But class? You bet. And remember how he spoke about Tiger when Tiger imploded: with respect. The man teaches us how to behave.
Yes. Necessarily.
The goat for many reasons. Most majors most class are two of them.
This guys hair line 👀😂🤦🏻♂️
His comments about loving the pressure explains a lot about why he was so great. All of us love to win, but we don't all love the pressure. Me? I'd prefer to win by 10 strokes and to heck with the pressure! The fact that Nicklaus seemed to relish it, to revel in it, is why he was so good for so long. Its a very healthy way to deal with stress.
I was no Nicklaus, but I was a good young player. The best I ever played was in the biggest tournaments. I really liked the pressure. I get how Jack did. It was exciting and it really focused me and put me in the moment. I agree with him that that's the fun. It makes you dig out the best you have.
GOAT!
Tiger is the GOAT
2nd nice interview though
He should come to 'Skegness' and see if he can eat the biggest fish - think my wife would beat him in this arena.
Some golfers are smart...they get an early tee time on the weekends, before their wife/family gets up. This way they get out of the house before the wife starts "tasking them to death". By the time they get back home their wives are out the house shopping/getting their hair done and when they return it is time to go to dinner. I used to work at a golf club and at first I would scratch my head why these men would spend so much time/money on a game that can be so frustrating..but then after a while I figured it out. The others are the financial investment advisors hat join golf clubs primarily to get business contacts/clients.
Always "a good sport."
Well said! Absolute truth... Golf is an individual sport & anything else said about it in that context is BS. So, when PGA golfers today, keep saying, "we" did not play well today, that is TOTAL BS! Yes, understood that the Pro is trying to be kind to his support staff & by using "we" instead of "I" but saying "We" all the time, thats BS. Same with team golf & other aspects of the game. All Good golfers are selfish, the other ones are just loosers!
Well yeah golfers can be that way it's not a team sport
He sounds like Joe Pesci.
Oh yeah, what about Tiger? What about racecar drivers?
Tiger is the goat. Jack was the original goat.
@Jerry Parker That's rather harsh.
Until someone wins 19 Majors, Jack is the GOAT. It’s an individual sport not a team sport like Basketball where most consider Jordan the GOAT over Bill Russell.
@@austinhowser7838 Level of competition and Tiger revolutionized the game.
@@the-savr Level of competition easily goes to Nicklaus!!!
Tiger is now being sued by his ex girl friend. His game sucks and his personal life sucks. No GOAT for him.
How is Graham Bensingser an actual legit interviewer? He's awkward, ill informed and unpersonable. I've watched so many interviews and he's lucky people like Jack are able to see past that and give their perspective
John Daly is the best all time
Agree. Love long john
24BIGDYL you troll
Maybe biggest lol
A drunken vandal.
You maybe the best golfer ever....However by charging double of what any other golf course architect charged....Your ego is unsurpassed. tell the audience how you made a course in Nashville hire the pro you choose, have 50% of the pro shop be McGregor and Nicklaus merchandise, then have 5 holes wash away after a storm....They fired the pro, threw McGregor out and dared you to sue them.
Lighten up Francis.
Kuchar lol
He has the most Majors, and like an ex-President working hard to build his image daily...
I think the " King " had a good influence on him..
This is awkward.
Trevino ate his lunch on a regular basis
I have tremendous respect for Nicklaus and his accomplishments , but he just comes across to me as a jerk, i have tried to think otherwise, but he just rubs me the wrong way. My lady friend volunteer's here in Columbus at The Children's Hospital and they had an event there that Nicklaus attended, she doesn't follow golf and didn't know who he was, she said he was so rude , and didn't want the very sick children in the picture with him.
One story second hand doesn't make the man. Even if he straight out said screw you that wouldn't out weigh all the tremendous accomplishments of this great man on and off the course. That hospital probably wouldn't be there if not for Mr. Nicklaus.
I worked at a golf course and tournament where Jack played and I interacted briefly with him handful of times as staff over the years. My impression was never that he was jerk. He was always respectful. He just isn't warm and fuzzy like Phil Mickelson but he isn't rude. People build up a guy like Jack and have a view of how he should act but would never in a million years hold themselves or a neighbor to the standard. He is a guy who reluctantly but dutifully interacts with people. Not everyone is Mr. Extrovert. The odds he refused a picture like you said because he was being rude and disdainful of sick kids are 0.00000000000%. There might have been a reason why didn't want someone in the shot but it isn't because he hates sick kids. Zero chance that is what happened.
I can't stand that dude - the interviewer - but hey a lot of people do so all good. He comes up on my algorithm probably for golf stuff. Oh well
He was never as talented as Tiger Woods, just a lot more fortunate health wise
@Alex Robinson. I don't think anyone ever said Jack has more talent then Tiger. But he still won more majors. Also, Tiger grew with a situation that NOBODY else had. His dad was retired when he was just a young boy (since his dad was older when he had him). Also his dad had access to the military base courses and they lived in a warm climate. Even country club kids with wealthy parents, didn't have the kind of time/coaching/emotional support that Tiger's Dad gave to him, to mold him into what he became HOwever, I also realize Tiger being both black and asian was at times a struggle Jack never encountered. And anyone that doesn't admit this is ignorant.
He was a better golfer.
@@sanansa4567
Jack was better. Period.
No ignorance involved.
Great golfer but could compromise his legacy by associating with Trump. Too bad.
Show me a good golfer and I will show you a lousy father, just how it is.
In most cases but Jack never played more than 2 weeks in a row and was always there for all his kids
he destroyed his legacy by joining the trump cult
Yes, the legacy destroyed by political view... in your mind. Not everybody's.
Oh little princess. Can you show everyone on this doll where he hurt you?
This guy has a lot of excuses for not getting more majors. A case of fear of failure?
You are ill informed.
Antonio, best to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
He doesn't need any more majors. No one has matched his record yet and unlikely to anytime soon.
He won a few tournaments in the weeds and dirt in Britain. Big Deal. He won a long time ago when no one played very good. Tiger could spot him 10 strokes a round easy.
I saw some old footage of this guy. Not impressed. He would not be a pro in this day and age. Not enough talent and he was way overweight, patheti
