i wish mattel would release an all star edition wherein they will use barbie's official facemolds through different era's. superstar, mackie, generation girls, christie, kira and teresa etc.
I agree about the Looks dolls. They were the best thing that happened to Barbie in decades, maybe ever. New, unique face sculpts, quality screenings and hair, and (some) great fashion. I wanted a Barbie Looks denim line so bad. As for the Basics, I was hoping for articulated Model Muse.
I’m happy that there’s a successor to the Looks line. I was very sad when I heard they were cancelled. I’m also excited to see what direction they take. Hoping for fashion packs as well. A set of Basic Kens would be excellent but in the different body types and skintones everyone has been asking for so they’ll get purchased even if they’re just wanted for body swaps.

I was devastated when I heard that the look line was discontinued, only today I started seeing the Barbie Basic line and was so happy. Kit looks gorgeous. As long as we have new MTM doll available I'm happy. Great
as much as i love the barbie looks, a lot of them now become way too expensive for what they are. yes they look absolutely amazing but the quality control is never trustworthy enough for me to buy them online. resellers (99% being scalpers) will milk the hell out of this line. i always say im too behind with the releases for each wave, and due to my living situation especially back in the days, i never get to end up completing the collection. it’s a little sad, but if all of the barbie looks end up being reproduced just one last time, maybe there’s a chance of me filling in the (very huge) collection gap…..
Thanks for posting this. I was very glum when I head they were discontinuing the Looks dolls, but this new line looks pretty great. Wish that there was a Ken in the group, but maybe later. Would love some new Ken sculpts, but would be happy with new versions of existing sculpts. Intrigued about the holiday Ken and the Inspiring Ken dolls. Fingers crossed for more dolls in this line later in the year, too.
BTW tall/curvy mtm Barbies are a match for omg lol shoes 👀 90% of my Barbie shoes are from that series (you can buy them separately from resellers and/or other collectors) (also rainbow high clothes fit barbies sometimes and RH shoes (and omg lol clothes) fit the new monster high dolls. I bought most of these separately from the dolls or bought the doll, took the clothes and shoes and sold the doll nude (other collectors and just people with young kids that break their dolls often buy those)
I think you've got some great ideas. a numbering system of skin tones would be cool. also separated heads. I didn't know Barbie looks were discontinued! But glad to hear there is a replacement. I remember when the updated Barbie face came out in the TNT dolls. I thought that was the prettiest doll ever, and loved the rooted eyelashes!
I remember the TNT trade-in. My first Barbie was a brunette swirl but I didn't like her hair and wanted a blonde bubble cut like my cousin had. So I cut off all her hair and my mom had to buy some off-brand wigs for her. I should have had a Fashion Queen, LOL! I traded in my ungently loved swirl for a blonde TNT. I still think the TNT is the most beautiful face ever but I definitely love most of the contemporary faces, too!
I am so relieved they look to be blending the two lines. Paying collector prices for playline posability never made sense to me. I am both interested and concerned about this head swap system. Somehow, I feel like there has to be a catch with it. Also bummed there is no Ken in this first wave but, am hopeful that Mattel does something slick, like to keep both names, Signature Looks becomes the name for the Kens and Basics remains for the Barbies. A holiday Ken would be fantastic!
I used to just leave dolls in the box. But with the Looks and dolls i have thrifted i have enjoyed changing up their outfit and hair. The Made to Move hand are a pain in the neck to put thru long sleave shirts. They just need to have the fingers close together or just make the hands removable.
The Looks line is my fav, and this Basics looks promising! I’ll most likely get the Kit and Claudette ones. Wish the outfits were …more. Are they all dressed in dresses? Because separates would be more appealing, I think.
Been watching your videos for the first time and love your takes and chill vibes💚 In Japanese doll collecting, almost all the Licca and Jenny dolls on collector level come in undergarments to encourage people to open and restyle and I love that Barbie does something similar
Im disappointed because the made to move bodies look pedestrian in those cheap one size fits all outfits. A model muse body with articulation would have elevated even the most basic of t-shirt dresses. If they plan on adding size specific fashion packs then I can get behind it, but right now Mattel only has 3 or 4 decent fashion packs for the original body and none for the others. Why make basic dolls meant to strip down and dress up in new fashions when you aren’t going to provide said fashions? I’m just over it.
Yes, this, atleast get rid of that playline sculpted underwear, use the collector hands, and not those loafs of bread that the MTM have, and like BGBF said, posed hand sets would really make a huge difference.
I love these new Basics, and need all of them. I’m hoping we will see a male doll or two in the next wave. And we at least need accessory packs. The tall and curvy girls need shoes, and the muscular Ken body needs shoes.
I actually had a bad feeling that some collectors were going to complain about Kit's Outfit, and my theory was correct. I mean, we don't get many T-shirt dresses that go off the shoulder.
i super love that they gave them the mtm body because they're posable and i love taking pictures of them, hopefully they bring back lara, tori, mermaid and louboutin sculpt next year
Also, the Looks dolls were my only way (except the wheelchair line) to get MTM Ken bodies. Mattel doesn’t make Yoga/Sports MTM Kens or articulated Deluxe Style Kens - just Barbies. So if the new Barbie Basics line is Barbie-only, what do Ken MTM fans have? 😔
Yes, Mattel, give us hand packs!!! I do swap the hands out with my Integrity and AliExpress hands, but I'm tired of fiddling with them to make them fit.
Loved Barbie looks too and they introduced some beautiful new face sculpts and male dolls that I really appreciate and like. I also have most of the old Barbie Basics series and what about loved Barbie Basics is the variety of old face sculpt in skin tones, hair colors that we didn't see often at that time. This new Barbie Basics line I like but also feel bit underwhelmed compared to the Barbie looks but for the purpose of a basic line with mtm bodies for customizing it still works for me. Would have been nice (and smart) if they included one face 'older' sculpt, especially now we've seen the response to the Steffie rare find doll. I like the Karl face but it is a face sculpt that is already used a lot so that is probably the one I would have replaced with an older sculpt. But they are pretty and look good to me. Probably will get 2 of them maybe 3.
The Barbie Looks 2021 to 2024 will go down in history as Mattel's very best doll line. They're my favorite and I'm glad I got several of each. My only complaint is or was that Bill Greening made only one version of doll #3, Kit, Asian petite (wave 1), and doll #12, Freda, Latin curvy (wave 2.0). I would've loved a second version of these two dolls. However, he made three (3) versions of doll #4, Victoria tall (wave 1, wave 3, & wave 4); Doll #1 Lena, Latin, (wave 1, wave 3, & wave 4), and doll #7, Andra (wave 2, wave 3, & wave 4). Would I be the only one with this perspective, or does anyone else have a similar point of view? Thank you and love, joy, happiness, and peace to everybody in the doll community.
My only gripes with swapping Barbie looks for basics, is the colorful clothes and also no more kens. I will really miss the colorful pieces you can mix and match with the other dolls. That being said, I will be buying quite a few of these dolls if they aren't super expensive. Also I love the rant about the old Barbie purest & the rant about people hating on MTM bodies, Those comments are annoying lol But different people will like different things, I just wish it wasnt so talked about lol
This honestly is about was I was expecting, but I thought they would be using more of the old molds. However, 5 dolls is not a big representation of all the dolls they could make if this goes on for several waves. I am very happy to see Lea and Claudette, and I would love to see Mbili make a return. I would like to see a Ken, but I am the type of collector who is good with just a couple of “better-than-playline” Kens a year, so if they come in different lines, I’m fine with that. I love the addition of jewelry.

Oh YES! I knew you were going to mention removable hands! C’mon, Mattel - you’ve been manufacturing Barbie since 1959! I’ve been collecting Barbie since 1961. You can’t figure out an economical way to make removable hands? Today’s collector will definitely take the doll out of the box and would like to create their own look for the doll, which many times includes dressing her in clothing with long sleeves. IF I decide to purchase a Barbie, I will also purchase a body for this Barbie that’s made by Integrity Toys, just because it’s so easy to remove the hands. OK my rant is done. I love everything about these gals EXCEPT the Mattel pierced ears. I don’t want my dolls to miss half their ears to fit their earrings. But that’s my only beef. I’m psyched to get another Kit which is one of my fave fave sculpts.
I'm excited for more Ken dolls ! In my Looks collection, Ive only got the Ken with long black hair. I adore him ! Because there are not many Ken dolls with long hair. Or the ones that do, I don't like the face ups. I really should've got the blonde Looks Ken, but I didn't. Female dolls are my priority. I do also have the Extra Fly Ken, hes cool. But give me a good male doll & I'm here for it. ROOTED hair, please ! We have plenty of molded hair Kens.
Definitely bummed that the Looks line is discontinued. I only got back into Barbie about six months ago and would have liked to be there when the next wave was released. I prefer the MTM body but I appreciate the Model Muse. If I ran Mattel 😂 I would have kept both lines. The Basics would be on the Model Muse and Music Muse bodies with sophisticated versions of play line dolls like June, Crystal, Neysa, Daya, Mbili, and Kim. The Looks would be collector edition faces on MTM bodies. But no one asked me! 😂 I'm psyched to see the Kim face return. Definitely my favorite of the bunch. It's nice to see Claudette, Karl, and Heide again, and I love the Lea face, so no complaints about the face sculpts. The outfits are rather meh, but I get what Mattel is trying to do. I'm cautiously optimistic that there will eventually be Ken dolls in the line, maybe later this year. They have so many handsome Ken sculpts, and they could easily go back to the original Basics sculpts: Harley 2 and New Tango, like they reused the Basics 17 face on the newest Black (Buff) Looks doll. The Julio sculpt! Extra Fly Ken! I'm sad that so many doll collectors (not just Barbie people) dislike male dolls. I love male dolls! From the original Allan (my favorite) to crew-cut Ken to New, Good-Lookin' Ken, Wedding Day Alan with his molded MULLET to Harley 2 Ken, Jon, Sean, Cam, Brandon, and Basics 17, I love them!! I can't forget to add my favorite non-Mattel male doll, Tonner's Rufus Rutter, who looks a bit like a goofy nerd but has a sweetness and charm all his own. (The absence of him in the new Ellowyne Wilde line is reason enough to kill my interest in those dolls--so I'm back to Barbie and Ken! Dang. This is like a book now. TLDR: I'm with you in being pleased with the new Basics except for the so-so clothes, I love MTM bodies, and I hope, hope, HOPE that there will eventually be Basics MTM Kens. Maybe the next wave will be DENIM! Love your videos!
I think these dolls look promising. I will restyle and redress them just like I do the Looks dolls. I don't know who my favorite is, probably Claudette.
I’m excited to have the line back. The model muse fans could do body swapping of their own with the new neck feature. It’s not like there aren’t a ton of us who swap bodies who would be willing to sell them model muse bodies, likely at a reasonable price. So I fully don’t get the complaints about the body. That’s what we’ve been doing for ages, and I don’t get how it’s any different now that it’s them.
I personally love them. I suppose I was expecting more a "reboot" of the Basics Dolls sculpts, with a modern screening, but I'm still fine with the dolls they created. And, unfortunately for my wallet, I will buy them all 😅 I agree with you, Kit and Claudette eat it up!
I was more upset about the discontinuation of the Looks because of how I figured the “Hero” M2M body would also go by the wayside. I ooak superhero dolls so that body was a freaking godsend, and I didn’t have to drop $50+ to pick up a Superman/Batman doll just for the body (not to mention lack of other ethnicities).
The buff body Ken’s have sold extremely well so I doubt Mattel won’t use it anymore. They could use it on some of the new athlete Inspiring Men dolls, who knows?
Kit edges out Claudette for me, but yeah, I love this line already. I just hope boy dolls will be included again at some point. Thanks for your thoughts!
I think it is not just about the articulation... I think it's just the whole concept of what the basics were, and the dolls that are going out they're certainly not what they were in terms of quality with make up/hair/concept...
Did you read my mind? I mostly just want them to be made-to-move. My first were the 2 PUMA Barbies, and ever since then I have to have made to move. I buy 2 Holiday Barbies because I make one made to move; the greatest phrase in Barbie history.

The issue I think most older doll collector have is that these are just a rebrand of the Looks doll line, and not a successor to the Basics line, I love the Looks line for what it is/was, but I think just like myself, the expectations were slightly different, and I didn’t get that “new car smell” with these, while looking just like a next wave of the Looks, which there’s nothing wrong with that, but understandably it was false advertisement, the Looks were doing their thing just fine on their own, no need saying you’re bringing back something else, while eventually doing nothing that fits the mold it was suppose to.
I love them personally, I was worried they would have the model muse and I need the articulation for my dolls! I hope they come out with Basics Kens in the future!
From what I've seen and many other groups is that the dislike is generally based off the fact that they wanted back the model Muse body But not everybody is a fan of modern Muse We are an era where Head swapping has become a big thing And customization so I think they kind of focused more on that That's why they're so basic"
Removable hands and easy to remove heads are features of action figure dolls so what you are suggesting is very reasonable. However, action figures have limited skin tones and few standard ones so matching heads is just as awful as it is for Barbie collectors. I am happy to have more made to move bodies and I think it is brilliant to bring back some old sculpts. I don’t have a Claudette and I am delighted that she is re released. As for the clothes, I don’t care too much as I sew clothes for dolls. The fact that they put so little effort in the fashion means a lower cost, right?
This is a nice improvement for the collectors market. Easy to swap mtm bodies are what I wish we had since the beginning 😂 I love Barbie. I'm so glad mattel has improved the brand on the last 4 years at least, I collect mostly play line, I'm a huge "barbie extra" fan, love fashionistas for the mega diversity, all that good stuff😂❤ idk what people said about good new barbies. It's always those minoritys "og collectors" aka haters 😂 same thing happens with Bratz giving us opportunities to get repro dolls for myself is easier (living in a country that second hand market is not that good). people trashing them or new realeses, etc. If you want, just collect old dolls and sht the f up! Spend your money 💰 and that's it. And stop trolling 🤷🏽♂️
I like the new Basics. Like we said. Most of us redress them anyway. I'm just glad we still get mtm bodies, cause they're literally what brought me back to Barbie & started collecting. Cause I can PLAY with them with their awesome poses. There's many collector dolls with standard articulation or static. If people want them, get a Holiday doll or Fashionista, or many collector releases in between. Let us "Looks" fans have our mtm line 😊

I'm so excited about these Barbie Basics! I was in a crazy time of my life when the original BB came out, so I didn't get any at the time. Articulated bodies are a must! To me it seems like a continuation of the LOOKS line in black clothes. I like the idea of the redesigned neck pegs. It shows me that Mattel is listening to us. I feel the same way you do about the LOOKS line...it gave me EVERYTHING I ever wanted in a doll line. So excited about Inspiring men & Holiday Ken! Love your channel!❤
I like the new ones in the picture but I will let you know how I really feel when I get them home to Canada.🇨🇦 I too was devastated when they canceled the Looks dolls but now I have something to look forward to.
I'm torn about this because for me "Basics" was all about simple but pretty and well fitted clothes and except for the Karl doll the dresses are... lacking also as a collector who focuses more into Ken the fact that there's none in this wave it's beyond disappointing.
I'm in the process of switching most of my barbie doll characters over to 1/6 scale so as interesting as this is it won't affect me much but I will prolly get the dolls of color and rebody them on to Mizi doll body for better diversity
I don't like the made to move bodys, specifically because the joints are unsightly and I specifically hate the ankle joint, the way it buckles under the weight of the doll unless it's wearing shoes that support the ankle really annoys me. In a perfect world Barbie basics would have been released with the pivotal body which is an articulated version of the model Muse body, with a sorter less clunky looking version of the MTM joints, like the barbie look poolside chic doll from the 2010s had in the knees,

I would be very sad, but also surprised if they didn’t continue the made to move with varying body types, to me that’s been what sets Mattel and Barbie apart right now. Also hope we get a few male dolls and that they keep giving them rooted hair!
I like them, but a couple of the outfits look kinda frumpy. I have always loved the Karl sculpt. I love it in "any" skin tone. They could give us belts on some of those outfits.
My issue with the new Barbie Basics was not that they’re MTM (which I LOVE), but that the clothes were awful compared to the 2010’s BB dolls. “Universal fit,” which is what Mattel is calling them, just means that no one doll looks good. Kit’s baggy t-shirt dress…ugh. The Looks wave 1 and 2 B&W outfits were much better. Without new sculpts, just call this line “Looks Wave 5” and go! 😏
No male dolls 😭😭😭 but it’s a doll you can make him the perfect guy! This is the reason I collect Integrity because they have males, Every time Mattel has a 11-12” male I collect it if he has rooted hair and a nice sculpt.
I like the Barbie Looks like because it has a variety of every body type in each wave. Not just classic, petite, tall and curvy, but also different Kens. God, I adore the Barbie Looks Kens, but they are near impossible to find for a good price online (and Barbie Looks never made it to stores where I live). Barbie Basics 2.0 has pretty face sculpts and I like them, but I want Kens? I want guys??? Then again, a lot of Mattel things I see online never even made it to actual stores where I live in Europe, like MTM or even most of MH series 3. So maybe Mattel is just bad at running a company.

I’m curious about whether the numbers correspond with different face sculpts like in the original Basics line? I was underwhelmed by the new Basics dolls. I was collecting during the original Basics and Barbie Looks run and I think having the same designer has made some of dolls look repetitive to me. The Claudette looks nice, & I don’t have that sculpt yet, but her hair looks the same pink color that stopped me from buying Looks Tamika. All the dolls just looked too “familiar” and it was happening for me in the Looks line. Honestly, when Basics ended and Looks started, I was already sick of the blonde-ish hair he loves giving to Mbili. Greening is a great designer, and his dolls are beautiful, but I personally feel like I have better versions of the new Basics dolls from his past lines, so these aren’t as appealing. I also hope they focus on the original concept of the line, which was dressing up “basic” pieces with the fashion packs. The Looks line really needed fashion packs again, especially for those handsome but horribly dressed Kens. If we make it past the LBD wave are they possibly giving us the t-shirt & jeans wave too, without raising the price? I am interested in how they handle this new Basics line, it does have potential to be great.
Yes, Bill is talented, but I wish he was similarly creative in choosing facial sculpts as Carlyle is. Like, in the past, Bill used the diversity of facial sculpts, but I feel like he is currently using only Looks sculpts, Karl and Claudette. It would be refreshing to see him to use sculpts like Teen Skipper, original 90´s Nichelle, Mermaid, MOTM Nichelle, Daria, Marisa or Diva/Midge or Tango Barbie sculpt from original Basics line.
The original line used 17 sculpts total, I think, and only one was new. I don’t mind seeing the same face sculpts if they each look unique. But there are certain skin/hair/eye color combos that keep getting reused too frequently, even with different faces. In the original line he did a great job showing the versatility of the Goddess face (model 04) but with the Mackie (model 01) only one wasn’t blonde and only one didn’t have blue eyes. They were all lovely dolls but not all the faces were used in unique ways. Honestly Carlyle would do great with the basics line as long as the clothes stay simple.
I was super excited to see the new dolls coming out. When the Barbie basics came out, I wasn’t really into doll collecting at the time due to life. I could kick myself now! I wish I had scooped up as many as I possibly could at the time. However, seeing the new dolls that just came out I am so so so disappointed that that was not Ken not even one😭😭😭😭😭
I can’t believe we have all these fully articulate Barbie dolls playing all sorts of sports…. And the one Ken doll who’s a SOCCER PLAYER…. He’s got 5 POA!…. TERRIBLE!!!!
I don’t have a problem with the MTM bodies “I luv the articulation”: but for Basics , I was thinking they do “Pivotal body” ,, IDUNO that might have pushed the price point up, so would removal hands ,, who knows … Male dolls still don’t test well as far a sales “never did’, that’s the world we live in I doubt it’s about hate overall though, it’s over things .. More collectors need to buy the male dolls to make it more profitable for the companies to make them “capitalism” rules period . All toy companies produce less boys, except action/superheroes, hopefully the market will pick up over a period of time.
That part was moreso about people I saw getting upset about Mattel making so many new Ken dolls at all. Some people are just mad they’re making them in the first place believe it or not.
That's funny/interesting, people who don't like modern Barbie faces and prefer the older ones. I guess it could be nostalgia. I don't really miss my childhood Barbies, who all seemed to have versions of the same Caucasian face and heavy duty makeup. Modern-day faces are much more quirky, they can be serious-looking or rbf, and it's much more realistic.
3:34 I think it's funny that Mattel resisted introducing a body with "ugly joints" for many years and, now that they finally have one, you assume it's being included because they are "selling well" and not because there is an abundance of them in the production warehouses that they need to get rid of. I'm pretty sure I have no Made-to-Move body dolls, as the only one I did have finally sold on eBay in December. I sure did buy 4 ModelMuse 2024 Holiday dolls and the 65th Anniversary doll, though.

Just seems like Mattel have come up with an opportunity of charging us another premium price. As for Ken - why, oh, why is he such a slob? Always in T-shirts and shorts! Let’s have some Kens in suits (or at least smart trousers and shirts) who Barbie can feel proud to stand next to when she’s at a gala or on the red carpet.
I think the “issue” with the made to move bodies is how clunky and over sized the “hinges” are …. They could be made smaller so the appear more seamless…. Look at Matter WWE elite action figures… those are men on speedos and the double joints they do now don’t look jarring…..
Say what u want about Barbie, but coming from a Rainbow High lover, I wish RH could be more like Barbie. They were so good & satisfying adult collectors. But now they're only aimed at young children. Why can't they have both ? Barbie has many levels of dolls for every age from young children to high end collector. And even Mattel's Monster High has a few levels. Playline, mid level collector ( like Wednesday) & High end like Skullector. MGA needs to broaden their target audience IMO.
While i like the mtv body I was really hoping for a articulated model muse that body is rare mattel doesnt make it alot, so i think that wouldve been a good move because i dont really see anything similar to the OG basics besides Lea and the simple dresses, also can mattel stop making these cheap stretchy fabrics, i understand that they will fit more bodies but that fabric is cheap, another con for me is the faces I like the claudette, and the Kit but why another Heidi she has been used alot now . lea has been used alot with the lunar dolls and WHY another Karl im done with that face its the same face up as the tooth fairy just a waste.

I was devastated when I heard that the look line was discontinued, only today I started seeing the Barbie Basic line and was so happy. Kit looks gorgeous. As long as we have new MTM doll available I'm happy. Great

as much as i love the barbie looks, a lot of them now become way too expensive for what they are. yes they look absolutely amazing but the quality control is never trustworthy enough for me to buy them online. resellers (99% being scalpers) will milk the hell out of this line. i always say im too behind with the releases for each wave, and due to my living situation especially back in the days, i never get to end up completing the collection. it’s a little sad, but if all of the barbie looks end up being reproduced just one last time, maybe there’s a chance of me filling in the (very huge) collection gap…..
Thanks for posting this. I was very glum when I head they were discontinuing the Looks dolls, but this new line looks pretty great. Wish that there was a Ken in the group, but maybe later. Would love some new Ken sculpts, but would be happy with new versions of existing sculpts. Intrigued about the holiday Ken and the Inspiring Ken dolls. Fingers crossed for more dolls in this line later in the year, too.

BTW tall/curvy mtm Barbies are a match for omg lol shoes 👀 90% of my Barbie shoes are from that series (you can buy them separately from resellers and/or other collectors) (also rainbow high clothes fit barbies sometimes and RH shoes (and omg lol clothes) fit the new monster high dolls. I bought most of these separately from the dolls or bought the doll, took the clothes and shoes and sold the doll nude (other collectors and just people with young kids that break their dolls often buy those)
I think you've got some great ideas. a numbering system of skin tones would be cool. also separated heads. I didn't know Barbie looks were discontinued! But glad to hear there is a replacement. I remember when the updated Barbie face came out in the TNT dolls. I thought that was the prettiest doll ever, and loved the rooted eyelashes!
I remember the TNT trade-in. My first Barbie was a brunette swirl but I didn't like her hair and wanted a blonde bubble cut like my cousin had. So I cut off all her hair and my mom had to buy some off-brand wigs for her. I should have had a Fashion Queen, LOL! I traded in my ungently loved swirl for a blonde TNT. I still think the TNT is the most beautiful face ever but I definitely love most of the contemporary faces, too!
I am so relieved they look to be blending the two lines. Paying collector prices for playline posability never made sense to me. I am both interested and concerned about this head swap system. Somehow, I feel like there has to be a catch with it. Also bummed there is no Ken in this first wave but, am hopeful that Mattel does something slick, like to keep both names, Signature Looks becomes the name for the Kens and Basics remains for the Barbies. A holiday Ken would be fantastic!

I used to just leave dolls in the box. But with the Looks and dolls i have thrifted i have enjoyed changing up their outfit and hair. The Made to Move hand are a pain in the neck to put thru long sleave shirts. They just need to have the fingers close together or just make the hands removable.
I hate the m2m hands - they are not a patch on the Style hands. The Style hands were far more expressive (something like the Integrity hands)
Cut off the fingers of a pair of rubber gloves then put a rubber finger over each hand before you put on the long sleeved clothes. This helps a lot.
The Looks line is my fav, and this Basics looks promising! I’ll most likely get the Kit and Claudette ones. Wish the outfits were …more. Are they all dressed in dresses? Because separates would be more appealing, I think.

In Japanese doll collecting, almost all the Licca and Jenny dolls on collector level come in undergarments to encourage people to open and restyle and I love that Barbie does something similar
Im disappointed because the made to move bodies look pedestrian in those cheap one size fits all outfits. A model muse body with articulation would have elevated even the most basic of t-shirt dresses. If they plan on adding size specific fashion packs then I can get behind it, but right now Mattel only has 3 or 4 decent fashion packs for the original body and none for the others. Why make basic dolls meant to strip down and dress up in new fashions when you aren’t going to provide said fashions? I’m just over it.

Yes, this, atleast get rid of that playline sculpted underwear, use the collector hands, and not those loafs of bread that the MTM have, and like BGBF said, posed hand sets would really make a huge difference.
I love these new Basics, and need all of them. I’m hoping we will see a male doll or two in the next wave. And we at least need accessory packs. The tall and curvy girls need shoes, and the muscular Ken body needs shoes.

Yes, Mattel, give us hand packs!!! I do swap the hands out with my Integrity and AliExpress hands, but I'm tired of fiddling with them to make them fit.
Loved Barbie looks too and they introduced some beautiful new face sculpts and male dolls that I really appreciate and like. I also have most of the old Barbie Basics series and what about loved Barbie Basics is the variety of old face sculpt in skin tones, hair colors that we didn't see often at that time. This new Barbie Basics line I like but also feel bit underwhelmed compared to the Barbie looks but for the purpose of a basic line with mtm bodies for customizing it still works for me. Would have been nice (and smart) if they included one face 'older' sculpt, especially now we've seen the response to the Steffie rare find doll. I like the Karl face but it is a face sculpt that is already used a lot so that is probably the one I would have replaced with an older sculpt. But they are pretty and look good to me. Probably will get 2 of them maybe 3.

The Barbie Looks 2021 to 2024 will go down in history as Mattel's very best doll line. They're my favorite and I'm glad I got several of each. My only complaint is or was that Bill Greening made only one version of doll #3, Kit, Asian petite (wave 1), and doll #12, Freda, Latin curvy (wave 2.0). I would've loved a second version of these two dolls.
However, he made three (3) versions of doll #4, Victoria tall (wave 1, wave 3, & wave 4); Doll #1 Lena, Latin, (wave 1, wave 3, & wave 4), and doll #7, Andra (wave 2, wave 3, & wave 4). Would I be the only one with this perspective, or does anyone else have a similar point of view? Thank you and love, joy, happiness, and peace to everybody in the doll community.
My only gripes with swapping Barbie looks for basics, is the colorful clothes and also no more kens. I will really miss the colorful pieces you can mix and match with the other dolls. That being said, I will be buying quite a few of these dolls if they aren't super expensive.

This honestly is about was I was expecting, but I thought they would be using more of the old molds. However, 5 dolls is not a big representation of all the dolls they could make if this goes on for several waves. I am very happy to see Lea and Claudette, and I would love to see Mbili make a return. I would like to see a Ken, but I am the type of collector who is good with just a couple of “better-than-playline” Kens a year, so if they come in different lines, I’m fine with that. I love the addition of jewelry.

Oh YES! I knew you were going to mention removable hands! C’mon, Mattel - you’ve been manufacturing Barbie since 1959! I’ve been collecting Barbie since 1961. You can’t figure out an economical way to make removable hands? Today’s collector will definitely take the doll out of the box and would like to create their own look for the doll, which many times includes dressing her in clothing with long sleeves. IF I decide to purchase a Barbie, I will also purchase a body for this Barbie that’s made by Integrity Toys, just because it’s so easy to remove the hands. OK my rant is done. Or the ones that do, I don't like the face ups. I really should've got the blonde Looks Ken, but I didn't. Female dolls are my priority. I do also have the Extra Fly Ken, hes cool. But give me a good male doll & I'm here for it. ROOTED hair, please ! We have plenty of molded hair Kens.

Definitely bummed that the Looks line is discontinued. I only got back into Barbie about six months ago and would have liked to be there when the next wave was released. I prefer the MTM body but I appreciate the Model Muse. If I ran Mattel 😂 I would have kept both lines. The Basics would be on the Model Muse and Music Muse bodies with sophisticated versions of play line dolls like June, Crystal, Neysa, Daya, Mbili, and Kim. The Looks would be collector edition faces on MTM bodies. But no one asked me! 😂 I'm psyched to see the Kim face return. Definitely my favorite of the bunch. It's nice to see Claudette, Karl, and Heide again, and I love the Lea face, so no complaints about the face sculpts. The outfits are rather meh, but I get what Mattel is trying to do. I'm cautiously optimistic that there will eventually be Ken dolls in the line, maybe later this year. They have so many handsome Ken sculpts, and they could easily go back to the original Basics sculpts: Harley 2 and New Tango, like they reused the Basics 17 face on the newest Black (Buff) Looks doll. The Julio sculpt! Extra Fly Ken! I'm sad that so many doll collectors (not just Barbie people) dislike male dolls. I love male dolls! From the original Allan (my favorite) to crew-cut Ken to New, Good-Lookin' Ken, Wedding Day Alan with his molded MULLET to Harley 2 Ken, Jon, Sean, Cam, Brandon, and Basics 17, I love them!! I can't forget to add my favorite non-Mattel male doll, Tonner's Rufus Rutter, who looks a bit like a goofy nerd but has a sweetness and charm all his own. (The absence of him in the new Ellowyne Wilde line is reason enough to kill my interest in those dolls--so I'm back to Barbie and Ken! Dang. This is like a book now. TLDR: I'm with you in being pleased with the new Basics except for the so-so clothes, I love MTM bodies, and I hope, hope, HOPE that there will eventually be Basics MTM Kens. Maybe the next wave will be DENIM! Love your videos!

I’m excited to have the line back. The model muse fans could do body swapping of their own with the new neck feature. It’s not like there aren’t a ton of us who swap bodies who would be willing to sell them model muse bodies, likely at a reasonable price. So I fully don’t get the complaints about the body. That’s what we’ve been doing for ages, and I don’t get how it’s any different now that it’s them.
I personally love them. I suppose I was expecting more a "reboot" of the Basics Dolls sculpts, with a modern screening, but I'm still fine with the dolls they created. And, unfortunately for my wallet, I will buy them all 😅 I agree with you, Kit and Claudette eat it up!

I was more upset about the discontinuation of the Looks because of how I figured the “Hero” M2M body would also go by the wayside. I ooak superhero dolls so that body was a freaking godsend, and I didn’t have to drop $50+ to pick up a Superman/Batman doll just for the body (not to mention lack of other ethnicities).

The buff body Ken’s have sold extremely well so I doubt Mattel won’t use it anymore. They could use it on some of the new athlete Inspiring Men dolls, who knows?
I think some people just prefer female dolls because they’re more vass and have more interesting fashion compared to the males

I think it is not just about the articulation... I think it's just the whole concept of what the basics were, and the dolls that are going out they're certainly not what they were in terms of quality with make up/hair/concept...

The issue I think most older doll collector have is that these are just a rebrand of the Looks doll line, and not a successor to the Basics line, I love the Looks line for what it is/was, but I think just like myself, the expectations were slightly different, and I didn’t get that “new car smell” with these, while looking just like a next wave of the Looks, which there’s nothing wrong with that, but understandably it was false advertisement, the Looks were doing their thing just fine on their own, no need saying you’re bringing back something else, while eventually doing nothing that fits the mold it was suppose to.
I love them personally, I was worried they would have the model muse and I need the articulation for my dolls! I hope they come out with Basics Kens in the future!
From what I've seen and many other groups is that the dislike is generally based off the fact that they wanted back the model Muse body But not everybody is a fan of modern Muse We are an era where Head swapping has become a big thing And customization so I think they kind of focused more on that That's why they're so basic"
Removable hands and easy to remove heads are features of action figure dolls so what you are suggesting is very reasonable. However, action figures have limited skin tones and few standard ones so matching heads is just as awful as it is for Barbie collectors. I am happy to have more made to move bodies and I think it is brilliant to bring back some old sculpts. I don’t have a Claudette and I am delighted that she is re released. As for the clothes, I don’t care too much as I sew clothes for dolls. The fact that they put so little effort in the fashion means a lower cost, right?
This is a nice improvement for the collectors market. Easy to swap mtm bodies are what I wish we had since the beginning 😂 I love Barbie. I'm so glad mattel has improved the brand on the last 4 years at least, I collect mostly play line, I'm a huge "barbie extra" fan, love fashionistas for the mega diversity, all that good stuff😂❤ idk what people said about good new barbies. It's always those minoritys "og collectors" aka haters 😂 same thing happens with Bratz giving us opportunities to get repro dolls for myself is easier (living in a country that second hand market is not that good). people trashing them or new realeses, etc. If you want, just collect old dolls and sht the f up! Spend your money 💰 and that's it. And stop trolling 🤷🏽♂️

I like the new Basics. Like we said. Most of us redress them anyway. I'm just glad we still get mtm bodies, cause they're literally what brought me back to Barbie & started collecting. Cause I can PLAY with them with their awesome poses. There's many collector dolls with standard articulation or static. If people want them, get a Holiday doll or Fashionista, or many collector releases in between. Let us "Looks" fans have our mtm line 😊

I'm so excited about these Barbie Basics! I was in a crazy time of my life when the original BB came out, so I didn't get any at the time. Articulated bodies are a must! To me it seems like a continuation of the LOOKS line in black clothes. I like the idea of the redesigned neck pegs. It shows me that Mattel is listening to us. I feel the same way you do about the LOOKS line...it gave me EVERYTHING I ever wanted in a doll line. So excited about Inspiring men & Holiday Ken! Love your channel!❤
I like the new ones in the picture but I will let you know how I really feel when I get them home to Canada.🇨🇦 I too was devastated when they canceled the Looks dolls but now I have something to look forward to.
I'm torn about this because for me "Basics" was all about simple but pretty and well fitted clothes and except for the Karl doll the dresses are... lacking also as a collector who focuses more into Ken the fact that there's none in this wave it's beyond disappointing.
I'm in the process of switching most of my barbie doll characters over to 1/6 scale so as interesting as this is it won't affect me much but I will prolly get the dolls of color and rebody them on to Mizi doll body for better diversity

I don't like the made to move bodys, specifically because the joints are unsightly and I specifically hate the ankle joint, the way it buckles under the weight of the doll unless it's wearing shoes that support the ankle really annoys me. In a perfect world Barbie basics would have been released with the pivotal body which is an articulated version of the model Muse body, with a sorter less clunky looking version of the MTM joints, like the barbie look poolside chic doll from the 2010s had in the knees,

I would be very sad, but also surprised if they didn’t continue the made to move with varying body types, to me that’s been what sets Mattel and Barbie apart right now. Also hope we get a few male dolls and that they keep giving them rooted hair!
I like them, but a couple of the outfits look kinda frumpy. I have always loved the Karl sculpt. I love it in "any" skin tone. They could give us belts on some of those outfits.
My issue with the new Barbie Basics was not that they’re MTM (which I LOVE), but that the clothes were awful compared to the 2010’s BB dolls. “Universal fit,” which is what Mattel is calling them, just means that no one doll looks good. Kit’s baggy t-shirt dress…ugh. The Looks wave 1 and 2 B&W outfits were much better. Without new sculpts, just call this line “Looks Wave 5” and go! 😏

No male dolls 😭😭😭 but it’s a doll you can make him the perfect guy! This is the reason I collect Integrity because they have males, Every time Mattel has a 11-12” male I collect it if he has rooted hair and a nice sculpt.
I like the Barbie Looks like because it has a variety of every body type in each wave. Not just classic, petite, tall and curvy, but also different Kens.
God, I adore the Barbie Looks Kens, but they are near impossible to find for a good price online (and Barbie Looks never made it to stores where I live).
Barbie Basics 2.0 has pretty face sculpts and I like them, but I want Kens? I want guys???
Then again, a lot of Mattel things I see online never even made it to actual stores where I live in Europe, like MTM or even most of MH series 3. So maybe Mattel is just bad at running a company.

I was underwhelmed by the new Basics dolls. I was collecting during the original Basics and Barbie Looks run and I think having the same designer has made some of dolls look repetitive to me. The Claudette looks nice, & I don’t have that sculpt yet, but her hair looks the same pink color that stopped me from buying Looks Tamika. All the dolls just looked too “familiar” and it was happening for me in the Looks line. Honestly, when Basics ended and Looks started, I was already sick of the blonde-ish hair he loves giving to Mbili.
Greening is a great designer, and his dolls are beautiful, but I personally feel like I have better versions of the new Basics dolls from his past lines, so these aren’t as appealing.
I also hope they focus on the original concept of the line, which was dressing up “basic” pieces with the fashion packs. The Looks line really needed fashion packs again, especially for those handsome but horribly dressed Kens. If we make it past the LBD wave are they possibly giving us the t-shirt & jeans wave too, without raising the price? I am interested in how they handle this new Basics line, it does have potential to be great.
Yes, Bill is talented, but I wish he was similarly creative in choosing facial sculpts as Carlyle is. Like, in the past, Bill used the diversity of facial sculpts, but I feel like he is currently using only Looks sculpts, Karl and Claudette. It would be refreshing to see him to use sculpts like Teen Skipper, original 90´s Nichelle, Mermaid, MOTM Nichelle, Daria, Marisa or Diva/Midge or Tango Barbie sculpt from original Basics line.
The original line used 17 sculpts total, I think, and only one was new. I don’t mind seeing the same face sculpts if they each look unique. But there are certain skin/hair/eye color combos that keep getting reused too frequently, even with different faces.
In the original line he did a great job showing the versatility of the Goddess face (model 04) but with the Mackie (model 01) only one wasn’t blonde and only one didn’t have blue eyes. They were all lovely dolls but not all the faces were used in unique ways. Honestly Carlyle would do great with the basics line as long as the clothes stay simple.

I don’t have a problem with the MTM bodies “I luv the articulation”: but for Basics , I was thinking they do “Pivotal body” ,, IDUNO that might have pushed the price point up, so would removal hands ,, who knows … Male dolls still don’t test well as far a sales “never did’, that’s the world we live in I doubt it’s about hate overall though, it’s over things .. More collectors need to buy the male dolls to make it more profitable for the companies to make them “capitalism” rules period . All toy companies produce less boys, except action/superheroes, hopefully the market will pick up over a period of time.
That part was moreso about people I saw getting upset about Mattel making so many new Ken dolls at all. Some people are just mad they’re making them in the first place believe it or not.
I like collecting from different eras. It's so borung collecting from one era. Like i couldn't have all Superstar Barbies.
That's funny/interesting, people who don't like modern Barbie faces and prefer the older ones. I guess it could be nostalgia. I don't really miss my childhood Barbies, who all seemed to have versions of the same Caucasian face and heavy duty makeup. Modern-day faces are much more quirky, they can be serious-looking or rbf, and it's much more realistic.
3:34 I think it's funny that Mattel resisted introducing a body with "ugly joints" for many years and, now that they finally have one, you assume it's being included because they are "selling well" and not because there is an abundance of them in the production warehouses that they need to get rid of. I'm pretty sure I have no Made-to-Move body dolls, as the only one I did have finally sold on eBay in December. I sure did buy 4 ModelMuse 2024 Holiday dolls and the 65th Anniversary doll, though.

Barbie looks has not been the same since they released all the color blocking stuff. I haven’t bought any of the last two waves. Not even interested.
I think the “issue” with the made to move bodies is how clunky and over sized the “hinges” are …. They could be made smaller so the appear more seamless…. Look at Matter WWE elite action figures… those are men on speedos and the double joints they do now don’t look jarring…..

Say what u want about Barbie, but coming from a Rainbow High lover, I wish RH could be more like Barbie. They were so good & satisfying adult collectors. But now they're only aimed at young children. Why can't they have both ? Barbie has many levels of dolls for every age from young children to high end collector. And even Mattel's Monster High has a few levels. Playline, mid level collector ( like Wednesday) & High end like Skullector. MGA needs to broaden their target audience IMO.
While i like the mtv body I was really hoping for a articulated model muse that body is rare mattel doesnt make it alot, so i think that wouldve been a good move because i dont really see anything similar to the OG basics besides Lea and the simple dresses, also can mattel stop making these cheap stretchy fabrics, i understand that they will fit more bodies but that fabric is cheap, another con for me is the faces I like the claudette, and the Kit but why another Heidi she has been used alot now . lea has been used alot with the lunar dolls and WHY another Karl im done with that face its the same face up as the tooth fairy just a waste.
I honestly would’ve traded Karl for another sculpt but some people like her.
