I have been in the factory 2 and a half years ago celebrated my 50th birthday.Karl canceled a trip to USA since I was coming. He treated me like a king, lunch, dinner 3 days in a row and I made a birch prototype snare and took it home.Paid peanuts for it.Such a nice, humble man.Unforgettable experience that I will remember as long as I live the visit to the Sonor factory and Karl off course!
WoW!!! Great news for Sweetwater and Sonor! Looking forward to Nick providing an in depth introduction to the various current Sonor offerings, and they all sound great in their own way!!! Good luck Sweetwater, and thank you Nick for the great interview. Blessings!!!
I love my custom SQ2, beech shells with thicknesses increasing as the drum sizes increase. Silver sparkle hand applied lacquer finish and inner veneers in Scandinavian birch. Very warm and punchy sound. Videos on my channel don't do it justice but man the kit is going to be a heirloom. Love SONOR!
Played drums for over 35 years had loads of kits dw collectors, yamaha 9000rc,tama starclassic, pearl masters gretsch Brooklyn, Premiers just bought a sonor drum kit for the first time (I'm in my 50s now ) ....and I can honestly say that the Sonor kit is the best I've ever had as in sound ...
I had a Sonor 3001 double bass kit bought new from sluggish music in Tacoma back in 1991. The snare it came with never was much but the rest of the kit was the best sounding kit if tuned correctly. I liked also I could change heads with a screwdriver or a quarter. Sonor drums are always really expensive. Especially vintage snares and jazz kits. But nicko from Iron Maiden sold more Sonor than any other metal drummer. Jack dejohnette for jazz
Exactly but shipping from Germany could be absolutely killer and make it not worth it for any kit that isn’t terribly expensive, but if that isn’t the case I’d really wish they got the cheaper Sonor’s I’m at Sweetwater
SnickSound How odd, then it must not be shipping. Even if the cheaper kits do come from China I think it’s really the engineering of the kit and the execution of it in the factory that make the difference.
iam owner of the updated martini aq2 kit ....this is for sonor...... the truth: the snare bed is not good......the plastic stripes to fix the snare wire slips thrue the holder !! dont wonder if you have problems with the wire tension. all lugs of the drum need massiv grease (oil) is this price range ... disapointing. one screw turning with fingers ..the next bolt is clamping. the heads doesnt resonate ..the bater heads...... 750,- € kit in europe ;-( so if you wont to play silent-not to loud the heads doesent work...china here china there. for little help: 8" and 13" toms change the resonant heat to the top and tune the fat bater heads ,that works now as resonant head a little lower than normal. the resonat heads on top will open the kit.......iam german and iam very disapointed about sonors little kit. greetings thomas.........oh i forgot the problem with the bassdrum hoop on the batter side....the kickdrum pedal is to fare from the head away the angle of the pedal beater is much to big........because the woodhoops in conection with the bassdrum riser is touching the chain of the basspedal...... need to cut out the hoop. than you get closer with the pedal.
That can't be! They are the best drums in the world and the quality is unmatched! German engineering, yada, yada, yada..... Just goes to show this brand is like all others. Top quality and high prices where the craftsmanship is well controlled, mediocre at the bottom of the product lines. Basic economics apply to German brands too, as does physics when it comes to their 'sound'.
@@larrytate1657 I don't know about that....I see a lot of machinery being used at every stage of the build process in other videos. These are no more "hand made" than any other drums produced in high numbers. As far as I know, they don't use robots in the Taiwanese and Chinese plants. The difference is the cost of labor, and the passion/pride each particular employee has in what they're doing.

Finally!!! So DW, Gretsch, Ludwig & Tama ... now we have a game. Can't wait to see Nick testing some Sonor kits.

Great interview. Sonor make amazing drums.

It's about time! I've played Sonor for three or four years now and had to buy my kit elsewhere.
So happy! Gotta start saving to get a matching snare for my pro lite kit! Squeeee!
SONOR PLEASE BRING BACK THE ( HI·LITE SERIES ) OR SOMETHING LIKE IT AS BEAST OF A DRUMSET THOSE WERE AMAZING INSTRUMENTS
How do you make this video without mentioning Gavin Harrison....
Or Nicko?

Nick, I see Sweetwater isn't carrying any of Sonor's mid price kits, why not? Most of us can't afford $2500+ dollar kits, what about us

Sweet!!
Nick sounds like he's saying SONAR (like the DAW) instead of SONOR.

Why sold to KHS? It's so, so disappointing... SONOR...
Just for distributing mainly but all the high end kits are still hand made in Germany.

Next time ask him why they refuse to market their products in the US
