A brilliantly concise but detailed and well researched program. You nailed it ...... The Arrowcroft corporation had a Thames barge called the Edith May however they had no crew so they asked the Wincham Preservation Society to run the Barge. Wincham was a Weaver packet one of five 300 gross tonne motor vessels running from the ICI plant at Northwich to Liverpool. The barge was a Gin palace which we would take out whilst Arrowcroft entertained. Wincham was the first vessel to pass through into the Canning half tide dock and was first back into Albert Dock when we had a Concert organ on deck playing Monty Python theme. Sadly Wincham is no more due to some shiny trousered individual wanting to disband the museum volunteers and sent the old girl to scrap. I was the Chief Eng. Her sister ship m.v. Cuddington is in the Ellesmere port museum. We were also asked to take on the Daniel Adamson but that was too much, fortunately she has been saved back on the MSC. Best.

Leeds has always been different...there were many types of back to back, even given your excellent summary of the 2 structural types. I was raised in one such ,and because they differed albeit minimally, they had a different social status and sales value. It was I always thought ,and still do,a well run city with the several departments run by people who really cared and weren't career politicians

Eldon Grove was used as a film set in the TV adaptation of War of the Worlds a few years back. It stood in for a devastated turn-of-the-century suburb. There are photos of it on the Echo site. It would be a crime to let such characterful buildings be demolished., but the latest Google satellite imagery shows that the roofs are now disappearing too.

Also the Union Cold Storage building in Williamson Square. Formerly the Theatre Royal. It's now the LFC shop. It was demolished to make way for a new road access to Williamson Sq...which was then promptly pedestrianised.

I remember working the Everton area for a cigarette company ( the used to give us maps of city areas so we could call on the retailers in the area) when I got to Everton it was completely demolished apart from a few tower blocks. Even in the late 60's when I walked to Goodison park from Lime street there hardly any houses left after the demolition had finished.
