  • Hey folks,
in this video I am unboxing and reviewing my new metallurgical microscope which I bought via Ebay in July 2022.
As explained in my previous microscope videos, my primary interest is to investigate silicon die structures of chips, integrated circuits and central processing units.
With my light microscope from BNISE I was still limited by the light intensity and the stage when looking at large silicon dies, especially for stitching purposes.
Hence, it was time to upgrade my system and it soon became clear that I need a metallurgical microscope with an own light source. As I wanted a binocular set-up with the ability to have a camera connected in parallel, I went for a trinocular version from Radical Scientific Equipment with a polarizing stage. The microscope model is RMM-55T which was advertised at that time as a 1200x microscope for 375€. Be aware that as it is imported from India, you need to count with another 80€ import duty.
The microscope came along with 4 objectives of 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x and two sets of oculars of 10x and 20x (wide field). With these, it was a mystery how 1200x magnification should be achieved.
Actually, the microscope packing did not have the 20x oculars but only the 15x versions. Although I contacted the seller several times asking for a solution, the right oculars were never sent, nor was an explanation given on how to achieve 1200x magnification, so I was stuck at max. 600x.
Apart from this low performance in customer service, I can fully recommend the microscope itself as it is very robust, fully functional, and serving my purpose very well (sofar). Just check out all my microscopy videos and shorts of the last 8 months!
I had great fun using this microscope!
