Im sorry guys but i cant call them ruby and saphire for some reason brendan and may sound better im new to the manga scene and i know ruby and saphire are the cannon names but gosh i just cant get it in my mind
Finally someone pays credit to adventures manga that doesn't consist out of the first three books. My opinion to this romance is that Hidenori Kusaka did an awesome build up and backround story with a love of details taken by the games and sometimes the anime I could literally cry. Also I hope @Charusharu you will read the hole manga if you haven't already and tell about your opinion. Thank you very much.
I get why people like the earlier Pokemon special because that is definitely at its peak, personally I count at least most of the RS arc to be at the same level I just didn't like Deus ex celebi at the end, it's severely diminished the last half of the story retroactively which was unfortunate. But everything leading up to that point was fantastic sometimes I wonder if maybe since they knew they were already planning to write themselves into a corner did they just go crazy with the plot and that's why it ended up so fantastic. Because the early to mid part of Ruby and Sapphire is my favorite part of the entire series as a whole the other generation arcs before it just left me feeling more satisfied at the end

@@sendhelpimslippery it doesn't actually matter if it was because they wrote themselves into a corner or if they planted ahead like I said I think that a lot of the crazy things they did they did because they knew they wouldn't have to find a way out of it from a writing perspective I mean. It still just was not a good plot device, and also the salamence story was a sloppy end to the two best parts of the series being Ruby and sapphires development. I didn't really appreciate the shared history backstory as an explanation for their personalities, it almost cheapened it to me. Especially Ruby whose relationship with his father was fantastic, I think it works better just being about their relationship and letting Sapphire and Ruby's relationship be something that developed at the beginning of the series not before.
I must give the credit for creating Rubi as the Pokemon battle prodigy (his own father stated that he was much more talented than him), but he refuses this gift in pursuit of another dream instead. The love story of ruby and sapphire is the best in the entire franchise.

Honestly, this arc, Ruby and Sapphire's relationship was my absolute favorite when I read the manga in my childhood, and it's still a relationship that I adore to this day. There honestly was a lot of backlash I remember with the ORAS manga too, but idk, I found myself to really enjoy it. Mainly because it brought back Sapphire's agency - this time she wasn't locked up in an air car, she was there until the end, and also rightfully called out Ruby on his misguided attempts to protect her, when instead it just sabotaged their relationship due to all the secrets he kept from her instead. Idk, I just really like them, together and seperately. The main RS arc is also the only pokespe arc that I'll find myself rereading once every year or so, and it's really nice to see other people who appreciate them too.
I think to justify ruby, he might have locked her up in the air car the first time so that she won't come with him and he can show her he can take care of the situation alone, but now that he had already showed her , he decided it was enough so that's why in the ORAS arc, he wanted her to come with him to space.
RS was when i really felt how the Manga just hit different than any other Pokemon media. People like to point out how dark the manga is compared to the show, but their examples are always misguided, because RS is probably the darkest of all of them, with all the implied child abuse, incredibly high stakes and just everyone dying meaningless deaths.
personally i really love black and white's relationship in the black and white saga of pokemon adventures, with it being my favorite chapter of the manga. i was so glad to see the story finally wrap up last year after being on a *long* indefinite hiatus lol. i hope to eventually do a video about it someday. but that's not to say i don't like the ruby and sapphire arc of pokemon adventures. i believe it was written incredibly well, and i really like their dynamic too. i have to reread that arc someday!
While majority think Ruby/Sapphire were peak romance (don't blame them, especially with their development), my tastiest cup of tea is definitely Black and White. Their development of debt to mutual respect and learning from each other as they grow, it was *chef's kiss*. I crave so much of their content! And I think the BW arc is one of the best arcs to this date, and honestly peak writing that I believe future arcs don't compare. I think B2W2 could have been so much more if it weren't for hiatus hell and it just went flop at the end. :/ Compared to the predecessors, Rakutsu and Faitsu really weren't strong characters.
Yeah, at the end of the Delta Episode, you go on a date with Brendan/May at the Mossdeep Space Center to watch the meteor shower. They drop the hint that they REALLY like you and how special the moment is
I think it's really cute what the adventure series does with these two characters. I just wish the games could be as story driven as this. Sure in ORAS they touched on it a little but I still feel like they should touch on it a little bit more
This video also helps me understand that the last time you battle May/Brendan in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the last cutscene kinda of hinted this manga. It may also explain why Shauna was so friendly towards you in Pokemon X and Y.
This must be the most wholesome romance in all of Pokemon. I honestly think that Ruby and Sapphire's lovestory is the most compelling and heartwarming one out of any manga or anime I have read or watched. I actually like black and white’s romance more, I like how it all started as a business and how black’s disappearance just made their love stronger until his return and black and white 2 but ruby and sapphire is still a great story.
I always saw those two a genderbent version of themselves. They look too similar to me and it feels like it's twins in love. I really thought those two are the same person but just set in another universe.
Your recapping of manga events is really great and just makes me want to read these stories more. They seem so rich and interesting and while I love the anime to bits and don't want to outright insult it like most when talking about the manga, I can concede in the act that the manga has many strengths the anime doesn't. Ruby and Sapphire seem like very compelling characters that really do my home region of Hoenn justice.
Ruby is my all time favorite character in the special/adventures manga Unlike the anime, the manga has great plot and most important of all: great character development His character growth that led to his Feebas' evolution into Milotic stood out to me the most. And that's just his own individual character development. The manga has so much great character chemistry it's really awesome.
I think what I love most about this video is how it barely scratches the surface of what makes these two and their relationship so amazing. It boggles my mind that I had to buy English versions from Singapore just to read these chapters up until recently. I don't know why they skipped over dubbing one of, if not the, best arcs in this masterpiece of Pokémon storytelling. And the icing on the cake of this couple? They age. Adventures protagonists age. Which means maybe someday, we actually will get to see them tie the knot. Fingers crossed, and RubyxSapphire forever.

Its just a wonderful addition to a fantastic story arc that is also my favorite in the entire manga. 3. It means Courtney is singel and i call dibs on her😝 Ps, Black and White is pretty sweet though.
I’m so happy that this video popped into my feed cuz I remember reading Vol 15 and 16 when I was a kid. it introduced me to not only the concept of role reversal but also the concept of having an unlikeable protagonist which I’m pretty sure broke my narratively black and white world view to see more complex characters and that subversion of traditional gender roles is normal and actually pretty cool (like Ruby being the one into the contest shows and also Sapphire being the one to confess their love to Ruby) Thank you so much for making this video :)
You explained this so well, I don't know what the manga is about since I've never read it, but the way you explained how it was seen in your prespective was enough for me to see what's going on, as a fellow pokemon nerd.
As a player who started playing Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - I honestly felt lacking when I interact with May, like I feel like something missing. So as I played ORAS and saw hints of what their relationship would be in the near future, especially after you beat Steven, warms my heart as if one of my wishes when I still played the first Gen 3 games back in Highschool, wanted. That slight tinge of Romance.
Ruby and Saph are amazing. They were my second arc of the manga (I read DPP first) and they single-handedly changed my opinion on shipping. I was very against the idea as a kid, because I was a kid and romance was weird, but Ruby and Sapphire were to good for me to ignore. And I’m glad because without the I probably wouldn’t have picked up on my second favorite ship: GoldxChrystal
I'm still personally not good with that cuz then it makes for a pathetic protagonist and especially one that's based on the G.O.A.T but hey, that's ur opinion.
Finally someone who gives more credit about the manga. It's better than the anime in every way. Instead of sticking to one protagonist we have a variety just like in the games which makes the stories more fresh. It does a way better job in fleshing out the game characters. And ngl Ruby and Sapphire's ship is more compelling than all of Ash's ships combined. The only reason it didn't have an anime yet is because the manga is pretty dark and because of the stereotype of Pokemon being a kids media it can't make it into television which is bull as Pokemon has a large fanbase ranging from kids to adults. They can keep the original anime for the kids while the manga adaptation for the older fans and I believe that could satisfy a lot of fans.
i wouldnt say it is better in every way, as there are a few things i believe the anime does better, i agree with everything else, still wish we would got a anime adaptation of it
I have never read the Pokémon manga, so I am not sure if it would be “better” for me to start at the beginning or not… but since the generation three games were such a big part of my childhood (along with generation two), this sounds so tempting 😍❤️
If you want to start there it’s fine - a few character cameos and bits of backstory brought in from other series won’t make sense but you can go back and read the older stuff after ^^

DEFINETLY best love story in Pokemon, with the only one that could compete being the player character and partner in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky, but of course it's never stated that their relationship is more than friendship (though that's my headcannon and I will stand by it!). It's also one of my favorite ships ever, being in the top 5 (hard to say which spot, the numbers from 2 to 5 keep changing depending on which franchise I am more into at the moment)^^
i read the RBY/RSE manga over a decade ago and even just hearing it recounted brings me so much joy to know the word is still being spread of how amazing it is. i still collect adventures series and it's one of my most treasured possessions. goodness me, i think i need a reread.

Tbh Pokemon Adventures Manga has better story telling than the anime. I finished reading Red Blue Green, Yellow, Ruby Sapphire, Black n White, XY and i cannot tell how amazing are these
11 years old me would be screaming if she saw this video. This was my first arc in Pokémon adventures and I loved every second of it, especially Ruby and Sapphire’s relationship! I’m currently waiting for ORAS to release in my country so I can devour them! I recently got into Pokémon adventures again and I realised that this manga quite forged the person I am now, especially this romance!

finally, a youtuber who talks PokeSpe more in detail :) I personally like the Ruby-Sapphire since not only did I started reading and collecting manga with them, but they're just so well nade for each other (history, chemistry, and appearance wise). Either Red and Yellow, or Gold and Crys comes a second though.
Nah nah Red is definitely compatible with blue (female) because yellow looks more younger than red when compared to blue (female) and if you played FRLG then you'll know there's a protagonist that's based off of blue (female) and the games protagonist ships are the best ships.
Somehow even in game, I imagine they also become closer than just friends, I mean, your true rival in RSE is Wally. He is the one you helped catch a pokemon and the one who wants to prove his worth just like you. The other protagonist is more like... A good friend who will always be supporting you and your goals while trying to reach his/hers, too. Kinda feels like their relationship would become even stronger with time.
As children we read these stories and wish we were on similar adventures. As adults we read these stories and regret not chasing real adventure. When everything else has passed, Pokemon remains forever.
the BW Agency romance is seemingly similar & parallel to Ruby & Sapphire, but less grucial but, instead of being cocky like Ruby, the Prez is quite a pushover, and Black has a natural talent of being a Sherlock himself I hope you bring up that romance as well in the future

Man, I remember back then when I shipped Ruby and Sapphire so much when reading the last few chapters of the manga. That and many other moment in my past were so great and bittersweet, and I miss them dearly as I grow older 😞...

I saw this video 1 year ago maybe, and it really got stuck in my head for a while, I added the volumes to my "to read" list and after 2/3 weeks of reading I finally reached the ORAS arc today, and I gotta say, what a payoff that was. My only criticism is that it felt a bit too short to be true, wish we had gotten more but what we got was already amazing (praying for us to see the characters again in the future). The Emerald arc did have adorable moments but the arc overall wasn't my cup of tea thanks to the big quantity of battles there were. I'll miss these two so much istg, I loved Black and white as well as X and Y, they were great too, but the cake of my fav pokemon couple gotta go to Ruby and Sapphire for sure!

@Edward Red Mendoza their relationship is definitely more of a sibling dynamic than a romantic relationship. Remember the time Essentia disguised herself as Y, but X saw right through her because she was trying to act romantically with him and made his Pinsir crush her "face"? If you want to look at the *actual* romantic subtext in this chapter, Y and Shauna or X and Emma are what you're looking for.

Ive always been a fan of the Adventures manga since I was a kid since the stories there were more interesting than with whats going on in the anime with Ash, especially since the protags change every arc in PokeSpe. As for the “I Love You” part, the translation of the manga I was reading only had her say “I Like You” so this entire time I felt like the impact was gone cus for some reason they felt like censoring the word “love” lmao?
I adored this manga I haven't read the others yet but if they haven't they need to incorporate the two main heroes falling for eachother in future manga its jus so cute imo
Pokemon Adventures Manga have fair share of romantic shippings in various series like there's the manga counterpart of PokeShipping and QuestShipping, and other shippings that pair the default male and female counterparts in a romantic relationship like Ruby and Sapphire. It's quite a great manga due how's there's a proper time skips that the previous protagonists have grown into adults unlike the main anime itself.
@@ProximamonEldiosDigimon It actually exists with Red and Misty's pairing. They act like those of Ash and Misty in the anime. Unlike their anime counterparts, they often get teased by Blue that there's a love triangle between Red, Misty, and Yellow in the end of Gold & Silver Saga.
You should recap gs or dp next although they dont have romance but they are probally my favourite parts of the series(i havent read black and white onwards yet).
Pokemon Adventures manga need more love. I hope one day you'll cover the awesome jojo-esque battles, like Red vs Giovanni, Red vs Giovanni (Second Round), Yellow vs Lance, the entire Kanto vs Johto gym leader tournament , Dia and Pearl vs Cyrus etc
The thing with these two was that they proposed a bet to see who would complete their respective challenge (contests for ruby vs gym badges for sapphire) within the 80-day timespan between ruby's birthday on july2 and sapphire's birthday on sept20. (July being the month of the ruby and sept the sapphire, those dates make sense.) At times they were together (like over the seas of routes 108 and 109 on wailord), and at others they were not (ruby being in g&t's van while sapphire was in the mt chimney area), and bulbapedia even has a timeline concerning the 80-day challenge. The bet was a draw, since each one fulfilled their end of the deal in time.
the amount of deaths shown in ruby and sapphire is something that would never happen in the anime and that’s one of the many reasons the manga is better than the anime

@Edward Red Mendoza True. That was pretty sad too. I also liked the relationship of Wallace and Winona. I found it cute how Wallace gave up on becoming the champ only to be closer to Winona as a Gym Leader.
3:47 if it weren't for my dad, I wouldn't know who Kenshin Himura was. And Ruby really is very similar to him since he was a deadly killer known as Battosai later on vowed to never take a life again fashioned himself a reverse edge katana.
Ruby & Sapphire is the best couple in franchise in my opinion. Their romance is funny. Effeminate boy and masculine girl but in serious times Ruby transforms into a he-man and Sapphire sometimes acts girly.

I would certainly recommend them, I've read most of them and they ARE incredible.They go into things that the anime doesn't, while still keeping kid friendly ish. I recommend to teenagers or above
I used to dislike reading, but eventually I got to a point where video games and TV shows just moved too slow. Anime will takes 3 months to get through 5 light novels, but I can read that in a few days. I think reading is just a matter of finding the right story.
Man, not seen much of Pokemon manga like at all, didn’t know there the manga was so deep. But anyways yeah this is some pretty cool stuff, I think those two make a good couple. ❤️💙

And I think the BW arc is one of the best arcs to this date, and honestly peak writing that I believe future arcs don't compare. I think B2W2 could have been so much more if it weren't for hiatus hell and it just went flop at the end. :/ Compared to the predecessors, Rakutsu and Faitsu really weren't strong characters.

I actually like black and white’s romance more, I like how it all started as a business and how black’s disappearance just made their love stronger until his return and black and white 2 but ruby and sapphire is still a great story.
I always saw those two a genderbent version of themselves. They look too similar to me and it feels like it's twins in love. I really thought those two are the same person but just set in another universe.
Your recapping of manga events is really great and just makes me want to read these stories more. They seem so rich and interesting and while I love the anime to bits and don't want to outright insult it like most when talking about the manga, I can concede in the act that the manga has many strengths the anime doesn't. Ruby and Sapphire seem like very compelling characters that really do my home region of Hoenn justice.
I think that people should make more rom hacks like adventure red but focusing on different arcs.

Unlike the anime, the manga has great plot and most important of all: great character development
His character growth that led to his Feebas' evolution into Milotic stood out to me the most.
And that's just his own individual character development.
The manga has so much great character chemistry it's really awesome.
I think what I love most about this video is how it barely scratches the surface of what makes these two and their relationship so amazing. It boggles my mind that I had to buy English versions from Singapore just to read these chapters up until recently. I don't know why they skipped over dubbing one of, if not the, best arcs in this masterpiece of Pokémon storytelling. And the icing on the cake of this couple? They age. Adventures protagonists age. Which means maybe someday, we actually will get to see them tie the knot. Fingers crossed, and RubyxSapphire forever.

1. Its a real romance that actually happend and is actually canon, unlike virtually every other romance in the whole franchise.
2. Its just a wonderful addition to a fantastic story arc that is also my favorite in the entire manga.

I’m so happy that this video popped into my feed cuz I remember reading Vol 15 and 16 when I was a kid. it introduced me to not only the concept of role reversal but also the concept of having an unlikeable protagonist which I’m pretty sure broke my narratively black and white world view to see more complex characters and that subversion of traditional gender roles is normal and actually pretty cool (like Ruby being the one into the contest shows and also Sapphire being the one to confess their love to Ruby) Thank you so much for making this video :)

As a player who started playing Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - I honestly felt lacking when I interact with May, like I feel like something missing. So as I played ORAS and saw hints of what their relationship would be in the near future, especially after you beat Steven, warms my heart as if one of my wishes when I still played the first Gen 3 games back in Highschool, wanted. That slight tinge of Romance.
I don't know how but I shipped them right away.
Ruby and Saph are amazing. They were my second arc of the manga (I read DPP first) and they single-handedly changed my opinion on shipping. I was very against the idea as a kid, because I was a kid and romance was weird, but Ruby and Sapphire were to good for me to ignore. And I’m glad because without the I probably wouldn’t have picked up on my second favorite ship: GoldxChrystal
The role reversals that they have with Contests and battles is really clever. Great way to deconstruct the tropes.
I'm still personally not good with that cuz then it makes for a pathetic protagonist and especially one that's based on the G.O.A.T but hey, that's ur opinion.
Finally someone who gives more credit about the manga. It's better than the anime in every way. Instead of sticking to one protagonist we have a variety just like in the games which makes the stories more fresh. It does a way better job in fleshing out the game characters. And ngl Ruby and Sapphire's ship is more compelling than all of Ash's ships combined. The only reason it didn't have an anime yet is because the manga is pretty dark and because of the stereotype of Pokemon being a kids media it can't make it into television which is bull as Pokemon has a large fanbase ranging from kids to adults. They can keep the original anime for the kids while the manga adaptation for the older fans and I believe that could satisfy a lot of fans.

I have never read the Pokémon manga, so I am not sure if it would be “better” for me to start at the beginning or not… but since the generation three games were such a big part of my childhood (along with generation two), this sounds so tempting 😍❤️
If you want to start there it’s fine - a few character cameos and bits of backstory brought in from other series won’t make sense but you can go back and read the older stuff after ^^

DEFINETLY best love story in Pokemon, with the only one that could compete being the player character and partner in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky, but of course it's never stated that their relationship is more than friendship (though that's my headcannon and I will stand by it!).
It's also one of my favorite ships ever, being in the top 5 (hard to say which spot, the numbers from 2 to 5 keep changing depending on which franchise I am more into at the moment)^^
i read the RBY/RSE manga over a decade ago and even just hearing it recounted brings me so much joy to know the word is still being spread of how amazing it is. i still collect adventures series and it's one of my most treasured possessions. goodness me, i think i need a reread.

11 years old me would be screaming if she saw this video. This was my first arc in Pokémon adventures and I loved every second of it, especially Ruby and Sapphire’s relationship! I’m currently waiting for ORAS to release in my country so I can devour them! Either Red and Yellow, or Gold and Crys comes a second though.
Nah nah Red is definitely compatible with blue (female) because yellow looks more younger than red when compared to blue (female) and if you played FRLG then you'll know there's a protagonist that's based off of blue (female) and the games protagonist ships are the best ships.

Somehow even in game, I imagine they also become closer than just friends, I mean, your true rival in RSE is Wally. He is the one you helped catch a pokemon and the one who wants to prove his worth just like you. The other protagonist is more like... A good friend who will always be supporting you and your goals while trying to reach his/hers, too. Kinda feels like their relationship would become even stronger with time.
That's why I always ship them.
As children we read these stories and wish we were on similar adventures.
As adults we read these stories and regret not chasing real adventure.
When everything else has passed, Pokemon remains forever.

I saw this video 1 year ago maybe, and it really got stuck in my head for a while, I added the volumes to my "to read" list and after 2/3 weeks of reading I finally reached the ORAS arc today, and I gotta say, what a payoff that was. My only criticism is that it felt a bit too short to be true, wish we had gotten more but what we got was already amazing (praying for us to see the characters again in the future). The Emerald arc did have adorable moments but the arc overall wasn't my cup of tea thanks to the big quantity of battles there were.
I'll miss these two so much istg, I loved Black and white as well as X and Y, they were great too, but the cake of my fav pokemon couple gotta go to Ruby and Sapphire for sure!

@Edward Red Mendoza their relationship is definitely more of a sibling dynamic than a romantic relationship. Remember the time Essentia disguised herself as Y, but X saw right through her because she was trying to act romantically with him and made his Pinsir crush her "face"? If you want to look at the *actual* romantic subtext in this chapter, Y and Shauna or X and Emma are what you're looking for.

Ive always been a fan of the Adventures manga since I was a kid since the stories there were more interesting than with whats going on in the anime with Ash, especially since the protags change every arc in PokeSpe.

Pokemon Adventures Manga have fair share of romantic shippings in various series like there's the manga counterpart of PokeShipping and QuestShipping, and other shippings that pair the default male and female counterparts in a romantic relationship like Ruby and Sapphire. It's quite a great manga due how's there's a proper time skips that the previous protagonists have grown into adults unlike the main anime itself.

Pokemon Adventures manga need more love. I hope one day you'll cover the awesome jojo-esque battles, like Red vs Giovanni, Red vs Giovanni (Second Round), Yellow vs Lance, the entire Kanto vs Johto gym leader tournament , Dia and Pearl vs Cyrus etc
The thing with these two was that they proposed a bet to see who would complete their respective challenge (contests for ruby vs gym badges for sapphire) within the 80-day timespan between ruby's birthday on july2 and sapphire's birthday on sept20. (July being the month of the ruby and sept the sapphire, those dates make sense.) At times they were together (like over the seas of routes 108 and 109 on wailord), and at others they were not (ruby being in g&t's van while sapphire was in the mt chimney area), and bulbapedia even has a timeline concerning the 80-day challenge.
The bet was a draw, since each one fulfilled their end of the deal in time.

I used to dislike reading, but eventually I got to a point where video games and TV shows just moved too slow. Anime will takes 3 months to get through 5 light novels, but I can read that in a few days. I think reading is just a matter of finding the right story.
