I'd argue Miku is the paint itself of the painting. There are a lot of paints to choose, and after that choice, there are numerous styles of painting, shades of said paint, etc. The artist had a vision, deemed Miku the best choice of paint, and used a perfect tone and genre of music to match.

There are actually many ideas/concepts/creations that aren't actually based in the definable confines of reality, that we humans substantiate, and then keep very closely to us, as something with purpose and meaning (such as humanity). Hatsune Miku, is one such creation, and therefore is as real as any of us. Personally, and I think this goes for most people besides myself, it's a beautiful realisation.
