    Love turtles and other vintage/retro style divers!
    Sometimes I think about trading my black srp777 for this padi variant ...
    But I already have the Oris sixty-five

    Nice review of a very cool watch. Seiko rules the world of affordable divers, in my opinion. I prefer the original turtle watches, but this one definitely has its place and is a cool collaboration. I've had my eye on the batman version (SRP787) of the Turtle for a while now, just haven't actually committed to it. The dial on this one is great though! Thanks for another well done review.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for that Chris! Interesting choice - I think that Batman Turtle flies somewhat under the radar and doesn't get a lot of coverage, so a good one for something a little less common. Seiko is hard to beat in the $200-500 range, although I got a $450 Steinhart to feature soon which certainly competes very strongly!

    • @chr1s60

      Interesting you should say that, I just ordered a green Steinhart Ocean 1 the other day. Should get it this week. Very informative review. I must admit this was the first time I was made aware that the SRPA21 (PADI Turtle) used a different shape and size case than the rest of the new Turtles. I have the SRP779 (Pepsi Turtle) and I thought it was the same as the PADI version except for the dial face and the red outline on the minute hand. Live and learn.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 років тому

      Thanks for that Jan. After more research it turns out the cases may be the same after all. Seiko USA lists one figure for the size whilst Seiko Australia lists another figure. What I can absolutely state is that measuring with a vernier caliber yields a case size of 45.0mm for this watch. Cheers, Ivan.

    • @janreeves5443
      @janreeves5443 6 років тому +1

      I did some research after watching your video and verified that the size and shape of the PADI turtle and "regular" turtle are not the same. The PADI uses case 05HO and the SRP777 uses case #04YO. The PADI is one mm wider at 45mm.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for that feedback - That is helpful and I will defer to the precise case info you have provided. I must say that Seiko do seem to have some internal inconsistencies on their webpages - the USA listings for these watches below say 45.0mm, but the Australian listings say 44.3mm:

      seikousa.com/collections/prospex/SRP777

      Perth WAtch For better or for worse no one ever shows the clasp unless it’s machined. I think most reviewers don’t realize that despite Seiko’s being affordable, viewers do like to see an entire overview of an item before deciding to buy a watch. Then again when it’s available on Amazon Prime it doesn’t matter because you can return it if your not entirely happy with the watch.

    Super Review Of An Extremely Popular Seiko ... judging from its many UA-cam reviews and its many Fans most of which speak very highly of this watch ... It is one of my very Favorites: large, bulky, strong, sturdy with great styling and very functional, a true Dive Watch ... I use my Turtle SRP775 (black face gold highlights) as a go to watch for any occasion without fear of hurting or scratching it as its so Robust & Attractive ... I added the Strapcode.com Engineer steel bracelet which I saw on UA-cam with five hex links across (sturdier than the Jubilee bracelet) with solid end links specially designed for this monster which fit Perfectly and it gives it even more Presence ... Love this Seiko. Major Jim, USMC

    That box is neat. Mine came in a white box with blue trim. My box is larger than the standard Seiko box, but not as cool as yours. It seems the box you get differs with location. I got mine in Victoria BC from an AD so I’m sure it’s legit.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 років тому

      I thought the box was different because this was a sort of special edition (i.e. PADI)... was yours the very same model also? Who knows I guess, Seiko packaging can seem a bit random at times!

  • @hidekihayashi785

    Another fantastic video with the calming voice :)
    I noticed some of the same Padis have different notations at the bottom of the dial:
    1) Movn't Japan 4R36
    2) Made in Japan
    3) no notations at all
    4) 4R36 - OSG4
    Are there different versions or do these represent the difference among K1, J1, and P1?
    Or some of these might not be authentic?
    Thanks!

    • @PerthWAtch

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 років тому

      Thanks for the info! There is confusion on the interwebs because Seiko Australia and USA actually list different dimensions (44.3mm vs 45mm), and I can absolutely confirm that the PADI Turtle is 45mm using a vernier calliper. Good to know it's actually the same!

    • @neilglucente
      @neilglucente 7 років тому

      Perth WAtch. I am also using vernier calipers and they both measure close to 44.5mm (calipers are not digital) between the 3o'clock and 9o'clock markers. Hate to dispute your measure but the cases are definitely under 45mm :).

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  6 років тому +2

      Thank you very much for the kind comment. I'm not sure about this model but in other Seiko models it seems the difference between JDM and K versions are mostly rather subtle, perhaps some different markings on dial apart and slight differences in finishing. More a question of value retention rather than actual enjoyment of the watch I think. Cheers, Ivan.

    • @MrIliff
      @MrIliff 6 років тому +2

      Sega Fever Only differences are the small lettering on the dial by the 6 o'clock hour and also they come with different day wheels. There is actually more than the J and K models. The other models are the JDM model which comes with a Kanji/English day wheel with made in Japan on the dial and back of the case and also another model that is the Roman/English day wheel which does not have made in Japan on. There are quite a few versions actually. Chinese, Kanji, Roman, Spanish, French, Arabic and of course they all come with English. As for the text on the dial I think there are about 3 versions. Made in Japan, Mv'mnt Japan and 4R36 version...

    I don't understand why they don't put a sign crown on a special edition watch.
    On your typical skx or Turtle diver a generic Crown is fine because many people are just buying them for the purpose of modding anyway. However, on limited/special addition pieces most of us are going to keep it just as it is and they signed Crown would add value to the watch down the road.

    Negatives are poor bezel, , pressed clasp and Hardlex scratch magnet chrystal.
    Positives.
    Nice lume.
    Nice looks.
    Great movement.
    I have the 4r39a from the same movement family.
    Chapter ring is aligned for a change.
    Great brand.
    I would buy it just for the name and to impress my fellow Seiko aficionados , however I can't afford it.
    I have 2 Seiko's already, the open heart 4r39a and a Seiko 5 snxg47k1.
    Recently, on a whim I bought a Sea-gull Ocean Star..
    None of my friends had even heard of Sea-gull watches and think I have had a breakdown.
    The Ocean Star has the
    high beat 28800bph movement, signed crown, beautiful case, sapphire chrystal, great bezel and crown action.
    £300 for a watch with great wrist presence.
    I have gone madder still now and bought a handwound Sea-gull St5 from the 1970s and a Sea-gull Flying wheel retrograde day date automatic. The Flying Wheel watch is +2 seconds per day consistently.
    The Ocean Star is +10 and the St5 is plus 15 seconds per day
    My Seiko 4r39a is +-15 seconds a day variable.
    The Seiko 5 is new but wildly innacurrate and sometimes just stops if I am inactive. I don't trust it now. I love the look of it though.
    The Ocean Star is my favourite everyday wearer that I never have to worry about scratching.
    The Lume lasts all night and I love the cyclops which makes it easy to see the date. I am 74 this year and love watches. Your channel is one of my favourites.

      Yeah seriously, have you actually seen a Seiko Samurai? Take a look at pictures and my review also... the bezel on the Samurai is a full 44mm (same as case) and it has angular lugs, whereas the bezel on the Turtle is closer to 42mm (even though the widest part of the case is 45mm), plus it's got those curves and rounded lugs.
      I am not sure what you're last question is asking.. this PADI Turtle is exactly the same dimensions as other Turtles (e.g. the SRP777 model).

      Thank you for sharing your opinion on PADI... although strange that you think opinion can translate to being right or wrong. This is purely subjective. Same with Prospex (your view is the minority BTW), same with 45mm.
      Who is comparing with SKX007? At less than half the price? You lost me there.
