This episode is relevant for 32mm and all 40mm Bing Carburetors found on classic BMW 2 Valve airheads. Follow along with William as he walks you through each step of the mechanical maintenance and repairs to keep these amazing bikes on the road. The best instruction on YT. Thanks.
This has quickly become my favourite channel on UA-cam.
So happy to see you again, William!.
More to come!
Love this!! Thank you so much for walking me through rebuilding the carbs on my Dad's bought new in '85 R80 g/s. I got a big box of parts from you and can't wait to get onto the next step and get this great bike back on the road.
Superb videos, I’m a time mechanic, probably of the same generation, still learning - thanks
William, thanks for a great and informative vid. And listen to what the man said: DO ONE CARB AT A TIME (HDIK). Cheers from Denmark
Very detailed and very informative. Thank you for creating this most useful video on BMW Bing Carb rebuild.
William, I’ve watched a number of your videos, which have been so useful. Love your manner and enthusiasm. The very best of the videos on the web for these airheads. Massive tanks for doing these, Richard
Great to see you again, William. Thanks for all that you do for the Airhead community.
My pleasure! Thanks for your kind words!
You guys are the best. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Very clear and relaxing, it’s like having a tutor next to you. I appreciate the clear and non monotonous speech. Thanks for all you have taught be this far.
Our pleasure!
I was JUST getting ready to order parts for rebuilding the carbs on my R75/6, even have a partial cart put together on your website. This vid came at a perfect time!
I’ll admit, I was pricing out options from a few different places (some of the parts I need are back ordered on Boxer2Valve) but you folk providing these videos are reason enough (though your awesome phone support helps too) to support you with my purchasing.
Thanks so much. We really appreciate the support. It we are out of something, it's usually not for long. You can check with us regarding availability. Often when we are out of a part, we have some more on the way and it may just be a few days away or less.
@@boxer2valve I finally got that order placed last night and you already had restocked the bits I needed.
William, It has been suggested to me by 2 gurus from the Airlist, that my new sluggish throttle response experienced a couple days ago on my 83 R80RT might be due to a torn diaphragm. So your excellent posting was perfect timing for me to atempt to effect a repair the right way. BTW, the website parts layout is superb. Thanks from Seattle
Hey Mark, fantastic! Hope that you get it squared away.
Excellent video, I have a couple of extra carbs that came in a box with my bike, you have solved all the mysteries Thankyou 🤩
Great video. Easy place to buy carburetor parts. Thank you.
Thanks again William for the great video! Love to sit back and learn from a master. Really appreciate your work in making these videos for us!
Our pleasure! It wouldn't be possible without the entire team here at B2V! Especially Jeff!
Thanks William!!! Have been wanting to attempt the rebuild on the carbs on my 1980 R65 but never had the confidence to do so.....until watching your video! Finished off about 2 hours ago and took the bike out for a ride - feels like a new bike!! Best airhead videos i've come across by far! We have a good friend in North Carolina so when we eventually get the chance to visit, i'll have to drop by and thank you in person!!! Keep up the amazing work! Mark - Johannesburg, South Africa!!
Hi William, as above. thanks for giving me the information and confidence to clean and service my r80/7 bing carbs. Wow, what a difference to bikes performance. main jet and vapourizer was clogged with black junk and choke gasket was sucked in ,just as you said!! regards Terry (England)
Thanks mark. We are so happy this helped. Stop buy when you visit your friend. i think you'll like our shop and we have great roads around here.
One of my most cherished possessions! I love it!! I'm glad you like them William.
Oh, yeah ..... I love it! Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much from Italy!
Great presenter. 👍
Thank you for yet another masterclass, William. I really do enjoy your videos and they're proving to be indispensable references when I'm tinkering with my PD. 👍
Wonderful!
Great stuff again, William. Much appreciated from the other side of the globe.
Your silky skills made it a smooth run dismantling the carbs, fortunate in avoiding seized up venturi (the part the main jet screws into).
I was not so lucky and had to use heat, reverse thread 'easy out' and some drilling. Looks like stale fuel had caused corrosion, thereby seizing the brass against the alloy housing.
I had a great time with my Airhead for three years in Zimbabwe, in the late Eighties, when the fuel was a high percentage alcohol (from sugar cane).
The diaphragms split after only two years but, otherwise, those carbs really did a tremendous job!
I've painted the Bing name and the BMW logo white, on the black riveted blanking covers, as I think that's how they were originally.
I could see you were thrilled with the o-ring fitting tool kit, in it's charming box. That was very thoughtful of the gifter. I'm sure they'll be proud to know how highly you rate the gift.
Thanks so much for commenting! Very interesting to read! Sounds like you've done some cool stuff!
Thanks again to you all for dong such a great job in yet another superb tutorial. I'm smitten.
Thanks and we are glad that we can help!
Very clever man and helpful Thanks from uk
The best video of carburetors!!! Congratulations
Thanks. Glad you think so!
Thank you, a really useful rebuild guide for my R65 carbs
Thank you, great infomation.
I have found it really important when cleaning the carb... to check the condition of the choke disc holes. Since the oriface plate is kept tight against the rotating disc with a tight spring... I carefully pry is open a little bit and put a small drill bit or allen wrench between the two discs to keep them separate.. and then really clean out the holes. they tend to get slale dried gas in them. Once they are blown out with air and carb cleaner... I remove the drill bit and put it back together. Really helps with the cold starts.
Thanks Clark for that really great tip!
Ye its great to see u doin ur thing.
Another excellent video, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video as always. Very informative and well explained. When you are done with these episodes I would appreciate if you could refurbish an early R60/2 or R69S.. Keep up the good work!
We would love to but need a subject bike to work on.
I could bring you a *67 R50/2, needing slingers cleaned and loose wrist pin BUSHING corrected. I can live without it as long as you need it. I also ride a 80 R80. Henry@@boxer2valve
Now that we got the pin out!
I love these videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm in the UK, but I would love you to overhaul my gearbox and final drive William. Do you get customers from the UK?
Thanks
Hi William, great video! Is it possible to buy the sleeves for the o-rings you got from the Pennsylvania Airhead guys anywhere? I looked for it in the internet but didn't found any dealer or so. At your website it isn't available, too. Any help is appreciated. Greetings from Germany!
Cool, thanks an other time. Salut!!😉
Thank you too!
Question: On a Bing 40mm, if I have fuel streaming from the vacuum tube connection, which seal has failed?
Alt question: Where is a good breakdown of the 40mm Bing. (My Clymer is woefully inadequate.)
Thanks in advance.
what is the exact method for such perfect exterior cleaning please ? 🤔
Great video, as usual. However, it raises a question. When the float is adjust as you demonstrate, what is the result in terms of fuel in the bowl? A well-respected BMW mechanic has stated the 32 mm Bings should show 24mm of fuel in the bowls, but I can't get that much, no matter how I bend the tab on the float.
Brilliant video, William 👍🏻 I have one quick question. When you vapor blast the carburetor, do you do it on the inside also?
Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Hi William. Im Australian. What is the stuff you cleaned all the brass jet parts with. The slightly acidic stuff??
Hi William, I have a 1982 Triumph 750 ES with Bing Carbs. Would have kits for these? Thank You
Hello,i do not have oil coming out no the right cilinderhead ?on idle, on the leftside it is coming normal?what can bê the problem??
Thans for help
As ever, fantastic video which complements the manual. You mentioned the secondary air system, as a UK rider I would really appreciate your view, keep it or disgard. Not a requirement in the UK, pros/cons? Many thanks
If not a requirement, Disgard. The system pumps air into the exhaust port. The added oxygen increases the temperature to burn the unburnt fuel (hydrocarbons). The excessive heat takes its toll on the exhaust valves and seats.
@@boxer2valve thanks william, much appreciated
Hi I have a 1974 BMW r60/6 that has a problem that nobody can solve. When I start the engine, the rev counter marks 1200rpm and after some time it starts to accelerate by itself until it reaches close to 3000rpm. This happens after 6 to 8 minutes. I wonder why? It have 2 carburetors Bing 1/26/123 and 124. Thanks
fantastico video ti volevo chiedere se si possono sostituire e come le membrane del bing 64 28 201 tappo piatto grazie
Super cool ! Glad you like them !
BMW r90/6 carburetor reconditioning
Excellent viddy. Where is the auto advance and retard unit?
