Jester Azores Challenge 2024 in a 26 ft boat - The Start

- Kerrin II is a 26 ft Westerly Griffon based on the UK East Coast. She took part in the 2024 Jester Azores Challenge (JAC).
The JAC is a single-handed challenge (not a race) from Plymouth in the UK to Terceira in the Azores for boats between 20 ft and 30 ft.
This video covers the start of the challenge's first few days.

As a fellow Griffon sailor I stumbled across you on the AIS app a while back. This year I wondered why you seemed to disappear off Plymouth. Now I know. Stumbled on this video too.
There was limited AIS cover in Terceira, which would explain why I disappeared from view.

Is your boat the bilge keel or fin keel version ?

@@rc2706 thank you for getting back to me, I’m relatively new to sailing and have a snap dragon 890 but I’m finding it hard to have confidence in her due to being a bilge keel, am I being stupid and worrying about nothing.
@@Sailingdancingbear I wouldn’t worry about the bilge keel. I am not alone in having done blue-water passages in a small bilge keeled boat. For instance, Roger Taylor successfully did many much longer and more challenging passages in his bilge keel boat Mingming. His youtube channel is called junkming if you would like to see his vlogs of his passages.

@@Sailingdancingbear Yes, I am based on the East coast, hence the bilge keeled boat.
