Do it! I'd recommend getting an aftermarket intercooler though, the intercooler install is a PITA (check out GTI playlist), better make sure it's worth it unless you're getting an R intercooler for free
@@HardwayLearning I did it today. But have an issue. The first time I launched the car I got EPC light at third gear. I did the APR tune. I left a message with the tuning shop that did the work. Will see what happens.
@@HardwayLearning no. I was advised it's only needed when going from IS20 to IS38. I thought maybe it was a shifting issue. Will get code and find out. Thanks for the reply
We gapped the plugs tighter to .026 and the issue seems resolved. If all goes well I'll do the APR intercooler in the spring. APR is claiming +21 hp gain with their intercooler.
@@Zakw17 he would have to swap the IS12 back on. Because it's using a JB4 instead of a flash they shouldn't be able to tell from the ECU that the car was modified. It's not clear you can run an IS38 with the JB4 if you look at their website, but I've heard of another guy having success.
It's the golf GTI turbo. The Golf Sportwagen has an IS12 (smallest turbo of the group). The GTI has an IS20 (medium) and the GOLF R has an IS38 (biggest).
Nice install, more power! :D
Eventually it will need a flash tune and an IS38, but this should tide him over for now 😂
glad these videos were made hopefully ill survive my turbo swap
Good luck with the install! It's worth the upgrade
Congrats on 3k subscribers! Will there be a IS38 giveaway to celebrate?
No
Nice job boys! I'm here for the wagon... I stay for the jokes. Nice work and enjoy the booooost!
Thanks Dad!
@@HardwayLearning I’m always here for you, son. 🤣
Currently APR Stage 1 with APR Intake. Been wanting to put IS20 and Golf R intercooler in my 2015 Wagon for a while. Might still do it.

@@mhaas281 it's probably boost target/wastegate related issue. Did you set your wastegate voltage?

This guy really likes the camera on him.
Of course
Damn I thought I might be able to do this😳 but idk now lol
It's not that bad, what's the worst that could happen!
Why is20 and not is38? Way more gains for a few more bucks.
I gave him my IS20 for free and he can still run it with a JB4 and retain his warranty. It's pretty fast with e30
How does he retain the warranty with the 20? And why wouldn't the IS38 be the same?

@@HardwayLearning swapping back seems rough. Hopefully he has no issues. I have IS38 plans for my wagon hopefully.
Yeah it would be a pain, but it is at least an option to have work done vs being TD1 and SOL
