I really feel they need each other for these episodes to be enjoyable. Arin with his weird fake attitude here is just bizarre, and I'm not really liking it. Dan by himself is odd as well, but not as bad. I don't know, just not digging the solo plays.

@@SweetMattieG As someone who does Stream it's a super understandable mindset because people are there for you, not the game. So it feels bad as a commentator if people come to be entertained by you and they're just met with a lot of dead air, and working off of a friend or people in the chat is WAY easier than doing solo commentary.
It's easy to kind-of forget, but yeah, there's a clear mindset that comes into play that causes a lot of weird 'inexperienced LPer' stuff, especially for people who go solo. And then on the other end of the spectrum you've got people who rarely talk, which just makes things kind-of boring overall.

Yeah, it's kind-of nuts how much worse his solo commentary game is than his stuff with Jon and Dan. It actually gives me a lot of confidence in my own streams for not being THIS awkward and rough. It's like he knows he has to fill the dead air but he doesn't really have any mental shortcuts for it.
Kind-of wish he tried to stream this or something because working off of the chat helps A LOT for keeping good commentary going because then you can at least get into a topic that's not just the immediate stuff on-screen in the game to work with.
Not even trying to be mean here, but I feel like it is kind-of nice to stop and be like "Oh yeah, even people who are good at this still have bad days" for people who are actually trying to get better at doing their own stuff.

I had this on my old Wii, setup in the living room. We never shut it off, and my room mate and I, along with all of our friends, would occasionally try our hand at getting further. I was able to get us to world 4 in the first day, but together we were all stuck on world 4 for months. That first spring was so bad that we would just kill ourself down to the continue if we died once on it because we needed every life for the castle. This game is brutal.

Honestly though, I agree 100% with Arin. I played the SNES version of this game on the All Stars pack back in the day and never made it past the third world. Even then I knew this game was BS and I still don't get why people hate on the Mario 2 We in the U.S and, presumably, the rest of the world got. It was a fun game, introduced a lot of mechanics and world building that would become Mario game staples (I.E Luigi jumps higher, Peach floats in the air, Shy Guys, Bomb-ombs, and Birdo, just to name a few.). Yeah sure, it was a reskin of another game that we in other countries were never gonna get otherwise, but, it still did a lot to improve the formula and create mythos for the series, AND, unlike the mario 2 Japan got, Our Mario 2 was ACTUALLY FUN!!!
Some people may somehow get confused and believe SMB2 is a bad game when they hear the lost levels was the sequel Japan got. I have a long detailed paragraph talking about why SMB2 is NOT a bad game and, because of its success, helped the future success of the Mario series outside of Japan. Super Mario Bros. 2 is in fact one of my favorite games and I love its world, levels, and characters it introduced (especially Shy Guys!!!). It's still so much fun, especially its GBA version! And its overworld theme never gets old. It's the single reason I am grateful the lost levels is such a ridiculous, extremely challenging and unappealing game for most people. And it's hard to believe that if it wasn't for that, we would have never gotten one my favorite games or Shy Guys, Pokeys and Bob-Ombs.

I don’t think Arin realizes that lost levels was put out like a year after the release of Mario 1. They put lost levels out in Japan and Mario 2 out in America because they were running behind on Mario 3 (which was supposed to be Mario 2). They literally did just open the junk folder of level concepts and had a team scrap them together, most of the levels weren’t tested, so the game was super hard. But on the plus side, we got a doki doki panic reskin and everyone loves American mario 2 now.
Edit: they only added 4 new things besides stages I think. Wind, new song, high jump springs, and a higher bounce off of enemies if you hold jump.
Mario: Can swim in underwater levels

The water in the water levels is much more thicc
