I enjoy how he can go from sounding normal to sounding mad then back to normal and still be funny.
Some people might say Derrick is the Southern version of Chris Farley, but as someone who was raised in the south Derrick is like so many southerners who have an over the top sense of humor but it seems the outside world doesn't understand our humor or our vocabulary and Derrick is the right comedian to share our southern humor with the world. I'm a huge fan!!

My dad had a stomach made of steal. He would find the most run down place in any town we visited and order something. The fact that he didn't die or get food poisoning from some of those places is frankly amazing. Heck, I think we even got ribs from the exact port-o-potty being described here. The ribs were great and we DID make an afternoon of it. Food in the south is something special.

Derrick is right about dive places. That's how it was in the midwest, so when I realize that works here in the south too, I was thrilled. I am pleased to have found some of the most amazing food ever in these lowly places!

Heh.... That's not a hot sauce horror story. Back in my Chef days, I had a prep cook that was seeding Habaneros for next day's green chili near end of shift. Came in the next day with a black eye. Asked him what happened, thinking he got in a fight at the bar after work, he tells us he went straight home last night and his girlfriend was waiting for him, raring to "go". He tells us things got heavy real quick, he didn't have time to wash up, started playing with her "lady bits". With unwashed hands. After cleaning a bunch of Habaneros. We put two and two together and the entire kitchen crew couldn't stop laughing at him for a good hour. He used gloves to prep chilis every time after that. 🤣🤣🤣

Came home to Oklahoma from Colorado after being gone for a few years. Got to drinking with my brother and buddies.. Brother passed out and we drew inappropriate male parts on his face and put jalapeno juice in one of those oil pouring glass jars. Poured it in the corner of his mouth but it went everywhere and he didn't wake up. Next morning, he was the first to wake up but it woke us all up. He went in the bathroom to pee, saw the drawings on his face, cussed a bunch, and started scrubbing his face. Funniest part was, the marker was a sharpie and we had to go to church with my mom that morning. So faded drawings of male parts and the state of Texas on his face in church with my mom.

He's telling the truth about how things out west are hotter! Especially the Mexican grown peppers. It has to be their soil..
Example: I'm also from Alabama, and I grow a garden, and I plant peppers. Banana, Tabasco, and Jalapeños. And I make pepper sauces. Never had any issues. In the 80s, a buddy of mine went down to south Texas and brought back a big bag of jalapeños grown in Mexico. And he gave me half. So I sliced them up one day and pickled them. About 30 minutes later, my hands were on fire! I tried everything to take away the pain. Those peppers actually blistered my hand, and some skin peeled off. I went and bought some pure Alo Vera, and by that evening, the burning had gotten some better but still burned a little.
That evening, after we went to bed, my wife wanted to fool around.😊So, during our little foreplay, I touched her private area. You don't think much at a time like that. Within a minute, she was screaming, calling me every bad name in the book. And ran into the bathroom and sat in a tub of cold water for at least two hours seemed like. 😮
Needless to say, I was in sexual time out for a couple of weeks😢😂😢
