Yeah e30's are getting really expensive now .... you used to be able to pick up a shell for like 100 bucks and an engine and manual swap for like 600 easily but now with everyone doing m50 swaps the getrag manual transmissions are getting really spendy to a point where im struggling to find one for my next build :/
Oh that engine rev noise. How I miss it. I had 2 ‘87 528e’s. One manual with leather and other auto with cloth. A ‘85 325e 5 speed 2 door with cloth, notice yours in the video with manual roof. Mine was power and had the full computer. Then lastly the car I wish I never sold, ‘88 325ic stick White black top crimson leather. Such a blast.
Lachsilber is Salmon Silver. Not Silver Lake. Battery would be in the rear in a 325, unless it’s a very, so of course there’s no rust in the one up front. Early 318 had them in front.
im trying to buy my first BMW e30 convertible, and this video really helped me see the things I need to check out but is there anything else I should be looking for on the convertible version?
Too many hoarders holding on to 5 or more, too many nobjockeys charging 3-4x more than they are worth. Hardly any for sale in a condition you would want to drive it if you owned a typical 80,000 mile 8 year old example second hand back then. You are not going to get a bargain these days and even finding a nice set of BBS wheels on sale from somebody who isn't high/a joker is going to be a monumental effort. The party is over for getting that 325i Sport you always promised yourself in the early nineties people.
I've always had a fondness for the "eta"s the underestimated American brother to the 325i. Their lower broader torque curve makes them great daily drivers. If you swap out the too tall 2.75:1 diff for a 3.25 - 3.45:1 it gives them a whole new personality.
The Lachssilber 325 is really good condition. A lot of interior work, but all manageable. Btw the worn out stickers on the a/c button etc can be replaced. 325i Sunroof, a/c (very rare in Germany) M-Technik 1 steering wheel (500$ in Germany) and the sport seats. Really cool car. Btw the rusty chrome around the front window can be replaced for small money! Thanks for the learning track learnt a lot about my beloved car model.
I think the real question is "where" to find an e30 these days? I had a '91 325i and was rear ended one day 😭 have been looking for another one ever since
Hi plz i need your help can you tell me how i can be sure that the engine is matching number with the chassi of an e30 i have tje vin number but where is the location on the chassi that show me the nupber of the engine
Fabulous car the E30👍 There are 2 convertibles where I live one sitting in the road white GReg and an H reg in a drive I wish someone could give these great cars a good home I just cannot unfortunately 😏
Nice video! Question on the sunroof video I don’t see any other video of what u mentioned. I have a 84 manual sunroof and when I had recently purchased the car I tried opening the sunroof and felt the wire inside snap or something on the rail I can spin the handle but just hear the wires move but sunroof doesn’t so not sure how to fix that no way of popping it up or down :(
I noticed that you went over this pretty good last year what do you do if it’s an 1986 320i. Because this German vehicle does not have all the Vin numbers that Americans do
The engine. The "e" has the m20b27, 2.7 liter 121 hp @ 4250 rpm 170 lb⋅ft @ 3250 rpm redline @ 5000 rpm. The "i" has the m20b25, 169 hp @ 5800 rpm 167 lb⋅ft @ 4000 rpm redline @ 6500 rpm. The "e" engine is designed for efficiency but it has a lower broader torque curve so if you swap out the 2.75:1 diff it comes with for a 3.25:1 one you get a great daily driver. You don't have to rev it to get it to move.
I don't think that buying a 30yo vintage car is good for a first car. things will be breaking and other things will break when you try taking things apart. expect rust that will need to be addressed. that said, many have had it for a first car. if you have the tools, skills and finances then sure. if you don't then I suggest getting something newer.
Typical: short shifter and upgraded steering wheel but the rest of the interior is trashed 🙄. This is what we consider in good shape now. E30s need the equivalent to a child services hotline to report abuse.
Bad ones need to be saved too!
True, I’m kinda considering getting into cars as projects but I’ve never touched a car 😅

The 2.7liter eta engine without kat is the preferred engine for tuning in Germany
The best bmw ever made I think great car

Just a nitpicky thing, but a car made in 7/86 would likely be an 87 model year actually
And this one actuually, works!
All these VIN stickers all over the car are US market only. The European cars didn’t have them.

Bloody hell that’s incredible
I have a 1989 BMW 325I 2dr coupe. Are all the battery box covers the same? I’m scared to commit to an e30 on eBay.

What’s the difference between an “e” and an “I”?
