not true, there are 2 types of counter, the guard auto counter is like what you said, above that there is a guard point counter where you are required for precise timing, it is more powerful and can counter some of the "unguardable" attacks from bosses.
This is my very first time playing ff7. I’ve heard that ff7 is the best one and I gotta say I absolutely love this game. The only other ff games I’ve played are XV and X and this is by far the best one. I love how the combat in this remake is almost like a mix between real time and turn based and they got the balance just right.
If you played the original one you would much rather they stayed true to the turned based aspect. Something all the original fans wanted but square ignored.

Glad to keep hearing that items are actually useful now. Back when I played original FF7 I feel like I never used any items & by the end of the game had like 99 of everything.
You can set a main party member, so even if you only control Cloud on the field every time you enter on a battle they switch immediately for the main party member you set. You can start every fight with Tifa or Barret or Aerith.

super-engineer Yeah, I was disappointed when I realized he wouldn’t be playable in this game but then I remembered that he usually joins your group close to when you leave midgar so it kinda made sense.

If only I could wipe your memory. You could love this game if you would just drop your preconceived notions of FF7. Think of this as a TOTALLY different entity. It's a full game. It's not FF7 classic. Open your mind. And you'll have an amazing time.
It is a full game though, think of it as a reboot that's true to the original as opposed to an out-and-out remake. There's massive additional story lines. It's easy 35 hours of gameplay (and that's without the insane side quests). You get to learn about Tifa, Cloud, EVERYONE in more detail. Biggs and Wedge have personalities. Heck even Jessie has a 2 hour side quest to learn about her parents and flesh out her character. We're blessed with a FF7 complete universe, jam packed with so much detail that they have the luxury of making one section a complete game in itself. If you're a real fan, you'd love this opportunity to explore Midgar in more detail, and you'd pay whatever it costs for the pleasure, regardless of if it's one game, two or three. Man up - get a job, go earn some Gil to buy it.
Is combat supposed to be a chaotic mess with no rhyme or reason? I want to enjoy this game. I loved the original.. but my god. Nothing makes sense nor does it have any coherence. It’s just flashes of lights and words and noises..

Why anyone is buying an unfinished remake makes no sense. How desperate are people for entertainment? If this game was released in single discs back in its original release, it would never be a success. Capitalizing off the names and releasing a portion of the game. Not excited to play a portion of the game we all wanted to see what the gold saucer was going to be like you're not going to see it here folks. Enjoy paying $90 for a partial game.

Actually, Cloud's counter happens automatically when you block a melee attack in Punisher mode. Timing doesn't matter.

There are spots that respawn that you can grind I've found 2 so far but they do not respawn that fast so it is a slow grind.
