My wife and I both have Bafang add on power for our Catrike Roads. Mine is a hub motor and hers is a front drive. Mine only has a throttle, so I just use it on hills, while hers also has pedal assist which means she can lead and I can attempt to keep up. We are both in our early 50's and switched to recumbents about 7 years ago, 100% recommend, INFINITELY more comfortable than my old carbon fiber road bike....it may be slow, but I couldn't care less!!! Hoping to put 2,000 miles on this summer....
It's awesome. Can get carried away with power.. I've got a pair of 52v 17ah and a continuous 40a controller and a 2kw motor. Got some heat sinks for the with motor coming. Peak 5kw :) new i Underwear required :) ive got a KMX with the hub motor. On steep hills keep it moving with pedals in lowest gear then the motor torque kicks in. Get one with suspension though. Really do!
I would like to properly thank Mickey for Donating for the Tahoe event to raise money for Shriners Nor Cal, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Sacramento, and several veterans organizations. I’m not ready to give up my road bike yet but am going to be spending part of my first SSDI check on a “laid back” cycle. I’m very excited to come in and get a fitting…
I bought my Terratrikerambler two years ago. Now at 79averaging 127 miles a month I’m looking forward to the assist to smooth out the hills to keep me from going farther.
Great video! Checked all the things I’ve been thinking. I’ve got a nice recumbent and don’t like what’s out there in my price range for e-assist. Will look into converting my current bike. Best of both worlds. Thank you!
Since you asked, here's my take: I've been mildly obssessed with getting a recumbent for a few years now. I have an e-assist velomobile on pre-order, but I've noticed that the representatives and evangelists of recumbents are guys (mostly) in the back nine of their life, myself included. Maybe we see our inevitable physical decline and want to anticipate and extend our mobility, but whatever the reason, I think we also have another role. Our civilization NEEDS to change the way we get around. E-assist trikes are an obvious small carbon footprint solution. Buy more, ride more, be seen. We are now where automobiles were in the early 1900's, pushing horse-drawn technology out. Electric cars, sure, but e-trikes just as much.
I’m 43 and I’m in the market for a trike… can’t wait to get one. After brain surgery #5 I’ve put on some weight. Although there are many things I could “blame” it on, I choose to blame it on myself.
Is it cheaper to buy a recumbent trike with electric assist already included, or buy an affordable trike without it and then have it added after market with a kit?

We don't carry Sun trikes, so I can't give a thorough thought on that one. We prefer the quality of a Catrike eCat or TerraTrike EVO at a similar price point.
Forget hub drives altogether, if the battery goes flat, they normally drag a little . They are not as good up steep hills because they dont go through gears like bottom mount motors do. You can get a full auto setup with the enviolo cvt rear hub- look into that, no more changing gears and ability to preset the desired input effort or cadence.
I’m thinking about buying this trike, but I have a Maverick without a battery, and I can lift it into our four-wheel-drive truck. I’m concerned this trike will be too heavy for me to lift, and I have to drive to the bike path. About how much heavier and awkward is an e-assist to lift?
The whole idea is this is your transport now so ride everywhere you don't need to take passengers or a big load. The more people on bikes mixing in normal traffic, the safer it gets for us.
@@rossbrumby1957 I wish I could, but I live in an area with high traffic, and those who ride on the roads are braver than I am. There have been several fatalities in the last two years and many injuries. Two people were killed on trikes last year in Clermont, Florida.

Great presentation and I agree. A motor lets you ride to many other areas of your town or city especially where hills were a deterrent.
We I got my motor about 5 years ago, it made me feel 30 again.

Not much more 'awkward' but about 17lbs heavier.
