2 times per week on my KBG here in Utah. Keeping it at 3”. Up to 3 times a week during the crazy flush period. More frequent, the healthier it’ll remain.
I must say.. with the right equipment, I love to mow everyday at 5/8".. Swardman replaced my 10 blade reel and boy what a beautiful upgrade.. she cuts like dream now!! And... the lawn looks healthier than ever before! Thanks JP for sharing your wisdom!!!!
St Augustine is growing like crazy here in New Orleans Louisiana with 90 degree plus weather. I have to mow twice a week. My lawn grows a solid inch over a 24 hour period. My mow heights is 4 1/2.
I mowed mine down right as we were going into drought 😂. I couldn't stand looking at the uneven growth and just needed to level it out regardless of how bad that was. Now I might not need to mow for a month!
I appreciate your content and products!! I’ve been cutting grass every two to three days here in northern Illinois but it’s getting super hot now so it’s slowing down a bit. I water a couple times a week and use Hydretain to help with this, but the TTTF/KBG is being constantly cut to 4” so it looks good so far?! Thank you for all that you do for us DIY’ers
I just ran into a problem with my new Tall Turf Fescue K31 - bare lifeless dirt was seeded very heavily as I was waiting for the temps to come up abnormally later this spring, but then it finally took off with a good stretch of great weather for it, and I was able to keep it at a very thick and strong growing 3" - about a week before it got hot I did a late app of one of those "3 in 1" products(fert, weeder, pre-emerge) that I've never used before, and it grew like crazy as I tried cutting higher up to 4"; but within days after mowing some of the older bigger blades were over 6" so I'd have to cut again trying to keep it under control - however a lot of it was still flopping over laying down, then the heat hit hard near 100°F suddenly, and seemed to brown out the younger thin grass of the plant as it was bushing out of clumps; the seeding seemed to be just too dense to start with for this grass type?(I didn't think it all would take) and struggled for space and water? and then had many tire tracks from the frequent mowing as what was taller laid down and smothered younger starts? then the heat(and fert?) fried it, so the other day in a cooler spell mowed it back down to 3" and raked out the death to stand what was left back up, gave it deep water; altho the heat is back today at 97°F - so idk what I'll have now I really wasn't expecting much(assumed it might fail later this summer) and knew I should just get some growth back in the soil to bring the micro-bio activity happening again ....but dang, I thought I get 'something' for at least a while looking better than this oh well, it isn't my first yard failure(nor my last) but is my first time with TTF(which might be my last, as I didn't like the look, color, and the height; even when it was doing well) ....so what do I do? try better TTF? sell the house and move? embrace dirt yards?
Tifway 419 Bermuda grass at 0.75 inches. Cut every other day until the first dose of T Nex PGR. Then every 4th day. I use T Nex + 7 0 0 Greene Effect dosed every 3 weeks.
I’d add a caveat that only applies to high HOC. Don’t let it get so high you can’t mulch effectively. I mow my St Aug at 3.75”. By the 1/3 rule I can let it get to 5.6” but if I hack off almost 2” I’m gonna have a bad time.
A good question is what if you cut at 2in and it went to 6in. Just go to 2 and take the hit, or go to 4, then wait a day and take it down to 3, then another day to 2
@@Lawncology You have a pretty small lawn so you can get some pretty good mileage out of them. I would check them after 2 months and use that as a benchmark but same rules apply, when you see the tops of the blades getting chewed up you are probably a couple weeks too late. The blades are cheap so I would say maybe a set or two per season with your lawn.

That’s awesome
Can you use on cool season tttf kbg rye?
Look at that green! 😮
Many years ago I bent the drive shaft on a John Deere 14sb when I was cutting high.
Lesson learned.
Don't smoke & mow???
@@RDAmidwest Especially in the heat of summer although alcohol could have a similar effect.
🎶🎶 In the lawn with John!! 🎶🎶
My lawn grows 2" overnight when it rains. It's crazy and I love it!! 😂
You have the ultimate chia pet lawn. Keep it high and tight!
I've got St aug in Texas, It grows like crazy June-Aug lol, I'll be mowing then I think wait I just mowed this like 48 hours ago
And that bent grass looks even better in person!
It keeps getting thicker. Pretty fun to watch
The putting green looks awesome. Just waiting for my sod to take root so I can mow. 3 days and counting 😁
It’s doing really well. Had some cold snaps (oddly enough) but perfect growing temps for the next while and it’s getting very thick
Thumbs up JP..
Thanks D
2/3 maybe more in spring and fall. 1/2 maybe less in the summer. Love to mow.
Cool season here, thanks for the info super helpful
Thank you Johnny!

The rain and heat will make it launch
Great video with some key points.😎🌴👊
Thanks buddy. Keep it simple sometimes right?
Cut every day even if it's so short the blades don't touch from the previous cut?

Putting green goals 🤤
How’s yours coming along? Seemed to have been doing better after you setup the cat deterrent sprinkler lol
@@lawnguy I'll have an update out this week. Just finishing the edit.

Greene Effect is great.

TiffTuf Bermuda cut at .75” every other day and spoon fed weekly with 1801
as you know I'm a every other day kinda dude😳 i just love the well manicured look 🤔 or its my ocd kicking in plus I have the time 😂🤣
Every 3/4 days here in Indiana

I would take the hit and then stay on pace after that.
3-4 times a month in Louisiana summer, and leave it long.
John, I've been meaning to call you. How do you like the Robot mower I sent you?
It’s working great. How often do you recommend a blade change?

For the rule-of-thumb amatuers:
Daily = Perfect
Every other day = Great
Twice per week = Good
Once per week = Less than Good
I know every day with an Automower in Idaho!
Me too!
Mow right before it rains and as soon as the soil dries after.
No more ice cream truck music!
Lol. It didn’t seem quite like that when I picked it 😂
How often? By the time you finish mowing, go back to the place you started and mow again
I do 2 days a week but actually could do 3 days a week.
Every 2 weeks or less... save the bees!!
Bees don’t like grass…. Mine is mowed everyday but around the yard are plants for pollinators.
Just mow it!!!
Every 6 hours or so. 😂
I let Mowey McMowface take a couple days break to see if I could mow the rest of the seedheads out, we will see how it looks today!
