Not judging. Admiring more like it. A lot of work maintaining a channel that displays your passion. Not to mention editing. As they say, you don't make money when in business fir yourself in the beginning.
For the amount you knit and crochet the amount you spend is not bad even you using stash. I mean it is handmade and that is priceless. I didn’t keep up with what I spent. Lord I bet it was more. Because I just got back into knitting after 30+ years and I bought all these needles. I should have bought sets that would have been cheaper but 🤷🏻♀️🙄😂 it’s my money. And what we spend our money on isn’t anyone’s business. We enjoy what we’re doing and that’s what matters. I know my family does too. My 4 year old grandson asked for socks and said he needed another jacket. ☺️
I love the honesty in this video its refreshing. I spent a lot on yarn in 2024 as well but with a big girl job, you can have a little fun lol! Love the pieces you knit as well!
Your accounting for your hobby was enlightening and makes me wonder what I’m spending on mine 😮 I look forward to “the time we will spend together” thru 2025. I REALLY enjoy your videos.
TBH, I'm glad you shared, thank you! The breakdown helped me see that it's not just the cost of yarn and spinning fiber I have to track, but also the tools I purchase which I never consider. Looking forward to hanging out with you in this space for 2025. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share income and expenditures! I think it’s interesting as an accountant and a knitter. And I also think it’s really important! There’s so much push nowadays to monetize our hobbies, and sharing data like this helps level-set people’s expectations.
Thank you! I'm also an accountant, so I always find this information interesting. Part of me thought that sharing the numbers would be in poor taste, but I'm relieved to hear that you appreciate it!
Heyhey just found your channel. Don't know why nobody said anything about the blue jacket, it looks stunning either way. Even if you had bought it, it would have been a good find. Also your voice is nice to listen to while crocheting.
Well I haven't counted how much I spent on yarn and related things this year (I suppose I should...) but I brought in no money from my craft and I'm sure I spent more than 1500 bucks. I made 22 projects this year. 5 used yarn I've reclaimed from projects I wasn't using. 2 used long-time stash yarn and one sweater's quantity was a gift. So new money was effectively spent on 14 projects and things like project bags (I think I bought 2) and a lovely leather notions keeper. I also spend a reasonable amount of money on yarn and accessories for my kid (at uni) 🙂 Buying high-quality yarn and having it shipped costs. But that's why I'm happy to reknit with it if the first (or second) project doesn't stick. It wears well and holds its own over multiple knits. Also - it's gorgeous and I'm as excited to knit with it the second time as I was when I knit it the first...
@kristinm3729 it's great that you're not afraid to rip out the projects that didn't work out. I have a couple more on my list for this year. And wow, your kid is so lucky to have access to nice materials thanks to you 🤩🤩
No judgement from me! You never know if a product is going to revolutionise how you do things till you try. If you can afford it and think it will be useful then there's no problem. I've loved seeing your favourite knits, you choose great designs and yarns. Happy New Year to you!
The way I see it is your bottom line shows your hobby only costs about $4 a day. That’s a very reasonable hobby!! 😉 I think I’ll try to keep better track of what I spend this year, just for giggles. I’m very proud to say I haven’t purchased any yarn this year!! 🤩 (And we’re 7 days in.)
Have you heard of PPHOP? Pennies Per Hour of Pleasure I don’t feel guilt for spending money that I have on things that fill my free time with things that bring me joy. How much is a concert ticket or a movie ticket for a few hours? People who go out don’t seem to feel the guilt that crafters feel for the supplies that bring them hours of occupation, satisfaction, and pride.
as always love your video!! Interesting you didnt count the frogged sweaters in your stash reduction. I would argue that a sweater that is defunct and unuseable for you is technically stashed in your house! Even if it is not skeins it is still stashed yarn in a different form 🤣I have a few defunct projects in my apartment that I need to frog...I would consider them stashed because it's yarn I can use for 'free' (with a few extra steps to get it back to skeins lol) Really liked seeing your financial totals too! Thanks for sharing with transparency ◡̈
Thanks for being so honest and open! It’s really refreshing (and I feel seen😅). Your knitting is fantastic, that Book Club sweater is so gorgeous on you - the colour!! Also you’ve inspired me to keep track of my knitting related spending in 2025, and to have a destash! Did you sell your yarn via Ravelry, can I ask? Thank you so much! Love your channel ❤
I really appreciate your thorough and thoughtful look at the finances behind your year! I’m considering going cold turkey no buy later this year but we shall see🫠
It doesn't matter if someone judges you because that's their issue: it has nothing to do with you. I LOVE your knits. You have real talent and I enjoy listening to you talk about your work (i.e. knitting). Happy New Year!
Happy new year! Thank you for sharing the finances of your hobby. I've loved following the stash updates throughout the year and having a few pattern highlights, and an end of year recap of all of this is such a nice and tidy little package. Great video.
No judgement here - I also have a big girl job, and I spend A LOT of my big girl money on yarn and yarn-related tool and accessories! What's so great about a big girl job if you can't treat yourself?? Are you willing/able to share your favorite places to post de-stash yarns to sell them? Due to the reason above, I definitely have some quality yarn that I don't think I'll ever actually use.. (cringe)
@MariaMartinStudio thank you for watching! I've sold almost everything through this group i joined at lauraallyson.party and I've sold a couple items my posting to my story on instagram. If I had Facebook, id probably try the Marketplace too
You basically spent approximately a little more than $100 a month on your hobby. This is cheaper than going to a therapist and cheaper than my husband’s hobby of hunting. I like you saying you make big girl $ , it’s your business. I agree….. I spend what I want within my budget. Love your channel. I’m too lazy to video so I enjoy yours. THANKS FOR SHARING 🧶
Wow, I love how you shared your projects and also your statistics. Nicely done video. I am curious, is your big girl job in accounting? Anyway, I subscribed and look forward to your videos🌺
Your work is so beautiful ❤.i hope to be productive next year.I purchased yarn, needles, project bags and plenty of books. Maybe I'm a collector but I want to make my garments to subsidize my wardrobe. Happy New Years 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful knits and a fantastic lineup of garments and accessories. I think it’s slightly erroneous to cost out your hobby and not offset it against what you may have spent that money on if you hadn’t been knitting. Also, you have individual, hand crafted garments in your wardrobe and you have become proficient in a skill which is sustainable as opposed to buying ‘fast fashion’. These are amazingly beautiful, practical, aesthetically pleasing, garments which, if you also bought the wool from local shops, who also source their yarn from local farmers and the yarn is milled locally, you are contributing to the employment of your country and to its own circular economy. Additionally, if the wool is natural and not superwashed, there is the added bonus of not contributing to non-compostable landfill at the end of the item’s life and your impact on climate change is considerably reduced. While these benefits may not seem to be large, think of the changes the knitting and crocheting community could make to your country’s economy, environmental impact and to the prosperity of your local shops, farmers and millers. Keep going, mindfully. You are amazing.
Hobbies are priceless in the world we live in. If it makes you happy it's worth every cent.✨️
