Thanks so much for sharing your trip! we just got back from Hobart and would want to be back in Tassie to explore. Great to see the chargers network! I might do your trip later in the year! Thanks heaps. ❤
Great video John. I live in Hobart, have a Model 3 :) Nice to see you made good use of the charging network here. Electric Highway Tasmania was formed by a group of local AEVA members who wanted to ensure that you could drive an EV anywhere in Tassie, so it's by EV drivers, for EV drivers!
Yes, great travelogue John. We did a shorter trip (Devonport- midlands- Hobart - east coast - Devonport) last October in the EV6. Charging was easy and we got lucky with no waiting anywhere. In particular the excellent Evie 350kW charger at Brighton is on the old highway and very quiet! By the way, friendly corrections: Ouse is pronounced ‘ooze’ and Launceston is pronounced ‘Lonn-ceston’. 😊
Nice. Brave of you to drive that gravel road on the west coast to Corinna. I would not have taken my car there. I'm doing an around Tassie trip next summer, butI think I'll stick to tarmac.
Thanks for your video. Can I recommend you add columns on your spreadsheet for the amount of kw you added at each charge and the charge duration? It would be useful to see.
Hi John good video, I wish I could have done our recent Tasmanian family trip in a model 3 but our caravan tow capacity is above Tesla 1.5 tonne limit. I estimate it cost nearly $750 in fuel costs. Hopefully there are a view more option to tow larger caravans in Australia soon.
Wow. Only $339. Perfect. Great video mate. Just ordered our Tesla model 3 rwd and I'm craving good content on road trip as we have already booked our Melbourne to Sydney road trip and I wasn't sure if I should take the ev or not. I guess we should now after this. Tnx
Yes, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well an EV can handle a long road trip. Especially now that there’s more fast charging infrastructure available - particularly across the Aus eastern seaboard. Melbourne to Sydney road trip is a no brainer.
Hi Secto. There are plenty of possible roadtrip itineraries for Tasmania available on the internet. Sifting through I pulled out what was of interest, researched them a bit further to see if feasible (i.e. opening times, access) and built the itinerary that is in this video.
Thanks for posting this, 2 of my favourite topics Tassie and Tesla EV's!!!! You mentioned that the tesla universal charger charges at 15 amps, on the tesla website it suggests an 8 amp and 12 amp connector, do you have a specific 15 amp connector? Also I have a refresh model 3, do you think clearance woul dbe an issue on the roads/ferries that you travelled? Cheers
Hi. There are two types of connectors here - one is the standard powerpoint which provides 10A generally in Australia, Tesla labels that as 8A though I get 10A out of my UMC for this connector. The second connector is for use in a caravan park and can be recognised with a bigger earth pin. Generally the caravan type power points output 15A but Tesla label it as 12A. I get 15A from my Tesla UMC using the caravan adapter. No problems getting on and off the Spirit of Tasmania with low suspension. As for the other barges and ferries you should be OK, likely there is a person guiding you on and will key an eye out for the clearance for you. Any big changes - dip or bump - try to take at an angle rather than straight on.

Thanks Charles. Yes the Electric Highway Tasmania is a great initiative that eliminates any range anxiety excuse to travel around Tassie in an EV.
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Fantastic video pleasure to watch and great insight into how to properly do a road trip in an EV getting my Telsa Y next week!
Thanks FLS. Yes get out there and enjoy the country in your new Model Y.

How to book the ship that can take your car to Tasmania ?
Great video. How did you decide what places to visit and things to see?

Thanks for your video, your Tesla are long range or real wheel ??
Hi Kim. I drive a standard range RWD.
