For the price, it should have come with the 9v and a spare one 😂 but they say in their website that the battery is not included, so I guess it wasn't an oversight
They didn't forget the battery, that was intentional. I bought a Dingwall Bass from Canada and they didn't ship a battery in it either. It's a customs/safety thing apparently.
So right about how riffs/tracks are written based on whether your playing a 6 or 7 string (especially 8 strings), limiting yourself to a 6 string really helps you think more about the higher notes. I love 7 strings, I personally think they're the best, but it's always healthy to switch up. Limitation is the best inspiration to creativity. Love the videos man!
I instantly thought of Alexi Laiho the second I saw that guitar. Similar killer looks and all the other cool stuff this guitar is loaded with. It's a beauty for sure! Hope hes's having fun up there! We all miss you!
Glen, you are a bit young to remember pitching the multi-track tape machine down and tuning the guitars down for metal tracks way back in the dark ages of the 80's. I could tune a guitar down and re-intonate in a smoke break even if the guitar had a Floyd.
Cracks are on the ebony fretboards, not on the (roasted) maple ones 😶 As many people pointed out in your previous video - shipping any kind of batteries internationally can be an issue. You have plenty of time to buy one while waiting for your guitar to arrive.
Going down a half step with the same string gauge is about 30 minutes. Start by turning the screws on the claw that holds the springs counter clockwise a half turn, then retune, and repeat until the bridge is where it should be and the guitar is tuned to pitch. It usually takes me no more than a half turn then 2-3 8th turns on the screws. Adjusting the intonation is not needed.
Pretty sure Solar doesn't ship guitars with batteries. I didn't get a 9v when I bought one with Fishman's... It may be a shipping restriction for international order?
I have tried to ship things internationally and had them returned as it contained a battery (they removed the battery before sending it back to me. They could have just removed the battery and continued shipping it). Maybe this is the main reason it didn’t contain one in the box
When I was buying a Dingwall in Europe it didn't have a battery as well and the local dealer got one for me. I think it is a normal practice to ship parcels overseas without batteries because it is dangerous and even forbidden in some counties by local laws
While I do understand the argument that low notes are harder to discern, I think the lack of memorable 7-string riffs has more to do with the fact that 7-strings are a lot more recent, and only found in some subgenres of metal, also they didn't really exist back when rock was at its peak.
in my opinion ,a recording studio, and the metal music one , must have some 9v batteries , and some EMG pickup guitar ,or BASS , some BASS need 9v battery for preamp circuit right??
"If somebody had of been paying just a little bit more attention..." Come on Glen, there's kids out here watching you for thorough reviews and information, you should have been paying just a little bit more attention when ordering and you definitely should have been paying attention to the comments on the last video before posting this one. To quote one of my favorite music recording UA-camrs, "Remember kids, always read the fine print!" - Glen Fricker
So many epic face melting albums were recorded with 6 strings and in standard E tuning. While 7 and eight strings are badass, they reek havok in the low end with mixes. You end up cutting a lot of that information out to make room for bass and kick. I remember hearing Korn for the 1st time when they released Blind and was utterly blown away by the lows. Up until then, I associated the 7 string with jazz guitarists and utillizing counter-melody. It's amazing to see/hear how far it has come in just 30 yrs concerning metal. That said, I still prefer the metal made with 6 strings and standard E tuning. Death, At the Gates, In Flames all seem to do fine by it, so if it pleases the metal gods, it's good by me. Thanx Glenn.
Dude YES!!! My son plays now he is 16. He said to me the other day that he thought it was cool how a lot of the older bands like slayer, early Metallica, etc. use standard tuning’s mostly with an occasional drop day and I try to do that my playing I’m not against seven string, guitars, or a string, guitars or low tuning For me. It’s just something I haven’t needed…. Yet please.
Haha, You sure loved your new toy in this one, Glenn! It was awesome to see you so excited! Loved my Solar E2.6C, other than it felt so damn heavy. Great guitar, but I always went back to my Schecter C1-Platinum. I never thought a off the wall Guitar center exclusive would be my favorite, but its what I end up going back to after an hour or so.
Little bit about the Artist this guitar is signature to: Jonas Wolf is one of the guitar players in the Folk Metal band Eluveitie. Half of Eluveitie, including Jonas, is in another band called Illumishade. Jonas is also in a Van Halen tribute band in Switzerland called Fun Halen. EVH has left big an impression on him as evidenced by this guitar (1 pickup 1 volume, floyd rose, maple fretboard) and his playing. I met him briefly while Eluveitie was on tour, definitely hoping to properly shoot the shit with him about Van Halen one day, as me and the other guitar player in my band are also hugely influence by EVH.
Bear in mind that overdriven 6string guitar is around since, say, 50s/60s while as far as I'm concerned, 7 string playing started with Steve Vai's solo stuff and Dream Theater's "Awake" around 1994 or so. Btw, the main riff in "Lie" from the latter is one of my all time 7 string favourites
My first thought was “check and see if you need a battery “. Even when batteries are supplied, they still have a little plastic piece to remove. Glen, totally your fault. 100%
Genius, Glenn. Trolling your viewers by making a 2-part video. Well played, sir. Got to admit: You had me on the "disappointed" video. I was like "WTF? Over a battery?"🤣🤣🤣
Probably unpopular opinion. These videos should have been combined to avoid shining an unfair negative light on Solar. Guitars shouldn't be shipped with batteries, especially guitars made in the far east that tend to come with sub-par off brand batteries. The risks are simply too much to justify the convenience of shipping with a battery. It's just weird to make the previous video regarding a "friends" company and then turn around and make this video the next day despite the fact that the manufacturer did the right thing all along.
i think 1300 is good for what you get compared to other makes right now, how much is the cheapest usa fender or the cheapest gibson, and they are bare bones guitars that likely will need work to make them play well.
I have the same pickup but in a seven string guitar. The different voices are: 1. a hot active pickup (with the knob pushed in), and 2. a more classic hot passive pickup, à la JB or Super Distortion (knob pushed out) Voicing one has a definite upper-midrange bump, kind of like a built in tube screamer, and sounds best with a modern high gain amp. Voicing 2 is darker without the midrange bump, and sounds best with a more classic crunchy amp pushed with an overdrive pedal :)
As someone who used to work in a retail job where we imported a lot of electronic goods, a majority of stuff was shipped without batteries for 'safety reasons'. Still sucks though

I know I'm doing something wrong within the signal chain, I just can't figure out what, as im getting nothing from the amp when sending the dry track to the reamp box. Any help would be appreciated 🙏
I totally agree with you, when I started playing guitar back in 1993 I lived on the lower 3 strings below the 7th fret. now it's the exact opposite, it's above the 7th on the higher 3 strings. lol. that's a pretty sick guitar dude , i may have to go snatch one of those up. I have been really craving a single pup guitar with the Floyd and this definitely fits the bill. Great review/reviews you definitely convinced me to go get one. lol.

A 7 would be pretty cool. This reminds me of the old Alexi LTDs that came out almost 20 years ago.
For the price, it should have come with the 9v and a spare one 😂 but they say in their website that the battery is not included, so I guess it wasn't an oversight
This should be pinned
That's if you order it. We don't know if Glenn ordered this or it was a "free" guitar.
@kanoaikawach in that case it would be more likely that he had received a battery. And Glenn has been doing blind buys for a while
Glen your videos bring comfort to my day! Keep rocking those riffs are sounding better and better
Just looked at this guitar on Solar's website and at the bottom of the page it says "NOTE: 9V battery is not included".
Sounds killer. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Glenn the guitar sounds great and your playing on it is wicked. Thanks sir for the video. Take care.
Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this vid!🤘
Cracks are on the ebony fretboards, not on the (roasted) maple ones 😶
As many people pointed out in your previous video - shipping any kind of batteries internationally can be an issue. You have plenty of time to buy one while waiting for your guitar to arrive.
Fun fact, a 9V battery often is a good backstop to block a Floyd while tuning it.
Thank you
Hey Glen, wishing you and Julie the best!
You're absolutely correct.
Yeah but let's be honest they have been out enough to have had more iconic riffs but they don't have much. I'll stick with 6 most of the time
in my opinion ,a recording studio, and the metal music one , must have some 9v batteries , and some EMG pickup guitar ,or BASS , some BASS need 9v battery for preamp circuit right??
That might be the best live rock/metal medley ever. Phenomenal performance
"If somebody had of been paying just a little bit more attention..."
Come on Glen, there's kids out here watching you for thorough reviews and information, you should have been paying just a little bit more attention when ordering and you definitely should have been paying attention to the comments on the last video before posting this one.
To quote one of my favorite music recording UA-camrs, "Remember kids, always read the fine print!" - Glen Fricker
Oh, and I didn't know it was the signature guitar from the guy in Eluveitie... Love the band.
I never thought a off the wall Guitar center exclusive would be my favorite, but its what I end up going back to after an hour or so.
that wood color on that fretboard and headstock looks so nice.
Dude, what an absolute unit. Solar V’s are gorgeous! Can’t wait to own one someday 🤘
This guitar looks pretty awesome! Can't wait to take it for a test drive, if I can ever find one.
Me: Can we have Berried Alive?
Mom: No, we have Berried Alive at home.
Berried Alive at home: 6:04
Coulda sworn Solar guitars has a comment that says: Note: 9V Battery is not included. Juuust sayin, Glenn!!!
I was looking at the specs and thomannmusic lists the nut width as 48mm. Is this a typo or does it feel wide?
you are getting better and better playing guitar nice job
Genius, Glenn. Trolling your viewers by making a 2-part video. Well played, sir. Got to admit: You had me on the "disappointed" video.
I was like "WTF? Over a battery?"🤣🤣🤣
Great looking and sounding guitar the crunch is awesome.
I think to two tones of the pickup should have a two position toggle switch instead of push pull. Easier to use while playing.
Alright got the 9 volt today! awesome!
Solar homepage says "batteries not included"
Probably unpopular opinion. These videos should have been combined to avoid shining an unfair negative light on Solar. Guitars shouldn't be shipped with batteries, especially guitars made in the far east that tend to come with sub-par off brand batteries. The risks are simply too much to justify the convenience of shipping with a battery. It's just weird to make the previous video regarding a "friends" company and then turn around and make this video the next day despite the fact that the manufacturer did the right thing all along.
Can you play Battery on that for us?
Sounds amazing. wish it had a neck pickup tho.
i think 1300 is good for what you get compared to other makes right now, how much is the cheapest usa fender or the cheapest gibson, and they are bare bones guitars that likely will need work to make them play well.
Where's the other pick up and the selector switch? 😕
I’ve seen myself get back into the good ol six strings after having played on 7s for a while. It’s like finding new creative outlets again!
You being a Canadian I am surprised you haven't seen the kill switch on the Epi Jeff Waters V. That thing came out many years ago.
Hey Glenn, I think you need to put yourself on the butthurt of the week over that battery issue! And you bloody know it ! 🤣😂 Keep up the good work 🤘🤘
Hey Glenn - Why do I never hear Canadian "metal" classic Helix - Rock you as one of your demo songs? Food for thought.
I have the same pickup but in a seven string guitar. The different voices are: 1. a hot active pickup (with the knob pushed in), and 2. a more classic hot passive pickup, à la JB or Super Distortion (knob pushed out)
Voicing one has a definite upper-midrange bump, kind of like a built in tube screamer, and sounds best with a modern high gain amp. Voicing 2 is darker without the midrange bump, and sounds best with a more classic crunchy amp pushed with an overdrive pedal :)
in some countries its against shipping regulations to ship batteries
As someone who used to work in a retail job where we imported a lot of electronic goods, a majority of stuff was shipped without batteries for 'safety reasons'. Still sucks though
The intro editing is fun, just so it doesn't seem unappreciated in all the comments actually reacting to the topic of the video.
Oh so NOW he's impressed.
amazon sells 9v - a 20 pack is like $8. International shipping costs more for a battery.
Hey Glen. I've finally been able to buy some new equipment so I can learn how to reamp. Something ive wanted to dive into for years.
I know I'm doing something wrong within the signal chain, I just can't figure out what, as im getting nothing from the amp when sending the dry track to the reamp box.
Any help would be appreciated 🙏
Maybe they are not allowed to ship with battery???
GLEEEEEENNNN!!! Could we get you to look at the schedule Keith merrow SIG soon?
your riffing sounds effortless on that axe man \m/
Nearly the best benefit of passive pickups no 9v needed
They put the the jack in the right spot this time rIght?
I totally agree with you, when I started playing guitar back in 1993 I lived on the lower 3 strings below the 7th fret. now it's the exact opposite, it's above the 7th on the higher 3 strings. lol.
that's a pretty sick guitar dude , i may have to go snatch one of those up. I have been really craving a single pup guitar with the Floyd and this definitely fits the bill. Great review/reviews you definitely convinced me to go get one. lol.
The vinter series with fishmans says "note does not ship with 9v battery" i'd say that goes with all the active models. Nah, you're right, some f*cknuckle forgot. 🤦♂️
Looking at this and the previous video's thumbnails side by side is a delight.
Sick looking guitar, I'll be checking to see if they have a non-Fishman version.
those r2d2 sounds you made with the whammy bar and the gapper button gives me the idea of a gapper button that attaches to the whammy bar itself.
Was waiting for this
Good on Glenn for righting that wrong!😂
Would you be able to try this guitar with a strap and see if it has any neck dive? Thanks
Dem Dive-Bombs though
ShredMaster Glennn over here. Somebody come get their grandpa 🤘🏾
You turned your guitar into R2-D2 there for a second.
FUCK!!!! Glenn looking AMAZING!!! Fantastic on the weight loss and Keeping healthy!
I totally agree Glenn,my playing changes from 7string to 6string.
I feel like when I'm playing a 6string its a lil more inspired.
I wish every dorky axe would improve as much as this by just adding a battery
I like the guitar sound you got for this one. Very roomy sounding.
Glenn is a UA-camr- he used the battery thing and a click bait title to get you all worked up and leave a comment and it worked and now we’re all watching part two because we love Ola and Glenn is getting even more views from that. It’s just a game
Thanks for the update Glenn. Do you think it's possible they can't ship it with a battery due to import restrictions? Although I wouldn't see why considering my PRS HB2, EC-1000 and my Epiphone Matt Heafy all came with a 9volt battery and they are imports.
Would those bright baked fretboards be less prone to cracking, I wonder...
Good God that thing is beautiful.
The Bad News shirt is the WIN for the day.
Got to see them at Donnington in the 80's - tell me I'm old haha
Solar website states Batteries not included.
While I understand your frustration & your point about wanting better, the current market has so may imperfections (cough, Mustaine V), that a missing battery which is specified really doesn't feel worthy of this much disappointment... maybe that's just me though.
Thanks for all the detailed reviews, these are great fun
I've only have one guitar that needed a battery, a Gibson J-29 acoustic. It had a battery installed.
The finish is flawless, by the way 😁
Right from the Solar website, under the description. “NOTE:9V Battery is not included.”
It’s up to the customer to provide. This is not Solar’s fault. 🤷♂️
Are you going to put out the Slate VSX part 2 video ever?
On the battery topic, has anyone ever tried those Fishman internal battery kits, that you hide inside, with the USB port drilled in to your back plate?
