It's probably worth looking at the background of the song in this case, since the history of it with the longer standing band members means there are some apparently odd performance choices (specifically Marco and Emppu checking on Tuomas) which make sense in the context of the history the song narrates, but look odd to new eyes.

What a good reaction, I've seen a few from other voice coach pros but yours is the first that covers all aspect of NWs performance. To my mind the most important part of a NW show is the symbiotic relationship between the band and their audience, NW fans have a deep appreciation of Floors voice and all the others amazing talents and when we go to a gig we know we will go through an emotional wringer.
There is a feedback loop generated between band and fans, we support them through the emotional rawness of The Poet and The Pendulum, we laugh and smile through Alpenglow and we give and receive love every minute we are with them.

About the ending queue: It won't be a surprise that they did this a lot of times and it became a natural thing. This was a registration of their last concert of a world tour of 104 concerts. An amazing thing is that the singer jumped in half way the tour in the US to replace the former singer. She literally saved the tour that seemed doomed.

I'd suggest Greatest Show on Earth live in Tampere 2015, It's a 24 minute long number, If you also include the outro at the end which is also composed by Toumas(Keyboard). That song allows all the bandmembers to be on stage Including their multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley(Flutes, pipes etc.).

another great reaction! i've seen that video so many times and seen so many reaction videos to it and i still fall in love with floor all over again every time i watch her perform this song. it was really interesting to hear your insights into everything that went into the actual performance and not just her voice, which not many people have done. there were a lot of things that i think a lot of us didn't really register consciously, but just about everything you pointed out did have an effect on how engaged we were as an audience. i'd love to hear what you have to say about floor's more recent performance with henk poort, when they sang "the phantom of the opera" together on the dutch show, beste zangers.

So glad you used the Wacken Version of this song, it is by far the best Version of the song!!! Although I do have a pet Love for the Tampere Version also. I Love your analytics of this song and in particular to Floor. She is such a Great Singer!!! I often ponder on whether or not Nightwish would still exist, without bagging Floor as Lead Singer. This was her first Big Stage Performance with the Band by the way!!! Which is another reason why I love this song so much!!! Emppu has such a Technique with his guitar, Love it!!! Fascinating!!! Tuomas (Synthesisers (and Founder of the Band)) is such a Composer!!! Love him too!!! Wait for it!!! Oh yes I love them all including Marco (Bass) and Troy (Pipes) LOL!!! Floor is Very A Dramatic Performer!!! Please react to some more of Nightwish's Track I'm interested for sure, maybe try The Poet and The Pendulum @ Wembley or even the Tampere Version of this song, because there is a mega pleasant surprise somewhere in that one. thanks for this analysis - it's not just a reaction for me, it's a very deep analysis and by the way, it's the best video I've ever heard about this song.
You notice the professional who knows and understands what he is talking about. I like more of it - especially for Nightwish there is a lot of stuff that would be interesting.

Excellent analysis. I've watched a lot of people react to this song and you really broke it down so even those of us who don't know much about music and production can understand and enjoy this awesome song in new ways. Thank you for this.

Good to hear someone who was able to fully analyze everything about this song - not just excellent vocal performance and instrumental competence, but also an understanding as to why the songwriting is excellent, or how well all of the performers operate as a cohesive unit!

Cool reaction and analysis. Some points though: about the whole opera metal thing, most metal heads will happily listen to classical as it's pretty much metal pre electricity. But more seriously I think it's because we metal heads appreciate the different textures, complexity and technical skill the music requires of the musicians and the composer.
Floor pretty much crushes any musical piece put in front of her. I'm surprised you didn't mention how much she holds back her considerable power when appropriate (speaks to her skill as a singer). For example listen to where she's at power wise between the end and when it's just her, Marco (bassist, who also has a great voice by the way) and Jukka (drummer) nearer the beginning.
She's also a lot of fun to watch on stage (lucky enough to see them live shortly after Floor joined the band).

AWESOME!!! I was both a theater and choir geek in high school and I lost track of the number of concerts I was taken to from groups from the 1950s to present day. I love a performance that combines solid writing, musicianship, vocals, choreography, and overall production. Nightwish has it all in spades 😎
They’ll be on the road next year if you want to see them live 😉
Several here have suggested you react to The Poet and the Pendulum and I agree! I also think you should definitely check out Romanticide from Wembly (it’s short FYI), Shudder Before the Beautiful, and The Greatest Show on Earth 👍
Stepping away from Nightwish, I think Epica will probably blow your mind, especially Chasing the Dragon from their Respect show 😁
Thanks again and have a fantastic day!!!

Great performance! Its was a rich explanation of the work of art that Tuomas (keyboards and composer of 90% of NW músic) created. He is a genius. Of course, Floor and all the musicians are the best the world can give as well. All put together creates magic. There are too many Good songs to recommend but there are two that you will love most, The Greatest Show on Earth live in Tampere and the Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley. In term of composing exceeds this one to me. The poet song requires you to know the back story to fully appreciate that masterpiece (choose a vídeo with Lyrics) congrats

Hi dr. Reynolds! What a great way to look at this. I feel like I’ve just had a masterclass of a masterpiece - thank you!
I would love it if you would also check out the song Floor Jansen sang with mr. Henk Poort (who played the Phantom in The Netherlands in the nineties and was a favorite of Andrew Loyd Webber). They sang The Phantom of the opera. And they did it amazingly!! 🌷🌷🌷its from the show Beste Zangers 2019.

Thank you for this in-depth breakdown. I like how you brought all aspects from lighting and costuming down to vocal posture and movement into consideration of what makes this piece work. While Floor and the guys of Nightwish are undoubtedly talented, there is a ton of work done to bring these performances to this level. I'd love to hear your analysis of Floor and Henk Poort's recent Phantom of the Opera video.
