  • There once may have been 250,000 miles of stone walls in America's Northeast. These stone walls tell a fascinating story of continental collisions creating lofty mountain chains, glaciers burying the land, the return of soil, and cultivation of the land. Join us on Wednesday, February 7 for our next Earth Matters winter webinar in which our host, Robert Thorson, will share the tales of the stones that make up the stone walls of New England and the Northeast.
Robert Thorson is a midwestern native turned northwestern geologist turned northeastern academic. His primary scholarly interest targets the physical relationships between humans and their landscapes, especially the intersections of historical archaeology, humans as geophysical and geochemical agents, environmental history, and American literature. His public engagement involves journalism, books, podcasts, videos, committee work, and consulting. His original and continuing research programs include archaeological geology, paleo-limnology, and neo-tectonics.
The DLC's Earth Matters webinar series is sponsored by LaBella Associates.
