Why don't you just rent a modest house for a year, rest for a few months and take your time in buying your new RV and looking for a permanent place in Larry's Zone . A rushed decision is a bad decision!

P.S. A mobile home trailer is a depreciable item. Your insurance on the loan is a "Actual Cash Value" policy. It's easy to get underwater with your mortgage. In the insurance industry, we would jokingly call them "Tornado Decoys".

Almost started crying when I watched this and your previous video. 😁 We are about 1-1/2 yrs (or there about) from retirement. We have purchased our used RV and have already started the improvements designed to "make it our own". Where the tears come is the search for land on the east coast from South Carolina down to Florida and also west coast as well (gulf of mexico). The real estate boom during the illness era that starts with a "C" 😉appears to still be alive and well. Our original thought was to find a place to retire to however that has now shifted to trying to pull off the full time RVers gig with a home base. With this in mind will be following you guys with lots of interest and thoughts of support on your success!!!! Best of luck.

Larry, sorry to hear about your illness. 4 years ago my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Had a bone marrow transplant in June 2021. All was well and she went into remission. Then Drs thought it would be a. good idea to inoculate her foe Covid. Two weeks later Guillian Beret Syndrome hit her.. Since then she is on IVIG , now stretch out infusions to every six weeks. Works wonderfully.. Miracle stuff. Thank goodness for good insurance.. Our bills have added up to over $2,000,000. She is doing well enough that this summer we are looking forward to some road trips.. Best of luck to you in your road to recovery. We have decided to switch to a Class C From dragging a trailer. Still in planning stage as of yet

We bought 8.5 acres in Washington Parish Louisiana 2 years ago for $42.5k. With 2 acres cleared, driveway, RV pad, well, septic system, and a 106'x56' building pad, we are in it for around $80k. We are planning to build a Barndo, 50'x100' split 50/50. Our 5th wheel will be parked inside as we work on the interior. So, it can be done, even if we have to do the building in two builds.

Sounds like you are coming along great on your new exit/enter/exit plan, especially with all the obstacles (life’s bumps)! What a blessing to have chosen the correct fulltime insurance, where you are getting what you paid. Kinda like an investment! I’m sure you already aware of the savings you will have in real-estate taxes by buying a mobile home. We sold our “big dream” home in 2021 and the new owners are paying almost double in real estate taxes. We actually did a five year downsizing plan…..which included an exit plan. We bought raw land in Perry FL and just finished water well, septic and electric and pulled in with the 5th wheel 2 days ago and loving it! We also have an acre in Ohio with a mobile home, where we are residents of, with our adult son. We are now ready to start traveling the United States….yehaw!!!!!! It was a long 5 years, with many life bumps along the way. We would do it over again in a heartbeat! Good luck at the Tampa show….wish we could be there! ❤🙏

Establishing a home base is a wise decision. I recall spotting some tiny houses in a UA-cam video from a Florida RV show. You might want to consider a tiny house if they are more affordable than mobile homes. Both options are solid. It would be interesting to see if there are any budget-friendly campgrounds close to the necessary medical facilities. If that's the case, you could broaden your search to include places that allow you to park and live in a Class C under a carport. Best of luck with everything. Traveling Robert found a nice area in Perry. BTW:
Progressive was outstandingly helpful when I lost a boat at the dock during a storm two years ago. I have insured my RV with them, and any future Cape Dory I purchase will be covered by them as well.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  5 місяців тому +2

      David,
I would love to buy a tiny home. Unfortunately, many places require a certain size. Plus, they cost so much more than a mobile home 😞
We are already in an inexpensive campground. But they always have the right to have you leave.
We want security- a place we know we can go to.
I’ve seen the place Traveling Robert has. Looks nice.
But we are moving in another direction
      We appreciate all the suggestions,

we bought an acre outside Perry florida..had to clear the property our selves .we had the septic put in a couple years ago ..we had to clear the area from the camper to the road for the electric pole .( Which was about 100 ft long and 10 feet wide so the electric lines could be put on the pole..as you said its a jungle in florida and we used machetees to help clear the jungle....this was right after the hurricane IDALIA hit..now we have trees down all over the property but thankfully none hit our 40 ft fifth wheel..so we will be cleaning up downed trees for the next few years...We do have a washer in the camper so we put a small shed with a dryer in it so i dont have to go to the laundry mat..we just put a deck on the entire length of the fifth wheel..we spend 6 months in florida and the other 6 months at our home ..we couldnt afford to have people come in and do all the work we have done cause we live solely on our retirement..well cost 3200...electric cost about 1200 total ..and septic 3800..drive way about 800 just to clear a path for the camper to put in..we are done for this season..still want to do more to the site but theres next year....

You’ve both done so much thinking in the last few weeks. Nice that you had the insurance written up to pay everything. I can never understand how the ins. Companies always have the right to hold us hostage, move out and you get your money…. A catch 22!

Make sure you fully understand the difference between a “manufactured” home and a “modular” home. They can look similar. But the manufactured home is built to a far less stringent code than a modular home. They are typically placed on post and piers where a modular is typically placed on a concrete foundation. The modular is considered appreciating real estate where a manufactured home is a depreciating asset.

In February (snowstorm when we left) heading to Lake Havasu in Arizona to meet friends for president’s week fireworks celebration. We stopped overnight in Vegas, then left early morning. We were on Route 66 when suddenly the trailer comes detached from the truck w/safety chains still attached it yanks the back of the truck sideways and causing sparks from tongue to spray like a fireball. I use the bumper to slow down the trailer as it rams us till finally stopped. My wife beating on me out of fear till then. At that point the trailer was totaled. If you’re looking for a land, get together with a Real estate broker if you buy the land raw there’s usually A county assessment if you build a house on it or put a mobile home the last I heard it’s probably $1500-$3000 depending on the County /location if there’s a dwelling on the house that fee has been paid, which will save you in the long run. Even if you tear the mobile home down
Also, check with your realtor see if there are mobile home parks that you own the land if you can find A mobile home park where you own the land and only paying HOA in the land/home county tax
Here in Cocoa In my case I own the land on a single wide HOA is 115 a month and $320 a year on taxes utilities are normal
do not try to go into a mobile home park and then pay the HOA as well as a monthly lot land rental You’d be looking at 900 and up it’ll nickel and dime you to death
Another thing you might consider look5 or 8 or 9 miles outside the city limits you’re city code Usually get more lenient, and may be more to your liking /// you just might have to watch out for the neighbors cow Grazing on your front lawn 🐄🐏🦃

Personal suggestion. Get your money, buy a used RV, (1-3 years old, 34 foot) A towable Camper RV. Not 5th wheel. Those are reasonable. Bank the rest. not a good idea to spend 10s of thousands of dollars on RVs. 18 to 20 thousand is good. Those are easier to move in and out of campgrounds. I like your videos. Hope you keep it up. (Side note):. Some healthcare plans offer health insurance that is not state specific. I have HAP. They sent a member card along with a second card containing instructions to a healthcare facility to speed billing and such. First time I ever saw that. But it works. I had an issue 100 miles from home, and that extra card made it so simple for figuring out who paid what.

We spoke to code enforcement in a county in Florida. Even though they say "mobile" home is allowed. We were told we could not put anything as a home base of it has wheels.

Stephen, great point. Every county has different rules. We have all the rules for the property we put an offer on. Unfortunately, we have to get a bit bigger mobile home to put on the land.

I agree with renting RV’s, many are not only way too expensive to rent but all the additional costs makes it prohibiting, at least for me. And as a Floridian I can say that Florida is one of the most unfriendly States for RV’ing unless you are at a campground.

It’s crazy what they get when renting out an RV 😳

You don't "have to keep" anything. Try asking those who would inherit, what they want. You would be surprised. Most of the current generation, do not want old family things. They have their own decor style and in some cases it is minimalism. We are currently cleaning out our attic. I take pictures and send them to the group chat. Does anyone care? Some stuff yes, most stuff, we consider keepsakes, family heirlooms, no. I also know we are not alone, in this revelation.

Diann, yes. We went through this when we sold our house 4 years ago.
But we knew we wouldn’t be full time forever. So I’m glad we kept what we did.

Put your belongings in short term storage and get a new rv and keep going. 👍 Never keep long term storage because it keeps growing and cost money. 😊 OK 👌 A modular home is a great happy medium.

Where I live they set the manufactured home on a concrete foundation and then they have the ability to ad a two or three car garage to the manufactured home so when they get done it looks like a stick built house but it's not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also by doing that you can walk right out your back door right into your garage with out going out side !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
