Thank you so much for your complete honesty. I recently purchased this UHQR 45 and had to have it replaced by Acoustic Sounds because of both excessive static and noise. I've watched dozens of reviews and everyone raved about its "perfect" sound. No one mentioned anything at all about the issues that are clearly there. Glad I found your video. TY

Great review and so informative! This is more in depth than I’ve seen from anyone regarding this Kind of Blue release. I have the 33 but I will not be buying the 45. Anyways, keep up the good work.

Great vid. As you point out. Each record has its own issues.

Great stuff, Jason. I totally appreciate the perspective you bring to this whole thing - the various mixes, and pressings, and digital steps. I think it's safe to say that if the technology we have today was around in 1950s that the records we think of now as the "originals" would've sounded vastly different. I don't see anything wrong with trying to get the most information you can off of the original tapes, and using the best tools, technology, vinyl, etc. to make a product that allows us to hear that information. We're lucky to have the original tapes or, in this case, 20-year old metalwork so we can try to make the original even better. I suspect that in 10, 20, or 30 years, there will be more better technology and I hope I'm around to hear the differences (and can afford to buy it!).

I had AP send me 3 versions of the 33, all had the distortion on the third track, but in different places, one of them was
listened too by QC, and they did not catch it, I thought it might be resolved by the 45 version, nope. I don't know why this is so. The 45 version is amazing, but the distortion on Blue in Green is a major disappointment. In a way, I'm happy to hear you have it also, it was making me question my system.
    Thanks

I received my 45 today. I washed it and used my anti static brush. Sides one and two were very crackly. Mind you, I wash by hand instead of a multi thousand dollar ultrasonic cleaner, but I was not pleased with the surface noise. I hope it is just static that will dissipate and that’s not a permanent sound feature.

Great review. I listened to this for the first time today. I've had the MOFI 45 since it came out but ordered the 33 UHQR about a month ago from Discogs after the MOFI scandal. The 45 was announced while I was waiting for delivery so I pre-ordered that too. I figured I'd leave the 33 sealed until I decided whether to keep it.
You answered all my concerns about the noisy vinyl and why I thought the mix sounded strange. No other reviewer has even mentioned these anomalies.
I thought the vinyl was noisier than the Hendrix Experienced UHQR. My Vpi record cleaner didn't help so I actually started watching some ultrasonic reviews. Since you attribute the noise to the vinyl I'll save my pennies.
Do you think the MOFI one step vinyl is a better formula? I don't have any yet but will soon since I won an auction over the weekend

I've found that compound to be quieter in general, yes.
