Thank you, guys, for a great interview. Yes, Q was a talented producer, but the kid who said he could do
Thriller was definitely NOT Michael Jackson. Nobody had the magnitude of musical talents and gifts of
Michael. Q & MJ had a top-notched team including you, Matt Forger. Thank you for being such a
dedicated "friend" of Michael. *****Rest in Peace, Michael*****

Basically to go platinum, and, to dominate, and consume the market that - in the global marquee tourist attraction for dreamers, dreams, and production block buster events- which, creates markets, says, every, thing. It's like going platinum inside, Disney, world - you know the rest of the world is going to love it. Thats how I interpreted that, and how someone could be overwhelmed fathoming that - and how Quincy an old timer aristocrat by that time was basically saying- we won the hearts of Hollywood hills, the surfers in the beach, and the kids from Compton - as well as the critics in between - this things going to permeate.

I give Q and Rod more credit for “Off The Wall”, but I think Thriller was more MJ. Q also produced Donna Summer right before Thriller. Her album had the same slick production polish but it was all Q. Not the same energy Donna was known for delivering. For me, it showed how MJ, Q and Rod were perfect fits and Q and Rod were better at working with male artist.

I used to think the same until i listened to MJ's home demo of "Dont stop till you get enough". which already had the rhythm and melody in it with even the glass bottle sound which remained in the final production. Not taking anything away from Q and Rod but MJ was the lightning rod that made it and the beautiful finishing touches added by Q and Rod. im sure that was also the case with "Working Day and Night" also written by MJ. A home demo of that song probably in his vault somewhere.

@@rhuiden4086 Agee that demo was all MJ. But the total package included the signature songs written by Rod Temperton. Rock With You, Off The Wall and Thriller. Q orchestrated the perfect match up of MJ and Rod. The Q produced albums were focused and satisfying. MJ's later albums lacked the same resolution without the contributions of Rod and Q.

I was 17 going on 18 when it came out, it took off quite slow from memory, Girl is Mine was nice but no video to kick it into overdrive, Billie Jean and Beat It kicked ass and then with The Thriller video it was off to the races, I've never seen a phenomenon like it before or since, considering MJ and J5 were passè by mid to late 70s it was amazing, it is perfection, if I were to take off 1 song it would likely be Girl is Mine, it's a bit of an anomaly imo, gotta feel sorry for the kids with today's Muzak, they missed out, it's easier than ever to record music but very little stands out....Grammy Albums Rumours, Thriller, Random Access Memories and in 2023 Harry Styles from No Direction, lord help me.
