Hi Sarah! Hi Kyuho! OMG! Guys! I’m super excited for you guys to go to Japan! And with Kyuho’s whole family! I can’t wait! I haven’t been back to see my family in over 30 years. I’ve been moderating for a few Japanese UA-camrs’ that share travel and food all around Japan for the past 6 years, so so many things are natsukashi (nostalgic) for me. I will definitely take you guys up on your offer with Rosetta Stone. Where I’m fluent in understanding Japanese, I need to ramp up on my speaking abilities. Thank you for sharing!
I absolutely love looking at ALL of the amazing side dishes whenever you guys go to Sandeulhae. It’s the sliding table that blows my mind every time! Why can’t any Korean restaurants do that here in LA? 😊
I’m so sorry that your adjustment has been harder for you this time around. Sarah, I have always been so touched at how you left home, not to move to another province within Canada, or a US state, but to another country. My father brought my mom to the US, from Japan, back in 1956. My heart always hurts for you when you have to say ‘so long’ to your family. Thank God, for social media-FaceTiming and text messaging. I know it’s not the same as face-to-face, but it helps, when one is homesick. You’re so blessed to be loved by Kyuho’s whole family, and you’ve come to embrace Korea beautifully. I love the life that you and Kyuho have built for yourselves. Thank you both for sharing each of your families’ and your lives with us!

We’re super excited too! ☺️ I (Sarah) am pretty rusty with my Japanese, but hopefully I’ll be able to refresh my memory enough to get through daily life stuff during our trip 😅
Returning after such a beautiful summer in Canada was definitely quite the challenge, but we always think how lucky we were to be able to experience that trip in the first place 🇨🇦 Seriously, we’re so grateful for FaceTime!

I also have family abroad. This year I went on a trip to Taiwan with my sister whom I hadn’t seen for more than a year. After getting back home after that trip, I had major blues feelings. But what helped was constant reminder that I was lucky to make that trip happen. And be grateful for the memories made. 😊

Despite doing a lot of international travel for a number of years, the only time I had jet-lag was going from the southern US to Sweden in early January because of the insane difference in daylight. The sun would barely rise above the horizon and then start setting at like 2:30 in the afternoon. 😵That trip felt like a fever dream.

My wife and I (married 41 years, met my Korean wife in Daegu) go back and forth from home in US (Virginia) twice a year in recent years.
Our adjustment is easiest in Korea, the US is more difficulty. The US seems to follow the rule of one day for each hour of time difference. However, when arriving in Korea we adjust within the first few days. I think our structured tour/visit schedule forces the change.

I’ve always been quite fortunate with jet lag, though my worst jetlag was my longest time difference & only when I came home so think it’s something about being home & your body just letting everything come through, stress, tiredness, jet lag, all of it.
Have a fantastic family time in Tokyo, might I suggest the Ghibli museum if you’ve never been? You can’t film going round it, you have to book tickets in advance & it’s not right in the centre of Tokyo but it’s well worth it if you are a Ghibli fan!

I absolutely have to readjust after being home with my parents. I spent two months in the US over the summer and it really, really messed with me. I love being with my family, but I didn't love how I felt after. It was almost like I didn't have to live my life, which was weird? I'm an adult and it felt like I was a kid enjoying my summer vacation. No responsibilities, it's like my adult life didn't exist. When I returned home it took me a few weeks to get my bearings and feel like myself again. Being abroad for so long (11 years now) has created a really big divide between my life in Sweden and my life in the US.

Also i programmed at night gradually turn off. Since i always go to sleep very late, i did that to force myself go to sleep earlier. Also this bulb helped me a lot last year when i broke my leg and for 6 months was very very helpful, that i don't need to get up and try to reach it to turn off, cause the cable is quite short.

Now that he fiddled with that little light, next we (i😅) want to see him tweek a chandelier (ikea type). Change it to dimming-able and adding a power interrupter in the cord as to not have to rely on plugging it and out to turn in on and off or to rely on the light switch on the wall. These little "fixings" show you how much people have forgotten about basic utilitarian knowledge with things around the house which make (too) many of us reliant on consumerism and the capitalism economy.
I giggled when you spoke about that "little" drawer filled with odds and ends. I reside in an apartment and i have a dedicated bedroom and half of a locker just for that. Mind you the vast majority of things are equipment such as, hammers, hammer drills, cordless power tools, air compressor and many more.
Since I've been living in my place for so long it is financially better for me to purchase and execute renovations or modifications on my end as the expense; while expensive on the short term, will always come out cheaper on the long term in comparison to having the landlord doing it and increasing my rent to cover part of the expense.
And the best part of that, you can customize it to your personal taste, whereas the landlord will always choose the best cost effective finishes.
My landlord has been replacing carpet floorings to sticky vinyl tiles, which are great if the subfloor was radiant (🤬 which they are not). Therefore I've been investing into 3/4 inch 100% 🇲🇶 hardwood flooring. I use two types firstly bird's eye maple on the perimeter as much of my furniture are generally situated there thus requiring a very hard wood (scratch resistant) and in the center I've installed yellow Birch. Helps increase the light reflection into the dwelling without having it glare into my eyes as white walls tend to do. #1 mistake of people is to paint their walls white "hoping" this will help brightening it up. Sunlight generally shines on the floor (unless living in Alert ot Antarctica😂, when it has risen.

Yes…so? Perhaps Kyuho’s sister and brother in law couldn’t get time off of work except during 추석, and also the kids are in school. They can’t just get up and leave any time of year. And this gives everyone a good excuse to get away than stay and serve bunch of extended family members in the countryside like Kyuho’s mom used to. That is their prerogative and I hope they have a great trip! 😊
