Thankyou for the detailed reply --now I finally understand ---gracias !
You make it look easier than it is so far for me! Thanks for the tutorial.
Whoaaaa the feather is the whole point ! Otherwise ....it's just a well Pen
It is historically accurate getting rid of the feathers
Amazing video, thanks so much for sharing this! 😊👍🏻
Now I understand "He has cut my pen" Is a sentence for a child to read; from the The American Spelling Book 1807
Cool.. I like it !!
I'll give it a go. I did one and it was fine but now it only works upside down or I get 2 lines. Lucky I have a 7 year old who picks up every feather he sees. Loads of practice pieces. Just don't tell him.
Cool
I think that you should have kept some of the fledgling part of the feather because thats what it a quill pen.
How was the pen held in the hand, cut side up or cut side down?
I've been saving my macaws feathers for years, some are over 10 years old. Can thy be used? Also are new or old feathers better?
Ty, much love to all.
Just try it. You'll find out pretty quick.
@@tsm688 I did, the old ones work. Unfortunately I'm not skilled at cutting a quill so mine has a small tip.
:)
I have asked this question dozens of times --no answer ! ---HOW DOES THE INK STAY INSIDE /ON THE NIB )))---DO U YOU ADD A BIT OF FOAM ---(capillary action ) or metal in the quill hollow bit ?
This type of pen is meant to be consistently re-dipped as the ink runs out. Usually one dip will last for roughly one to five sentences depending on the length of sentence, size of script, and width of the pen tip. The broader the tip width, the faster the ink will run out.
It’s a type of dip pen, not a fountain pen. The ‘fountain’ pen gets its name partly because of its re-fillable design for holding ink, which was considered a major innovation in the late 1800s. Modern pens reflect a further development of that innovation.
Great simple instructions but I kept wanting to shout "sharpen your knife!"
For me it's more about the conditioning of the feather
Also he's using a quilling knife
Hi
I found this by searching the name I make music under.
Ok... don't leave us hanging... what's your "pen" name? (Pun obv intended but seriously curious! )
Can I use a eagle feather
If it is thick enough. It should be fine though.
I'd like to think that's what Thomas Jefferson used
Please don't. Eagle feather is sacred. Not just pretty (or symbol of power or something). Feathers are an earned honor or a gift from family or Heaven. (& technically you could get in several kinds of trouble - since eagles are still fairly rare if not everywhere officially listed any more as endangered. The feathers are Reserved for communities of Native Americans, given as rare and needed gifts, used in ceremonies and dance gatherings and For Freedom of Religion, family continuity, .... not just decoration.
@@moony5097 Utilitarianism isn't everything!
@@bigbird4481 I'd like to think Jefferson knew better than to do that!
