As for commando they do have something special that requires a painful process to obtain . thus conclusion if you're train in cqc you'll definitely feel you went through the toughest , same for the rest. side note regulars from guards , commandos and other tough units do fluke the ranger course.
Is this like the delta force type of unit? I hope their weapons will include more specific assault rifles like those with picattiny rails for sights that will work better for CQB than those standard Aug type optics.
Not sure if we would equate it to Delta but it is a specialised infantry unit. Another specialised non-spec-ops infantry unit would be Guards, but that in particular consists of mostly 2-year conscripts, unlike this ADF which is mostly regulars who just signed on after conscription. They have HK16 and the modular/p-rail version of the SAR21 which they will be trained in later phases.
The training is definitely challenging, not too different when I went through the SAFINCOS training back in the early 80's. Back then, we were all tough dudes too, we had to be, as we were trained by some fanatical insane career soldiers in the singapore army. However, as tough the training as it seems to be, it will remain to be seen when real bullets start flying, artillery shells start raining down, when you seen your comrades in a army humvee gets blown up, whether these contemporary NSF soldiers will really stand and fight. today, most singaporeans , especially the new generation, enjoy a very easy affluent life. Singapore is economically and politically very stable, for the past decades. As compared with say the Israeli's , whose country is under a real constant threat of annihilation from surrounding muslim countries, they will fight as they have no choice. The same goes for Ukrainians, they fight because they do not have a choice. Singaporeans, the young men today, not so sure.
PKM would be nice. That weapon with bipod weighs only 7.5kg compared to GPMG's weight of 11.8kg, super reliable and easy to clean as well. Too bad it's only in 7.62x54R, which is the Russian equivalent to the GPMG's 7.62x51 NATO.
