My Testimony
Where do I start? Do I start all the way back to the age of 11? (I am now 56). Or do I start in 1995, age 29, which was the last of my comings back to the Lord?
To make a long story short I’ll start in 1995, maybe even to the days of 1994. I had been out doing my own thing for a good 2 years, caught up in my old life’s ways; drinking; drugging; smoking. I was dating and living with a bass player, in a band called Troubled Spirit. I lived there half of the week when my 4 year old was with his father.
It was during this time that the Lord started drawing me back to himself. This first instance was the Halloween of 94. Some of us were down in the in the basement, hanging out, my 4 year old was there too. All of a sudden someone came storming down the stairs with a scary custom on horrifying my son. The Lord spoke to my heart and said “Is this how you’re raising him to know me?” You see I had prayed for a child, preferably a boy, after I had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy. Part of my prayer was that I would raise him to know the Him( The Lord ).
Sadly that wasn’t my turning point. It took many more months and incidences before surrendering.
I fell back into the “finding a new guy and leaving the one I was with” thing. It was during this time that the Lord broke through once again and spoke to my heart as I was heading home from work. If anyone is familiar with Shady Grove Rd in Rockville MD then you know what kind of road I’m talking about, 4 lanes on this side and 4 lanes on that side. I was stopped at a red light when I looked across the road and saw a man and a woman frantically trying to get this big fluffy white dog back in the car. The Lord spoke to my heart and said “Do you see that dog?” I said “Yes, Lord.” He said “That’s you…. Do you see those two trying to get it back in the car?” “Yes, Lord” “That’s my angels trying to keep you from hurting yourself”
I’m not sure how much time went between the morning of February 15th and that incident but by that time “Godly sorrow” had worked its works of repentance in me and I found myself wanting to make my way to The Mercy Seat of God. I called the old church I use to go to and asked if they still were having prayer meetings in the morning. They said yes and I made my way there. It was good to see everyone but I really needed to find a place to fall on my face and cry out literally and completely.
This was the second time I repented from leaving the church. The first time I went out was between the ages of 15 and 21. The second time was between the ages of 26 and 29.The first time I came back I was ready to surrender everything and get right back in there, whole heartedly. It was altogether different this last time though. I took my time and wasn’t so quick to stop doing this or that or start doing this or that. I waited on the Lord to convince me of certain things instead of acting according to past experiences.
About a month later, March 2oth 1995, the first day of spring I went to trim my bangs up and I felt the Lord speak to my heart another time. “I wish you wouldn’t.” He said to my heart. “Ok, but I don’t know why.” From there I went to the closet to find something to wear.”I tell you what, from this day forward I won’t cut my hair anymore and it will be a sign from me to you that I haven’t gone out into the world anymore. Not just to you but to good angels and bad angels too…. Just like you put the rainbow in the sky as a sign that you wouldn’t destroy the world with a flood anymore, my hair will be a sign to you that I won’t destroy myself anymore by going out into the world.”
That’s my story. The first 12 years I continued coloring, curling the ends and blow drying my hair. I stopped coloring it in 2006. In 2008, after receiving a brochure in the mail from a minister’s wife who came and visited us in Lambsburg Va. where we had our own ministry, I stopped blow drying and curling it. In 2013 I hadn’t cut my hair for 18 years and it seemed to not grow anywhere past my waist. I had prayed and asked the Lord to allow it to grow as long as my husband would like it to be and before I moved back to Delaware in 2018 it was past my rump. I started working at a restaurant called the Doghouse and wore my hair up most the time, washing it once a week except in the summer time if I sweated too much. Since then my hair has grown 2 feet and seems to have stopped at the middle of my calves. Must be something in the water.
To God Be Any and All Glory, Praise and Honor, for it has only been through His saving, keeping power and Faithfulness that I stand before you today.
