      What do you use your 221 for, foxes? I tried 22 lr and 17 hmr before this, but had trouble with precision in the available ammo lots. The benefit of the 221 is reloading and thus control over precision. These birds are too much work to waste opportunities due gear.

    hei fra Alta Finnmark. har du noen gode tips til meg om frosne fingre. denne jakt sesongen har jeg brukt en formue på di håndvarme posene. jeg har vært ute på fjellet og har vært så kald på fingrene at jeg gikk bare på 2 timmers tur. jeg har fått mine første 7 ryper denne sesongen siden jeg begynte å jakte i 2017. og ja jeg er dårlig å skyte med hagle. mye bom skudd.

    • @THLR
      @THLR  9 місяців тому +1

      Har i grunnen ingen supertips. Tynne hansker som Mechanix, Granqvist Desert glove evt tynne ullvanter, forsterk dette med pulsvanter fra Aclima. Over dette har jeg Devold Nansen ullvotter eller Monsen fleecevotter og på toppen et par romslige skallvotter. I tillegg er skistavene mine 10cm kortere for bedre blodsirkulasjon til hendene og enklere håndtering i bratt terreng. Når alt blir helt forjævlig kaldt går jeg en periode med armene rett ned og tvinger blodsirkulasjon i hendene ved å åpne/knytte hånden. Ingen magiske triks, bare rutiner.

I usually clock in 10 to 16 km in a day, it depends a whole lot on snow conditions. Question: I see you back off from those reindeer, but wouldn’t circling back to their snow trail give you more scrapes in the snow where the ptarmigans like to feed? Also, I assume these young reindeer are wild and not part of someone’s herd?

    • @THLR
      @THLR  10 місяців тому

      You are spot on with the scrapes, I have hunted like that on previous occasions. This far north all the reindeer are (semi) domesticated and herded. It is the southern mountain platous that have the wild population. As it was, they were spread out on then southern slope I wanted to investigate so not really any way for me to hunt there without giving the reindeer a push. It's just daft to create a hunter/herder conflict becausebI want to bag a few birds. It's their livelyhood.

    • @THLR
      @THLR  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah so you got the bullet info. The nordic FMJ's seems to be designed for meat hunting and they don't tumble. Amongst the bird hunters, Sako 50gr FMJ (I didn't get this bullet to shoot), Lapua 55gr FMJ and Norma 55gr FMJ are well known for just punching a hole through. The trick I was taught was to develop a load with the Sierra 52/53gr Matchking (precise and cheaper) and then switch to the Lapua bullet. The tent is a Venor Gamme as seen on articlavvo.no. An alternative is to order a pop-up icefishing tent and modify it with a stove insert. Anchored properly, these tents also provide good comfort. When you are this far/long backcountry it is really nice to be able to stand upright and properly dry clothes without it being a major task.

      No incredible as it is, this rifle hasn't lost zero once - despite me falling on average once per day. As well as the normal LocTite on screws, all parts of the scopemount is also bedded and "chemically bonded" with some sort of superglue (sorry, I don't have the specs, didn't do the job myself)

    Didn't finish watching video, too disappointed in seeing machines to get into wilderness & bring the luxuries of home into the wilderness to & to make hunting easier, as if the firearms & optics we have do not make it easy enough. This just seems to be the mentality, & most of all the laziness, of the younger generations, with disregard to everything but their own.

      The logistics makes this trip impossible without a machine. The numbers don't add up; time available minus 2-3 days of skiing to destination (each way) = no trip. I have to use motorized transport to get to ANY of the destinations I travel to. So we definitely have different views there.

      It's simple, do not use the car then… You are just as lazy then

      @@sundbergskidan I fly... going by car would be 30-35 hours. Walking strikes me as unrealistic...🤷‍♂️

      Eric, if those few items look like luxuries, then you must be from Sparta. Compare and contrast with a Ritz-Carlton. 😂 Better with just barefoot with a loincloth and a Lapua stocking hat? 😊 A snowmobile is as close to “Leave no trace” backcountry motorized travel as you’re going to get.

      @@THLR it wasn't directed at you. I commented on ericrumpel3105's comment. The scooter is for transport, just like the car. What I meant is that &ericrumpel3105 might as well stop using the car as transportation, to the hunting area 😁
