Good job the amazing views and brilliant cinematography makes up for the skiing proficiency ha ha. I don't miss skiing on frozen snow. I could hear the edges shrieking in pain.
My skiing is shit! 🙈 Ice with the occasional soft, grainy sinkhole or hidden rock doesn't help either. 😅. Well bruised after this trip, still have some coloured spots where the shin snaps into the ice cap once the ski go submarine...

I hope so too! At least I've made lifestyle changes to try and move in that direction. Nothing dramatic, just trying to walk more, sleep better and eat healthier.

What do you use your 221 for, foxes? I tried 22 lr and 17 hmr before this, but had trouble with precision in the available ammo lots. The benefit of the 221 is reloading and thus control over precision. These birds are too much work to waste opportunities due gear.
@@THLR Foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and hopefully beavers very soon. My rifle does well with 53gr. flat-base hollow-points, and it makes neat holes. FMJ ammo is illegal where I hunt, but these Hornady Match HPs don't open up much.
@@kennethkeough3622 same as mine then. Shot the best with Sierra Matchking, the flatbase version (52 or 53gr??) I tried coyote hunting once in Wyoming, was instantly hooked and that is definetively something I would do more of if possible. Good luck with your season!

Not really cold, we routinely have temps down to or below -30°C here, but pn this trip it was approaching 0 several days. As I understand it, 221 Fireball is essentially a 223 developed for the Remington XP100 bolt pistol, my use and bullet choice is solely down to legal restrictions

I do! I am a brass hoarder and bought as much as I could affford/ get my hands on when production stopped. With the amount of shooting I do with this rifle, I have enough to last my liftetime. It is possible to form brass from 222/223 but that is not something I want to do...

Har i grunnen ingen supertips. Tynne hansker som Mechanix, Granqvist Desert glove evt tynne ullvanter, forsterk dette med pulsvanter fra Aclima. Over dette har jeg Devold Nansen ullvotter eller Monsen fleecevotter og på toppen et par romslige skallvotter. I tillegg er skistavene mine 10cm kortere for bedre blodsirkulasjon til hendene og enklere håndtering i bratt terreng. Når alt blir helt forjævlig kaldt går jeg en periode med armene rett ned og tvinger blodsirkulasjon i hendene ved å åpne/knytte hånden. Ingen magiske triks, bare rutiner.

In the extremely unlikely event of me visiting Aus, I'll take you up on that. I have hunted reindeer twice. They are migratory and you have to be lucky with the wind, or they are simply not there. I have not been lucky and that hunt is too difficult to plan for me.

Men eg syns d e dårlig me utvalg av kjøpeammo i fmj med litt tyngde (70-80gr), finns mykje i 50-55gs, men d blir stor fart på di kulen. Så må nok lade sjøl, og finne kule som passe bøsja mi, og gir fine kulehåll. Forslag og tips mottas🙂
Lapua og Norma 55gr er vel de tyngste FMJ egnet for matvilt, Sako sin versjon veier 50gr. Kan dessverre ikke hjelpe deg med lading, men prøv Kammeret.no der er det garantert noen som allerede vet.

I tend to do the breast filet like a rare steak. But will also try them in an asian souo this year. Just put 5 family meals in the freezer today. I usually clock in 10 to 16 km in a day, it depends a whole lot on snow conditions. On a shit day you'll be on "banana skis" in deep snow up through the trees and you'lln spend 2 hours on what should be 40 minutes.
Happy Easter to you as well. The scope is Leupold mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 with the Gunwerks RH1 MOA reticle. It's a decent scope, let's me see the white-white nuances, very compact and fairly lightweight. However, Leupold scopes arrive in Europe at a different pricepoint than in US. Looking at current prices here, there's just no way I'd spend €3500 on that scope - especially not when my Kahles is €2000.
Question: I see you back off from those reindeer, but wouldn’t circling back to their snow trail give you more scrapes in the snow where the ptarmigans like to feed? Also, I assume these young reindeer are wild and not part of someone’s herd?
You are spot on with the scrapes, I have hunted like that on previous occasions. This far north all the reindeer are (semi) domesticated and herded. It is the southern mountain platous that have the wild population. As it was, they were spread out on then southern slope I wanted to investigate so not really any way for me to hunt there without giving the reindeer a push. It's just daft to create a hunter/herder conflict becausebI want to bag a few birds. It's their livelyhood.
Love all your videos. Any progress with the 22 Hornet rifle. I have a very accurat Sako M78 which i use for capercaili(toppjakt) in Sweden. handloading rws brass, rws 46gr SP bullets and 13 gr Lil’gun. Bullet 0,020’’off the lands. 865 m/s. Average 10mm at 100m and about 1moa at 200m. At zero wind. The groups got more consistent when i shortened the barrell to 47 cm. Also using a Svemko nano suppressor.
Are you Canadian? Everyone else seems to use cap or beanie. Yes I enjoy this hat, sadly the fluffy ball on the top fell off. Only complaint I have is that it's acrylic, makes it painful to use on the coldest days. Eventually, I will make a reproduction of this hat in wool. BTW, the Kahles cap is made from 100% wool and has the perfect blend/thickness/weight for allround use...

Yeah so you got the bullet info. The nordic FMJ's seems to be designed for meat hunting and they don't tumble. Amongst the bird hunters, Sako 50gr FMJ (I didn't get this bullet to shoot), Lapua 55gr FMJ and Norma 55gr FMJ are well known for just punching a hole through. The trick I was taught was to develop a load with the Sierra 52/53gr Matchking (precise and cheaper) and then switch to the Lapua bullet. The tent is a Venor Gamme as seen on articlavvo.no. An alternative is to order a pop-up icefishing tent and modify it with a stove insert. Anchored properly, these tents also provide good comfort. When you are this far/long backcountry it is really nice to be able to stand upright and properly dry clothes without it being a major task.

No incredible as it is, this rifle hasn't lost zero once - despite me falling on average once per day. As well as the normal LocTite on screws, all parts of the scopemount is also bedded and "chemically bonded" with some sort of superglue (sorry, I don't have the specs, didn't do the job myself)
Didn't finish watching video, too disappointed in seeing machines to get into wilderness & bring the luxuries of home into the wilderness to & to make hunting easier, as if the firearms & optics we have do not make it easy enough. This just seems to be the mentality, & most of all the laziness, of the younger generations, with disregard to everything but their own.
The logistics makes this trip impossible without a machine. The numbers don't add up; time available minus 2-3 days of skiing to destination (each way) = no trip. I have to use motorized transport to get to ANY of the destinations I travel to. So we definitely have different views there.
Eric, if those few items look like luxuries, then you must be from Sparta. Compare and contrast with a Ritz-Carlton. 😂 Better with just barefoot with a loincloth and a Lapua stocking hat? 😊 A snowmobile is as close to “Leave no trace” backcountry motorized travel as you’re going to get.

Ocassionally, I hit. 2023/4 has been annus horribilis for the shooting.
Why no shot impact
Wind. The stubby bullets are very sensitive to wind and I didn't notice the wind on the first shot.
Is the bolt removal part of safety & law? I do this regardless to and from the range and hunting expeditions, ensures safety standards.

Scope Leupold mk 5 hd 3-18×44 Gunwerks RH1 reticle. Rifle Remington 700 with Lothar Walther 221 Fireball 1:12" in a Gunwerks Clymr stock and Atec suppressor.

No incredible as it is, this rifle hasn't lost zero once - despite me falling on average once per day. As well as the normal LocTite on screws, all parts of the scopemount is also bedded and "chemically bonded" with some sort of superglue (sorry, I don't have the specs, didn't do the job myself)

Didn't finish watching video, too disappointed in seeing machines to get into wilderness & bring the luxuries of home into the wilderness to & to make hunting easier, as if the firearms & optics we have do not make it easy enough. This just seems to be the mentality, & most of all the laziness, of the younger generations, with disregard to everything but their own.
The logistics makes this trip impossible without a machine. The numbers don't add up; time available minus 2-3 days of skiing to destination (each way) = no trip. I have to use motorized transport to get to ANY of the destinations I travel to. So we definitely have different views there.
It's simple, do not use the car then… You are just as lazy then

Eric, if those few items look like luxuries, then you must be from Sparta. Compare and contrast with a Ritz-Carlton. 😂 Better with just barefoot with a loincloth and a Lapua stocking hat? 😊 A snowmobile is as close to “Leave no trace” backcountry motorized travel as you’re going to get.
