A motorcycle carburetor is a crucial component that mixes air and fuel in precise proportions before delivering it to the engine for combustion. Here’s a simplified explanation of how it works:
1. Air Intake: When you twist the throttle, a valve opens to allow air to enter the carburetor.
2. Venturi Effect: Inside the carburetor, there is a narrow passage called the venturi. As air flows through the venturi, its speed increases, creating a low-pressure area.
3. Fuel Delivery: Connected to the venturi is a fuel jet that meters the amount of fuel entering the airflow based on engine demand (throttle position). The fuel is drawn in through the jet due to the low pressure created by the venturi effect.
4. Mixing: Air and fuel mix together in the carburetor’s mixing chamber. The amount of fuel entering the chamber is regulated by the throttle position and the jet size, ensuring the correct air-fuel ratio (typically around 14 parts air to 1 part fuel).
5. Combustion: The air-fuel mixture exits the carburetor through the intake manifold and enters the engine’s cylinders. There, it is compressed and ignited by a spark plug to generate power.
6.Adjustments: Carburetors have various adjustment screws (like idle mixture and idle speed screws) that allow fine-tuning of the air-fuel mixture for different conditions (idle, cruising, acceleration).
