    As a Black American Muslim, who was born in America, whose ancestors date back to chattel slavery. There is an understanding of the reality of the morality of America And it's history. We have experienced it first hand. Black American descendants of slavery have been dealt and survived the full brunt force of America and we have flourished to make it where we are today. My ancestors built this country, and it is my people's birthright, thats why we fight for our reparations. so we have a vested interest as Black Americans and More importantly as Muslims to hold this country accountable to what it says it is. As we have done throughout it's history.

      Assalam Aleikum. What reparations brother ? If you are simply speaking about freedom, you have it. Yes, there needs to be improvement. Allot. But if you are referring to financial reparations that many on the left speak of, that is nonsense. No American that exists today ever owned slaves. In Islam, we aren't responsible for the sins of others. That would apply to this matter. Modern Americans do not have to pay for the sins of their ancestors.

    • @DropLoc
      @DropLoc 2 місяці тому +9

      @@danielacevedo647 WaAlaykum Salaam akhi, a common misconception that people have is that when we call for reparations, we are directing it towards the american people. American Chattel slavery was an institution that was supported by the American government. Just like how today we still pay reparations to the Native Americans and the Jews, yet none of us alive today had anything to do with those atrocities. America wasn't even directly involved with the holocaust and we still give them reparations till this day. The United States of America was built on 400+ years of chattel slavery to build this country. A heinous, most inhumane form of slavery that not only enslaved a people, but their children and made them less than animals. Our monetary claim for reparations is based on field order 15 by president Lincoln during the civil war where freed slaves that joined the union were to be given 40 acres and mule of the seized land from the southern rebels. And this was actually put into place for a time until after Lincoln was assassinated, where Johnson pulled union troops from the south and left the emancipated people to the whims of the southern rebels. They then seized back much of the land from the few people that benefited from the field order and were then subjected to a new form of oppression under the Jim crow laws and much more. My people still feel the affects of slavery and post slavery to this day psychologically, physically, and economically. The evidence of the economic effects are clear when you observe the racial wealth gap where according to studies before covid, the median white family had over $140,000 in wealth. Whereas the median Black family had about $1400 in wealth, when you focus in on some states it is even negative for many people. My people were systemically pushed down for centuries. After so many years of oppression, the only way to counteract the lingering effects of that is to systemically counteract and uplift that to reverse the damage done. And at the end of the day, a debt owed is a debt owed. Rasulullah taught us to pay a worker before their sweat dried. My ancestors were forced to work for free for over 400 years and they are owed restitution for their work. That money that is owed is a part of our inheritance. I would recommend you read some more and actually listen to Black American scholars who speak on this, because they are way more versed in it than I am. Joe Bradford who is a certified shariah advisor in finance and has degrees in Islamic law did an entire article stating the Islamic position on Slavery reparations. Would definitely recommend reading it. joebradford.net/does-islamic-law-take-a-position-on-slave-reparations/

    Thank you for this podcast from two truly helpful voices in this current time. I am a DACA person living in America, brought legally from Algeria when I was 3 years old and became undocumented when I was very young. Through my siblings, my parents gained citizenship and I applied and got denied. I married a man who is also DACA. I am so resentful of the entire way that nation states are organized, and how they oppress people using borders and passport hierarchy and the like. Yes, guarding one's borders makes sense but within this current context, the US Empire must die in order for justice to actually occur both in Latin America, the neighbors of the US, and in the Muslim countries, the plaything of the US and Europe. I am leaving the USA but am quickly realizing that the struggle and difficulties I am facing in trying to settle elsewhere STILL have me facing the injustice of the West.

    The Ummah needs an Umar from the choice of Abu Jahl and Umar. One of the two superpowers must be pursuaded to cause of Allah. I believe now is the time for American Muslims to shine and build this future. Imagine the leading superpower on your side. USA needs Islam, otherwise it's on the path self destruction.
    Now analogy of this has happened before. Turks and Mongols, Turks entered Islam while Mongols largely stayed aloof. That time it was Muslims under mongols who made it happen.

    The host’s take on borders and immigration is underdeveloped. Yes on the country’s terms but if that country is or was an imperialist power that has wrecked the economic and social progress of other nations in their savage ventures abroad, they must make considerations in their immigration policies for the people from the places they’ve derailed through direct and covert interventions. People would much rather not have to uproot their entire lives and ways of being and migrate through immense hardship to western lands for opportunity. The opportunity should’ve been at home. The US and other western nations can’t just wash their hands of the problem they have created AND continue to maintain.

    In the UK, minority politicians who have won elections speak with Received Pronunciation (Jalal's accent), a prestigious accent historically associated with the upper class. This choice reflects how accent and education intersect to influence political perception and acceptance. Speaking in RP often grants these politicians an air of authority and credibility, helping bridge cultural and class divides in British society. However, some public figures fail to grasp the nuanced role that accent and class play in political success.
    Take Jalal, for instance, who promoted Akhmed Yakoob, a British-Pakistani lawyer with limited oratory skills. Despite Yakoob’s lack of polish and unsuccessful election run, Jalal continued to support him, missing the mark on the importance of RP in the UK’s political landscape. Jalal’s missteps extend beyond this: he presented flawed data on the 5Pillars podcast that ultimately benefited Labour, and he endorsed Butch Ware from the Green Party, which, despite Ware’s admirable qualities, has proven largely ineffective-even in a state like Michigan. Jalal predicted Democrats would lose votes to the Green Party, which turned out to be completely unfounded.
    While I am not pro-Trump and hold reservations about figures like Hamza Yusuf and his Zaytuna College, I recognize the college’s pragmatic approach to engaging Muslims pragmatically. Their strategy stands in stark contrast to Jalal’s ill-advised efforts; instead of making inroads for Muslims, he has endorsed candidates and parties without clear benefits or data to back his claims.
    In the political sphere, understanding both the class-driven nuances of RP and the pragmatic approach needed to win support is crucial. Jalal, however, has repeatedly promoted figures like Akhmed Yakoob and the Green Party without understanding these dynamics. Despite his intellect, Jalal embodies what Nassim Taleb calls an “intellectual yet idiot”-brilliant in some respects but lacking practical insight. I enjoy his podcast but find his political analysis lacking. If Jalal wishes to be effective, he should aspire to be a "Muslim Lex Fridman,"; just don't talk.

I felt that your perspective lacked the necessary critical approach. Moreover, during your interview with Dr. Ware you neither played the devil's advocate nor challenged Dr. Ware's points. This missed opportunity to push back sent the wrong message. (I missed your blog like many others).
      America, much like the Roman Empire, operates as a cultural rather than an ethno-centric empire. From an intelligence and defense standpoint, opposing U.S. influence from within the country is counterproductive. In a new era with shifting global dynamics, aligning with the U.S. could be crucial for reclaiming territories with significant Muslim populations currently under Chinese, Russian, or Indian influence. There may now be an opportunity for the U.S. to embrace these communities in a way that differs from the post-9/11 era.
