    I'm actually planning on working with FBI, Homeland, or us Marshalls...so I feel like EM would definitely look good. That's why I'm joining Airforce, for career experience. Also I'm getting certificates on Homeland security AND advanced international affairs once I'm in regardless of career. So thata super awesome to hear first hand that that afsc is equal to fema ..I figured that much (:

      EM is good to rack up your HazMat certificaitons. My friend got out as HazMat instructor qualified. But ended up going different direction in teaching Scuba Diving in Guam for like 20 years.. But Anotehr friend works at AFCESA (Mother ship of Civil Engineer). But it is ALOT of Plan Writting and Coordination. That is the daily grind. Also teaching Chem Warfare (gas chamber stuff)..

      same I have a criminal justice degree but was looking to have some additional training that would set me apart in the civilian world bc I was looking to go into federal law enforcement. But I feel like I’d score too low on the ASVAB for an intelligence job (I got a 74 on the practice test) so I was going to take security forces but I’ve heard nothing but bad things about that job lol....so now it’s back to the drawing board.This looks promising though and useful

    • @Snipedog1978
      @Snipedog1978 4 роки тому +1

      ebony crawford; there are three different parts of what EM does in the Air Force the first is what similar to what you see FEMA do, the next is HAZMAT responder, this is those individuals that put on protective gear and go and try and control hazmat releases. The last is the wartime aspect in which you are responsible for teaching base personnel how to wear gas masks and protective suits to,protect them from chemical weapon attacks. While not everything that is part of The em career field these are the main aspects. If you are someone who likes to troubleshoot and find solutions to unique problems, teach people to preform tasks, and are the type of individual who likes challenges this is a great Carrer field. If u have specifics about anything I mentioned please let me know.

      Is there a high demand for EM? Or would I have to do DEP to get it?

    • @Snipedog1978
      @Snipedog1978 4 роки тому

      Miriam Carpenter, there is always a requirement for EM troops but the exact demand is something you would have to ask about when u go to MEPS and talk to the career counselor. With everything going on right now and the slowdown in those going to basic and PCS /being on hold it is even harder to determine. But your chances might be good in getting EM and a good ship date.

      If you have already done your research on these jobs, why are you going open general? If your recruiter talked you into it than try and get them to just sign a contract into one of those jobs, otherwise open general will be literally anything the air force wants you to do. For open general, you do get to write a list of the jobs you want, but that's nowhere close to a guarantee. Most jobs except some medical ones can be signed in a contract to you before you ever go to bmt, and this is what you want. Also if you qualify for any aircrew jobs take those, even if you don't want to fly the pay, hours, community, and general lifestyle is worth it.
