    The scaling for the output tab is so nice to have now (since I do record at 1440p and stream at 1080p) even if it isn't a major increase in quality, it's still a little bump, especially coming from someone streaming using an AMD card. Just hope Twitch/OBS are able to implement AMD AV1/H265 options for streaming on twitch soon as well!

    Hey! Thanks for the great videos! Question about this scaling. I have a 1440p monitor and I game and stream on the same PC. To keep things simple with Twitch streaming, I've been doing a 1080p canvas and just Fit to Screen on all the game sources. Should I be changing my canvas to 1440p and rescaling now with these new filters or should I just leave it be?
    I mainly left it alone at 1080p canvas because when I change from PC gaming to my Nintendo Switch, its 1080p anyways. Wasn't sure if It would be great to upscale my Switch to 1440p to match my PC, or keep my PC down to 1080p to match my Switch.
    Hardware wise I'm using a Ryzen 7 7700X and I just got a 4080 Super.
    Thanks again! Love your videos! 😺

    Perhaps I had something misconfigured, or maybe tonemapping behavior is different in Window Capture vs Game Capture, but I found the new filter to be leaps and bounds better than the old ones. The old ones were always a bit over exposed and washed out, often getting the really saturated colors wrong. An example I can give are my emblems in Destiny, I use First to the Forge and Draconis Tetrachroma (these are very google-able), both emblems are very colorful. In the old filter Draconis would turn way too pink when it was supposed to be somewhere between pink and purple, and FTTF would become very pale as the filter struggled to reel in its near highlight levels of brightness. Everything is just preserved better.
    The settings I landed on were 2000 nits (the same as the game) for the Input Maximum, and 600 nits for the Output Maximum. I'll mess around with these values in other games and see what happens.

    I never understood what there are both _"Base (Canvas)"_ resolution and _"Output (Scaled)"_ resolutions in the _Settings - Video_ page, since you have to choose in the _"Output - Streaming"_ tab what resolution to stream to if you wanted it to be different than the recording resolution anyway. You can fit everything in just fine in the whatever resolution canvas anyway, regardless of their actual size, so what's the point of having those two there?
    In the beginning, I thought it was to have two different resolutions for streaming and recording, and I was confused when both recording and streaming ended up as the same resolution. I still don't understand the reason for having those two there when you must set it in the _"Output - Streaming"_ tab anyway.

    • @leucome
      @leucome 3 місяці тому +1

      Using a higher resolution canvas can be useful for certain effects as they have more pixel to work with if the canvas is bigger. Then the output scaling is just the same function offered a two place. I do not think there is more to it than that. And yes it can be used to have different resolution for the stream and recording. If I remember correctly, it is done with the advanced output mode.

    I have a couple questions. What media player do you use for your PCM 32-Bit Float recordings? Is there a fix for the static that occurs in Application Audio Capture around 20 minutes into the recording? Does the new Audio Capture have the same problem? Lastly, I use Davinci Resolve Free but when I import HDR Video it's washed out, is there a fix for this?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  4 місяці тому

      I usually use MPV or QuickTime (on Mac) tho I can’t say I spend much time just playing my recordings back directly. Just take them straight to editing or UA-cam.
      App audio capture static is caused by DPC latency, an issue in Windows - there’s a Windows fix coming to fix it for some, but no clue when it’ll show up in the Windows Update.

    You didnt mention it but are the new scaling options GPU scaling options? Previously if you scaled at the encoded it did the scaling on the CPU which had huge performance hits. The only way to get GPU scaling was to scale at the video/canvas side. This seems like this would fix that but wanted to get some clarification. If this is GPU scaling then this is HUGE

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  4 місяці тому +1

      It did not change your encoder if you rescaled before. The only issue was if you used NVENC, it would fall back to the older/less efficient NVENC implementation (prior to 2019) but it was still encoding on your GPU if you had a GPU encoder selected.
      This does fix that, regardless, yes.

    I'm interested to see encoder quality analysis on amd since their recent drivers should've improved quality of their h.264 but I didn't see anyone actually test it since everyone is focused on frame gen

    Video improvements
    Content Adaptive Machine Learning (CAML) text detection has been updated to support up to 4K gaming for even greater clarity.

      Unfortunately for me I actually saw reduced quality at least in streaming from their 24.1.1 update. I actually had to revert to December's driver. I did report this through their tool to them, and there was another post I found someone on Reddit saying they had the same issue as me. Essentially being that it seemed like the bitrate on a stream would refresh every 3 seconds or so. Like an extreme quick fluctuation of bitrate. At least with 6-8000 Kbps on Twitch. Reverting fixed the issue for me, so I'm hoping that might be fixed in February's update.

    So the new scaling feature is only really beneficial for recordings? I tried setting my output (scaled) resolution to 360p on the video tab and then set my rescale output to 1080p just to see if it would scale it up and the recording is just 1080p. Am I using this wrong or does it not do anything different to the scaling option in the video tab?

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  3 місяці тому

      It’s useful for streaming too. I’m confused what the problem is, you told it to scale back up to 1080p, and it scaled back up to 1080p… that’s the expected result
      But no, it doesn’t change anything in the video tab as the video tab already had these options. Only benefits Rescale Output in encoder settings

    • @landoishisname
      @landoishisname 3 місяці тому

      @@EposVoxTo be clear, setting the rescale output in the recording tab completely overrided the scaling in the video tab; the video wasn't upscaled to 1080p, it was just straight up 1080p

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  3 місяці тому

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  3 місяці тому

      The primary use case is the one I described: where you want to be able to record native res and stream lower res, but control the scale filtering of the stream, which hasn’t been possible before.
      The scenario you’re describing: canvas res 1080, output scaled res 360, then scale output 1080, produces a 1080p video because you told it to, but the video is being scaled twice. It’s not bypassing the video tab’s scaling. You’re still scaling your video down and back up. There’s no use case for that.

      @@EposVox Ok thx but i tried everything in the book and always get lag i have the latest hardware and 100,000 kbps and when i watch the obs in game screen it lags the frame pacing can not keep up with the game at 60fps. Like i said if it stutters or lags in the game capture source then it will lag on the stream.

      Yeah software video encoding is no longer relevant for realtime streaming. H264 itself is about to stop being relevant altogether. X264 was supported and improved upon for 2 decades and there’s nothing more to be done with it.
      But even if there were, again there’s no reason to still be using it

      At this point x264 still gives better quality for live streaming compared to NVENC.
      AV1 will change that but it will take some time. @@EposVox
