I like watching the whole project, please. I can always scan forward if I need to, so carry us along. Thanks for your videos. I watched you closely and taught myself to tat. It took me 6 months and plenty of knots, snarls and cramped fingers to get the technique down. Part of my problem was counting the stitches. You count the last half stitch of a picot as the first stitch of a string of stitches. It was maddening to figure that out!!! After watching over and over, I finally got it. Thanks!
Hi Mary, thank you for your comment. Normally I count the join as the first half of a stitch and then complete the join with the second half of a double stitch before carrying on with normal double stitches. Occasionally I do it differently, depending on the project. Sorry if that was confusing! Well done on persevering and becoming a tatter. :-)
Great Joelle,no one like you!!I’m so happy you show this pattern,Priscilla tatting book is not so easy to understand for me,but now everything is clear….thank you so much from your Italian follower Monica!!

Hello Tej, thank you for your comment. As I said in my comment above, I'll now have to make sure I can figure out the next part of the pattern. Old patterns can be a bit difficult to decipher sometimes! :-)
Thank you so much! I am very excited to learn to tat this collar with you. I began my tatting journey by following your beginning shuttle tatting video.
I've always wanted to know how to tell what I should use. Thank you so much. Your work is exquisite. I can't wait to be able to tat half as good as you. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I'm looking forward to your next video.
@@11Frivole I want to learn so many things it is hard to pick one. I think the one thing I would like to learn next is how to start the next round of a pattern and knowing when to cut your thread and start the next round versus using a split ring or other method to start the next round without cutting the thread when using one color thread. That is one thing I would like to understand. Thank you so very much.
@@jillfischer3492 Hi Jill, I think it's more a matter of preference really. I like to move seamlessly from one round to the next as much as possible so will use a split ring or split chain wherever I can to achieve this. On the other hand, if I'm about to run out of thread on my shuttle and nearing the end of a round, then I will cut and start with freshly filled shuttles for the next round. So it depends on the circumstances too. Does that answer your question or did I misunderstand?
@@11Frivole Yes, it does perfectly. It helps me understand so much more. You have been such a great help to me, and I'm sure so many other people, in understanding how tho tat. I'm also on the team for seeing all of the steps. I find it easier to follow and it has the added bonus of providing an estimate of the time a project will take. Your time plus at least 50% because I don't tat quickly. 😁 Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful project. Always enjoyed and appreciated.
Hello Silver Flames, thank you for your comment. I see your point about helping to know how long a project might take... but I'm still on the fence about filming everything full length especially when there are lots of repeats of the same thing. This will be the case especially when we get on to the next rounds of the collar where something will be repeated for the whole length of the collar. :-)

Hello Miranda, thank you very much for your nice comment and feedback. Glad to hear you are joining in with the collar! What colour is yours going to be?
@@11Frivole I wish I could post a picture. The color is sort of hard to describe! It's called Antique. It is a very light brown with a pink overtone. I love the color of yours though, and wish I had something similar!
Beautiful. I used to tat. This color and pattern is so lovely. I’d do it right with you but I have essential tremors and can’t any more. I have blue ribbon pieces from county fair. I love watching you though.

Hello Steve, how nice to hear you completed the other collar and that it went well. I bet it looks great in shades of blue! I hope you decide to join in on this one. At the moment, I'm still trying to figure out the next rounds as they don't fit quite well for me as written in the pattern. I might upload a short video explaining where I might have to make changes to the pattern.

I love seeing you do a few repeats and the speed up the video. Or cut to the next part. I do have a question when jumping from 4th-5th rounds I probably would have done this wrong-so it would be helpful to see what the pattern says and then show us how and why. Your work is amazing!
Hi, I saw a video you made 10 years ago about a doily from Jan Stawasz. I bought one of his books but I find it difficult to read the patterns because of his special technique. Can you made a video about his technique? It would be very much appreciated. I love the way you present the videos very good to follow. And still learning although I made my first little doily 50 years ago. Thank you for sharing this pretty necklace.
Hello Emilia, the technique Jan Stawasz uses is basically "front-side/back-side tatting". It means that when you are working on the back of the work, you start your stitches with a second-half. On his diagrams, he has blue numbers and red numbers and to be honest, I just follow the numbers associated with standard tatting rather than the ones associated with his method. He does add a half-stitch before picots on the front side if I remember correctly but I'd have to refresh my memory on his technique. Not sure if I'd make a video on his technique... but I'll bear it in mind for a future video idea. Thank you for your comment. :-)
@@11Frivole thank you for your explanation. I will give it another try just using the black numbers and forgetting about the half stitches before the picots. Because I am very much in crocheting right now it has to wait a little, if I can hold myself back that is.😀
I prefer you show it all. I can always fast forward to next part. I timestamp the different repeats and can easily go back to first, second, etc. I like to be able to slow it down the first couple of attempts to really get the jist of it. Thank you so much for doing these videos. I love to hear you talk and you are so good at tatting, I can just watch you all day. I do have one question, how do you avoid wasting alot of thread that is left on your shuttle when you start your next medallion? What do you do?
Hi Pandora, thank you very much for your nice comment and expressing your preference. I'm still not sure about showing all the repeats on some videos because it can make them very long! But thank you for saying you enjoy seeing everything. About wasting thread... it's a bit unavoidable the first time you make a new pattern but in this case, for example, I made the first medallion with my shuttle full and then saw how much was left so that I had a better idea how much was needed for the subsequent ones. For this medallion, you need a pretty full bobbin, especially as we are working with size 10 which takes up more space.
You asked if we wanted to watch the entire project being done or if we would want to skip the repeated work. I honestly could go either way. With your work sometimes I get entranced in what you do. If you need or want to make the videos shorter, by all means skip ahead or make the video speed up. I'm enjoying every bit.
Hello Anna, thank you for your comment, glad to hear you are enjoying the videos! I do try to show as much as possible but sometimes it does seem it would make the video just too long to show every single stitch. :-)
