You guys are calling her a scammer for receiving money from her boyfriend while they were dating? Like your boyfriend never gives you money or buys you gifts? Also, after realizing she doesn’t love him anymore, she has stopped receiving his money and even told him to stop sending the money. How is that a scammer? A scammer always wants more money, but never dares to have a serious video call like this. And she made a valid point when saying that he kept sending the money so that she would not cut him off. I bet he knew what he was doing too. Now that he knows she is no longer waiting for him, he wants to call her out on this show. Shame on him.

Plenty of times throughout the years. He wanted to keep the fantasy alive of that virtual relationship he could escape from and thought it would be ruined if they met for whatever reason. Trinh kept telling Bri that she told him to stop sending money but he kept doing it anyways to continue to keep the door opene for that fantasy relationship he created in his head probably having no intention of traveling there or filling out the paperwork to bring her to America.

I love Trinh's sarcastic "Yeah...okay" at the end of the video chat 😂 I'm team Trinh on this one. She was honest about who she was, and has been waiting 10 years for him to visit. Yes! And I don't like how the Catfish woman kept talking to her!
This woman seemed for open amd honest and up front! Yet the Catfish woman was just being nasty and aggressive for no reason.
No one MADE him send the money. And he even admitted himself that he CHOSE not to go visit her although he could have.
She's given up her young years. Her prime years. Waiting on him.
And we women know that we don't stay young and beautiful and fertile forever. If we're going to have a family with children and a husband, we need to get with them when we're young.
If its been 10 years, then she's at least 28 now. Probably older.
This is the first Catfished episode that I actually liked AND that I blame the "victim" instead of the "scammer". (Because I feel like in all honesty, HE actually scammed HER. 😢)

Often this means that the men leave their families to find work, sometimes overseas and they will send a large portion of their earnings back to their families at home. Levi and Trinh have been communicating for 10 years with the expectation of marriage, so to accept money from him isn't scamming, it's because of the culture Trinh belongs to. Trinh has put off marriage and the financial stability of having a husband closer to home for Levi only for him to flake out and put off coming to see her for TEN YEARS!?! What he did to her is actually quite common. Guys start talking to girls overseas, promise to meet them, even marry them. The girl is all excited to marry a foreigner. But the guy strings her along and never shows up. After a few years, she stops believing him, now she starts chatting with several guys, hoping one will be honest and come over. Maybe try and get money from each of them. She has turned cynical. It is actually kind of sad.
Living overseas, I see it all the time with girls. And you have to see it from their perspective. Sex is a commodity and they are willing to trade it for support. They are desperate to survive and they are willing to form a relationship with a foundation of sex for protection and support. The thing is, if you hook up with one and actually treat her well, she will probably fall in love with you. It just might take a few years.
I have seen the other side when I still lived in America. They start talking to a girl, make her all sorts of promises, but they have no real plans to go over. TBH, I think a lot of men are actually afraid to travel. I currently live in Kenya and local girls are constantly trying to get me to hook them up with an American guy. Unfortunately, I have to warn them that most of these American men are flaky and will never show up.

This sucks so bad. She is a real person. He was obsessed and infatuated, and only heard what he wanted to hear; wouldn't come to Vietnam to see her even though he kept promising he loved her. He kept sending her money when she told him not to, because it made him feel like he still had some claim over her.
Despite the language barrier, there was a time she wanted this. You can understand how hard and how painful it would be, to wait and wait, for ten years for him to come to her, believing he loved her. ...And he never did.
If someone broke my heart and wasted ten years of my life, no, I would not feel guilty about taking a consolation prize of $12 every now and then to help with groceries. Especially if I was struggling to make ends meet. Y'all make it sound like he's paying for a luxury apartment, fully supporting her financially, and sending her designer handbags or something. She didn't NEED his help. So unless they have evidence she's been pulling this shit on multiple guys, I believe her.

Both of these things require that you have a significant amount of money saved in the bank, (usually about two years worth of salary, and my understanding is that they lock the account while you're abroad) you have to prove financial records, have a full time job (with a letter from your employer granting your leave of absence along with a scheduled date for returning to work) own/actively lease property, and pass an interview at the embassy with a US Ambassador... Whereas he just has to fill out a a half page document (Cov-19 and Swine Flu screening) and get his passport stamped at the airport.

In the beginning of our relationship I sat down and had a long talk about my wife about this. I just watched this video with my Vietnamese now wife sitting next me, and we're both gobsmacked at how this played out. I'm very fortunate that I could afford to visit her early and often, but jeez, Levy, what were you thinking?
PS My wife was earning about half of what Trinh got from Levy every month in a poorly paid government job, and it was more than two years after we met that she even _considered_ letting me send money to her.
Oh, and the thing about the hotel receiving the packages is probably because home addresses aren't very well defined in a lot of places in Vietnam. I always used to send flowers to my wife's work address because her apartment was so difficult to locate for the flower vendor. She had an "official" address but it was more like a PO Box in a government office.

He didn't sound that confident and even said he was afraid to go meet her and find out she's with someone else. My guess is every time he planned to go for a visit he got cold feet and cancelled, either because he was afraid of her reaction when she saw him (because of his lack of self-confidence,) or because he was afraid he would find her hanging out with other men (again a self-confidence issue.) Levy hid behind his screens and gifts and didn't have the courage to take the next step like you did.
