      This looks like what Truth meant when he told Homunculus that he had to have seen what he was supposed to do "through Your (his) own eyes." Greed didn't embody greed as a concept, but the greed of Homunculus, who wanted human affection. When he gets rid of his emotions, branding them as "sins," he is trying to become perfect, but is becoming more imperfect, and this leads to his death and punishment by Truth.

      @@tzaphkielconficturus7136 I think the opposite is true, greed does not represent the homonculae of greed but rather he is a gestalt being of souls who's core aspect is their greed. Human souls. Same thing with wrath, these become more complicated because the souls that make them up may have their "sin" in common but they were full human souls. Father failed to see that the wrathful and the greedy would have other things in common enough so that the gestalt being of those souls would take on much more complicated traits and behaviours.

      That's the tragedy of the dwarf. It could have been undefeatable, had it kept its human desires.

    One of the things that makes Greed catch my eye--that wasn't focused on as much in your video--is how much he cares about people. Probably as much as Ling, and possibly even more about people unconnected to him than Ling at the start (Ling's declaration that he will look after all the clans of Xing, not just his own and saying, when Mei calls that greedy, that maybe Greed rubbed off on him). You tend to get to see it more in the manga, where he can be doing things in the background more easily, but Greed spends the entire series showing that he cares about people. Upon getting the (mistaken) idea that Al's brother is dead, he starts worriedly conferring with his guys about being rude, and apologizes to Al over his (presumed) loss. He constantly asks people if they're okay during/after fights, and spends multiple pages trying to convince the non-superpowered of the group not to fight Father up close due to the extreme power disparity, even getting into a fight with Major-General Armstrong about her participating or not (that lasts in the background of an entire page). He learns Darius' and Heinkel's names and uses them, in contrast to Ed and Von Hoenheim who tend to call Darius 'Gorilla' (to Darius' displeasure). Heck, even after the memory wipe, he lets Ling write a message (that he can't read!) to LanFan and goes out of his way to find Ed so Ed can deliver it to her! He even pre-lampshades it in his first fight with Ed, saying Ed is one of those people who doesn't care what happens to them but becomes enraged when someone they care about is hurt ("typical stoic hero")... and then promptly loses it when he sees Bradley kill Loa and Dorochet (an anger that carries throughout the rest of the series, in fact).
    Basically all of his interactions (with people he doesn't hate) come off as amiable and generally respectful of other people's possible feelings and desires, and he shows, consistently and constantly, that caring about others is a huge part of who he is.

    • @YaminoBakuraotaku
      @YaminoBakuraotaku 6 років тому +71

      I would have enjoyed that--I do notice that it tends to slip by a lot of people who aren't as big of fans of him, and therefore it's something I try to emphasize myself when I can. Greed seems to be one of those characters that you need to pay some attention to in order to get a better look at what he's actually like. I wouldn't necessarily say that all the clues we see are subtle, exactly, but individually they aren't as in-your-face as, say, Ed and Al's many, many moments showing they care for people. So I think a lot of people listen to the loud, hammy speeches about wanting to be king of the world and take that on its face, rather than seeing how much his actions and general treatment of people belie the apparent "it's all about me" attitude.
      Some of that might be Greed's inability to recognize or properly contextualize his feelings towards people; he may have decided his caring about people stems from his desire to have them be HIS people, and you take good care of things that belong to you, right? (overlooking that a great many people actually don't), or he may think that he does want the whole king of the world thing and just doesn't notice how much he cares about others' lives and wellbeing, or maybe a mix of both.
      tl;dr I have way too much to say about Greed's character and part of that is because a lot of people seem to miss things. Love your videos, hope you feel like doing more FMA talks in the future. :)

      Super late I know, but I disagree on Greed's true desires. He CLAIMS to want money, sex, women, etc, but we never see him pursue those things. By the time the series introduces him, he's running a bar, and perfectly content, except for wanting to know how Al's body works. He's lived for who knows how many centuries, if he truly wanted those things, he would have had them, but when the heroes and the reader meet him, he's content, because he already HAS what he wants-friends (even if he won't admit at the time). His fusing with Ling, and seeing/feeling the bond he has with Ed, Lanfan, and Fu reminds Greed of what he really wants, and what he's willing to die for.

    I love your analyses, but Ling Yao is based off of Chinese, whereas Samurai is strictly Japanese. (just the name Ling Yao itself is a mandarin pronunciation). There's no specific word for a fighter like Ling so I think he's just considered a fighter...xD;;. but most male sons will be taught martial arts and how to handle different types of weapons anyways.
    japanese culture borrowed a lot from China at the beginning (especially around tang dynasty when buddhists travelled to japan a lot to impart knowledge and religion), but has veered and evolved their own strong identity, so they're quite different in many places :). so yeah, no samurai or the seppuku honor system in ancient China xD;;. (plus i don't think sons of emperors in japan can become samurais anyways, since samurais are warriors who serve a lord or someone of high birth)

    Greed might actually be the redeeming qualities of Father. Consider: the one human act he does in the "present" part of the timeline is his genuine happiness that Hohenheim had a family. Why is that significant? Because it was between the melting of the first greed and the creation of the second. At all other times, he is cold, cruel and indifferent and even when addressing Hohenheim, none of their old friendship remains. It is a competing set of desires and interests that contrast against his pride, envy and lust, one that disagrees with the path that he has chosen and wishes for the other path and ultimately, is really at the core of what truth cites as what he lost when he cast off his emotions. Greed, one of his seven sins, is the driver of his compassion and by losing it, he loses his ability to be redeemed or even understand why he is in need of redemption. And then to consider the converse: Greed's arc starts from Father's ignorance, a feeling of emptiness that he fails miserably at filling through shallow endeavors that is his lack of friendship and it is through his isolation, separated from Father's other sins and joined with other humans that he learns his true path

    I would say the top two elements for a popular show are a good "bait" (the wikipedia summary, the opening theme, the character designs) and the "hook" (the starting episodes of the show). You have to understand that the steps most people take in order to watch an anime are "read or hear the name of the show", "google it", "click first two links", "does this sound good? Watch" and then they'll probably pick up or drop the show after the first few episodes.
    Fate/Zero is sadly hurt by its "prequel that is better than the original show" status and a premise that is more weird than familiar, Monster is probably hurt by the fact that only a segment of the anime-watching population is interested in a 52 episode Thriller and only a segment of the Thriller genre fans is interested in anime (due to biases). Fullmetal Alchemist manages to be both popular and good because the concept is just familar and strange enough to be intriguing, the Alchemy system is magnificently well defined early on with just some recurring quotes and the whole backstory involving the "failed experiment" of the Eldrick brothers is an emotional punch to the gut (and is followed by some other very emotional episodes early on).
    Also, since you seem to really like characters with conflicting philosophies in shows as POVs and questions regarding kingship, and since I might forget later, I'd really recommend you to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Its first couple episodes are somewhat weak, though).

    I'm not 100% sure yet, but I sometimes think FMAB may be my favorite anime, story wise. I guess because it feels more relatable than a lot of other anime like Naruto, OP, and HxH.
    I mean, if my mother died, and we had the ability to bring her back (even though there's a good chance it wouldn't work), I can see my brother and I trying anyway. The abilities people have aren't too outrageous. It's just on an higher level than the alchemy humans of our reality practiced.
    I don't know. I still can't say it's definitely my favorite because of anime like Death Note, but it's still a great fuckin manga/anime. This is just MY OPINION of course.

  • @StanTheWoz

    Ling and Greed are probably my two favorite Brotherhood characters, and represent both a lot of what I think the series does best and where I think it falls short. A lot of the good points are covered in the video, but Greed in particular is great partly in realization of concept: his emotional basis is very simple, but it nevertheless creates a complex character who changes, learns, and grows over the course of the show while being compelling throughout.
    A lot of Brotherhood's writing is really good in terms of the literal mechanics of what's going on - how the alchemy works and what forms it can take, what a homunculus is, etc. - but I think sometimes overlooks some potentially poignant narrative results. In this case, Greed shows how an artificial being formed from a single emotion of a seemingly single-minded malicious character can still be complex, compelling, and even redeemable. None of the other homunculi really get this level of depth, perhaps except Envy or Pride, in my opinion largely because they were needed to do something or other in service of the plot arc - Lust dies before getting much character to service the reveal, tension, and establish that they can be killed, Gluttony gets an extra dimension by being seen as childlike when commanded not to attack the brothers but this has little relation to his emotion, Wrath largely serves as an overwhelming tactical obstacle rather than a meaningful character, etc. There are some character moments but I feel they largely serve simply to indicate depth rather than actually explore it. It's this sort of sidelining characters for the plot that is a lot of what keeps me from considering Brotherhood a masterpiece, rather than merely quite good. It's certainly not a surprise for a work that's so "shonen" in structure though, even if it's generally very well-executed.
    Anyway, this is obviously all just my opinion. There's some other stuff too, but I don't know if I can really articulate it properly, especially in a UA-cam comment.

      I was GOING to like your comment intill you said "where it falls short" and the rest of the crap you spewed out because everything you said was entirely just WRONG!
      There is no "potentially poignant narrative results", that's just you being massively stupid to see the brilliance of what's going on in the story and everyone sees the brilliance of the story except you!
      ALL the other crap you said about the other homoculi is 100% and not at all valid. Freed isn't redeemable at all and the only reason why his character works is because he wants everything, from both good and bad. That means eve wanting Friends so that's why his arc makes sense only for him and no one else.
      "his emotional basis is very simple, but it nevertheless creates a complex character who changes, learns, and grows over the course of the show while being compelling throughout."
      Yes and it ONLY works for the character named GREED, whose wants everything. He changes and grows because greed wants everything so og course he's going to rebel and want to do whatever he wants. That can ONLY work for his character and no one else.
      And Greed isn't an "emotion", it's an action and want. How stupid are you?
      A villain doesn't have to "change, learn, or grow" throughout the course of the show, thy just have to have nuanced depth which plenty of them do which you are too naive to notice.
      You can be a massively compelling villain character without having to be a good guy you pathetic moron.
      "None of the other homunculi really get this level of depth"
      They don't have too because they're characterizations for the story is perfectly well written for as it is in serve to the story. Only Greed's story arc works for his character and no one else. And Wrath have more depth than greed does so WTF are you even talking about at this point?
      How stupid can you be.
      They're are no "perhaps except pride or envy" they DO get enough depth and nuanced in serve to the story and what they're character is supposed to entill. Not all the villain characters have to have insecurity to humans just to please your moronic self whose too stupid to notice they're depth that they have.
      apparently in your eyes, characters have to be "all good" in order for them to please your moronic self which is FAR from the truth.
      These are the embodiment of sins themselves so thinking that any of them need to have "super depth" is foolish and narrow minded and even without having this "redeeming" crap that you are babbling on about.
      "Lust dies before getting much character to service the reveal, tension, and establish that they can be killed"
      WTF does that even mean? What? She doesn't need to get much character because her character is supposed to be bloodlust incarnate and her physical body is supposed to be lust for others to find appealing like jean havoc. Her entire set up is do
      Greed being killed by being dipped in boiling oil and drank down by father was supposed to showcase they can be killed and Lust's death was perfect to showcase they CAN be killed after dying enough time which was done beautifully by mustang.
      The "reveal, tension, and establishment" that all the homunculi can all be killed was all there, you were you conceitedly stupid to notice it all.
      "Gluttony gets an extra dimension by being seen as childlike when commanded not to attack the brothers but this has little relation to his emotion"
      At this point, you've proven not to make any sense at all.
      And the nonsense you said about Gluttony is beyond stupid, like are you for real right now?
      Gluttony isn't a "emotion", it's a action and a SIN. These characters have SINS they embody. That fact you don't know what proves your stupidity.
      The whole point of gluttony's character is supposed to be a man child who doesn't think critically and all he wants to do is eat. All he wants to do is satisfy his hungry and nothing more in childlike manner.
      That "dimension" you call it is supposed to be the entirely of character, a creature that only wants to eats. Him having
      And what does not attacking the brothers when commanded not to have "little relation to his emotion" what? That doesn't matter any sense. He doesn't attack the brothers when he's told not to, that's all there is too it. It doesn't have to relate to his "sin".
      Gluttony still follows orders of his superiors whenever they tell him too.
      You're not making sense and proving you don't know what you're talking about.
      Don't know what you're even whining about at this point as it's irrational.
      The fact you think every one of the main villains needs a sappy sob story is just moronic and prove that people can't take anything you say saying. No wonder your channel is died.
      And the worst take out of everything you said is what you said about wrath.
      Also saying Wrath just "overwhelming tactical" instead of a meaningful character is one of the dumbest most idiotic, the most braindead claim i've ever since.
      Wrath is one of the best villains of all time brimming with character and nuanced yet you're too stupid to see his brilliant characterization through from being angry man whose internally angry and pissed at his life being controlled by everyone and pissed at humans never doing what they're told but ultimately finding solace in them because humans gave him a reason to fight and find purpose. All the while Wrath has to put up with the fact that everything in his life was manufactured for him EXCEPT his wife that he choose on his own which has nuanced depth to show he has some humanity inside him on that he's glad he made one choice on his own.
      THAT'S character depth, THAT'S a meaningful character that's explored throughout the show/manga throughly.
      There is NO "etc" this is just you moronic not looking at things all the way though.
      This IS character moment, you fool!
      Is IS depth to wrath and actually explores it in subtle and nuanced way. You're too blind to see it and saying all this stupid crap about saying "oVeRwHelMInG tACTIcAL ObStAClE" "inDiCaTE dEPtH NoT aCtuaLlY eXpLoRE It".
      It's not anyone else's fault that you're too dumb to know character
      The show IS a masterpiece in quality from seeing how well done all the Homocunli are and how they all die that's ironic to they're sin title,
      Lust died at the hands of a man with a reputation as a womanizer but was actually saving the woman he loved but can never physically be with
      Gluttony was eaten
      Envy committed suicide out of humiliation after realizing his deep jealousy of humans
      Sloth died overexerting himself in a fight
      Wrath died with a sense of peace by a vengeful person
      Pride was destroyed after attempting to escape into the body of the very thing he looked down upon, throwing away his pride
      Greed sacrificed himself for the one thing he’s always wanted, friends
      That's why the homonculi are they way how they are and greed is the way how he is as it ONLY works for him and Wrath dies the way how he died.
      Everything you said is Wrong, you're just wrong. It doesn't if it's "your opinion", it's an objective fact that the villains are masterclass in this show and they're character stories/arcs are all fitting.
      "It's this sort of sidelining characters for the plot that is a lot of what keeps me from considering Brotherhood a masterpiece, rather than merely quite good."
      You just never stop talking do you? Because my god is all your comments bad.
      The show doesn't "sidelining" ANY of the characters at all and you not finding the show a Masterpiece is all on YOU for being too stupid for not seeing how all of it's characters are worth something and all of it's characters do something that keeps the story perfectly well paced and intact. NONE of it's characters are "sidelined" for the plot you idiot, you're just too ignorantly stupid to ss the nuanced depth of the entire cast.
      The show/manga isn't just "quite good", it IS a masterpiece by you're too stupid to notice as all your terrible complaints are irrationally bad.
      "iT's tHiS sOrT oF sIdeLinGing" NO! There IS no "it's this sort of nothing", you're just too stupid to see the genius of how everything is well made, you fool.
      "t's certainly not a surprise for a work that's so "shonen" in structure though, even if it's generally very well-executed."
      WOW, this is a bad comment right here.
      Can you PLEASE stop talking like a smug idiot who thinks they know what they're talking about, when they clearly don't.
      And FMAB is so atypical in "shonen structure" for you to moronic say that it is, is PAIN for me to see anyone make that claim that it's "shonen in structure". Wrong, again, just wrong. It's NOT "shonen" in structure at all you moron. The hell does that even mean? It's so atypical structure and in the genre that's the most laughable and ludicrous claim I've ever seen someone make about FMA.
      It doesn't matter if it's "your opinion", you're just wrong on all the nonsense you spouted out.
      Whatever "some other too" you had i'm pretty sure it's going to be terrible because so far all the "problems" and the crap you said about the show so far is absolute pain to listen to that I'm more than 100% certain that they're all horrible points for anyone to hear.
      Please stop talking. Your "points" are horrid and I'm glad your channel is nothing more than garbage no show that no one cares about.

    3:53 Samurai? The people of XIng are more based off China than Japan. Ling is a Chinese Warrior just like Lan Fan and Fu who are often mistaken as ninjas but they are more akin to the Ren Shu ancient Chinese assasins/thieves some of which migrated to Japan helping establish ninjutsu. So its would be more appropriate to call Ling a ninja like warrior than a Samurai

    Greeds sacrifice and the events leading up to it are such good moments to me, because they simultaneously contradict his character and make total sense to who he is. He specifically says at some point that he doesn't ever lie, he doesn't need to because he is unashamed of who he is. So you can always trust him to be honest. Yet the one time he ever tells a lie in the show is when he, the embodiment of avarice, is doing something selfless. This moment seems so contradictory to what he is meant to stand for but actually fits him perfectly if you think about why he did it. Only minutes before his big lie, he acknowledges and accepts that the missing part of himself that drove his greed is his lack of emotional connection with other people. It was through Ling and his brotherly kind of bond with his host that the hole in his life began to fill itself. So when that completeness is threatened by father when he attempts to absorb Greed and Ling along with him, Greed does the most selfish thing that he could possibly do in that moment, he acts selflessly. He saves Lings life at the cost of his own, and in doing so he dies feeling fulfilled, and no longer wanting for the first time in his life

At the part where Greedling decides to help defend the gate (and he goes all out with his shield), you really can't tell who it is. One of the characters even mentions that he can't tell if it's Ling or "the homunculus". It's like they really became the same person (obviously they are different, but their relationship became much stronger throughout the series, as you pointed out) Great video!

What amazes me the most about FMAB is the fact that there are so many amazing secondary characters, there is no movie or TV series that has such great characters and it was achieved in 64 episodes, that is simply mind blowing, you can make like 10 spin offs only by following a secondary character, like Scar, Mustang, Armstrong brothers, van Hohenheim, Winry, Ling etc. And all of them have the potential to be very high quality anime.

Luffy also relies on his crew for everything and acknowledges that without them he'll never be able to achieve his goal. If you look at them simply they're both happy characters who smile alot and are always hungry and looking for trouble in a fun way like Ling annoys Ed and luffy annoys his crewmates.

      @@WillOfMyD Breaking Bad is a great show, possibly my favorite of all time, but it's more about following the path of a handful of characters (Walt, Jesse, Skylar) and most of the other characters are fairly 2 dimensional or not as well developed imo. GoT has an untold number of extremely complex characters that all have their flaws. Lots of antiheroes, redemption arcs, tragic stories, and some characters where even after it's all over, you're not sure quite how to feel about some of them. The plot was definitely rushed at the end though which is disappointing and I'm sure you've heard that most people weren't satisfied with the ending.

    The Homunculus were better to me in the original 2003. Even though greed lasted for lesser amount of time his sacrifice meant more in grand scheme of things.

      I actually haven't seen 2003 but from what I've heard, the homunculi have more characterization. I like that, especially since that was a bit of a complaint for me in this one with the exception of Greed, Wrath and Envy. Pride was alright too, I suppose.

    • @crzyboy190
      @crzyboy190 7 років тому +3

      Aleczandxr Yeah, but them being sins doesn't really make as much sense as it does in brotherhood. Plus I'm pretty sure you heard but the original did become very convoluted after ep 28 when it deviated from the manga. It's still good and it had more mature and complex themes handle more maturely but the series is a solid 7.5. The one thing ill say is rhat you'll definitely liked some characters more the main one being Edward Elric but they tend to drop the ball with Al. He's better in brotherhood.

    I think you should give Angel Beats a shot if you like good characterization. The highschool cast is a bit big at first, but they basically each get an episode of development and you care about the members of the group one at a time. Perhaps not a super strong contender for personal favorites, but it's still a very solid short series.

  • @MaxWelton
    @MaxWelton 2 роки тому +1

    I personally hesitate to classify Greeling’s arc as a “subplot,” since it was Greed who enabled Ed to strike the killing punch against Father. However, given how much screen time Ling gets compared to the Elrics, and the ideas his plot line explores, I think you’re correct.

  • @criticold
    @criticold 7 років тому +27

    Oh, Ling and Saber's ideals are QUITE different, my friend. Saber's ideals consist of a kind of guardianship and sheltering of her subjects. Ling's ideals are about mutual cooperation and comradery. If I were to make an ideological map in the shape of the globe with marks for each character then Saber and Rider would be the north and south poles and Ling would be the equator. He's not right in the center, he's off to the side but he is still in the middle between them.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  7 років тому +17

      Right, and that's a great point. But I really just wanted to use a broad strokes comparison, without getting into the intricacies for reference and use it as a small segue into the tonal comparison between the two shows. They are quite different but I was just making the point that they're both on the side of "the people" rather than the tyrannical opposition they face in their respective stories.

    • @criticold
      @criticold 7 років тому +7

      I figured. I also figure you just wanted to mention Fate/Zero a bit? I also think many people misunderstand Rider's ideals in F/Z too. In the banquet of kings, most of what Rider says is a reaction or a response to what Saber says so he's not truly explaining his own line of thought in detail. Saber says "A king must sacrifice anything and everything for their people" and Rider responds "The people must have someone to lead them and to look up to or they will lose their way and fall". The way he phrases it could be construed as him saying the people serve the king one-sidedly but I find that to be a very short-sighted thing to say, especially considering the clear value Rider places on his relationship to his followers and comradery when he reveals Ionioi hetairoi with the brilliant quote: "Behold my peerless army! Their bodies have been destroyed, and their souls have been offered to the world as heroic spirits. Yet, these legendary heroes remain loyal to me! My bond with them is my greatest treasure, my path to kingship!" I just thought that was an interesting thought to express.

    • @Aleczandxr
      @Aleczandxr  7 років тому +5

      RelativelyCriticalGuy Eh, the Fate/Zero references just came up organically, tbh. That is an intriguing take on Rider though. My thoughts on his ideals are somewhat in between the misconception you describe and the side you say that not many see. I do think that he values his people and is touched by their loyalty for sure, but I also believe that he has a little bit of potential for a degree of oppression within him. I would've liked to explore a story in which he is not in a battle or war, as I feel that seeing him during times of peace would be quite revealing to his character (needless to say, I'm talking about the fictional Iskandar, not the real one). I've read the LN and watched the anime multiple times and I still sometimes alter my thoughts on him.

      For sure.

    • @johnmoone8013
      @johnmoone8013 7 років тому +1

      If I might add my own two cents on Rider's ideals..
      I've always thought of Rider as someone who strives to become the inspiration to his people. His role as king is to be someone his subjects should be someone to look up to and follow. He fills his armies with his dreams of conquest, a dream that people will want to strive for and achieve. I believe that his attitude towards kingship has a tendency to be goal-oriented or more accurately, dream-oriented. I would imagine, that in times of peace (or maybe after reaching his dream of conquest), he would either look for another dream to chase or revel in victory and entertainment.

    After rewatching Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood after a long time as adult and after watching this video I can definitely confirm that greed was both father strongest and at the same time his weakest deadly sin out of whole seven like hohenhiem mentioned father also wanted family and love and connection like human that's why he created seven homunculi and everyone calls him father but unlike greed he just ignores as his ego or pride self is holding back that desire
    One thing I found interesting about greed is he calls father as father sir which I think is he doesn't want to call him father but since father doesn't have name or his name is too big or too many sub name like dusk in a flask he forcefully call him father in both ling body and og greed

  • @Urbanfour
    @Urbanfour 6 років тому +4

    I personally think the way each homunculus is killed could symbolize the way you defeat them in real life.
    Lust= repeatedly not giving in
    Gluttony= your pride stopping you
    Envy= ripping out the root of it
    Wrath= facing it and fighting it
    Sloth= pushing yourself and with help from others
    Pride= Introspective Self-reflection
    Greed= Sacrificing what you have
    The same could be said of their abilities and how they apply themselves in real life.
    Lust= the easiest way to cut down a person
    Gluttony= a continuous hunger
    Envy= the heaviest sin to effect most people in many forms
    Wrath= can make you see things and make you hyper focused
    Sloth= the strongest and most durable habit to fall into, and the fastest to set in
    Pride= can't be fully killed, can seem harmless but actually is the most dangerous, formless, and disappears when your flaws are brought to light
    Greed= depending on how much, it can be a useful tool, or turn you into a monster that no one can get to (mentally or emotionally)

    The secret of how good this is actually falls on the very tight plot. There are no fillers, no wasted characters, and even minor characters that appear on the first chapter of the manga play a pivotal role in the final chapters. This is a very good character analyses! You are spot on about his motivation and zeitgeist.

      I am now reading a very... strange but good manga - "I am a hero". I think it can be interesting to you too. It is silly, but it has some deep thematic threads and characters which surprised me a lot. Also a flare for pacing, which I approve.

      Can confirm "I am a hero" is really great in artwork, story, character and themes. Pretty much the best zombie manga on the market right now, plus the main character is just ideal for the story.

    I consider brotherhood or the manga to be better then hunter x hunter, yet some of hxh's characters were much more impressive, and got me way more emotional,but overall in execution, brohoe comes out on top, less flaws, no bs, still, hxh isnt even finished so that's pretty impressive Togashi, your work is almost as good as the best shonen

    • @Kurama1994
      @Kurama1994 7 років тому +4

      Sander Tegneby I wouldn't say that as much as I like hxh. I'll say Kenshin is the closest you'll get to fma.
      hxh lacks a focused theme and it's all over the place. Sure chimera ant arc is good but even that has it problems. Yorknew it was also good but togashi never concluded that plot thread.

    • @nemeru3352
      @nemeru3352 7 років тому

      Aye, bro hoe is a very impressive conclusive work, yet the great stuff in hunter, even most that was not chimera ant or yorknew was a blast. the show kept suberting my expectations,mostly for the better, it would change up its format like one piece,or jojo, it could go with a different focus of protagonist, or switching up its genre completely, Hisoka being on gon and killua's team was hilarious for example. But my point is even tho it doesnt have the great conclusion feel to it as fma, it rivals it with its positives,meruem for example has a full arc that could have been its own show, and tops any character in fma, or kenshin for that matter,tho am reading the manga at the moment so maybe this opinion could chance,anyway, in the end, the relationship between gon and kil felt finished, great that they ended it there

      Not really. I get the whole ohh humans are bad theme its been done but it definitely doesn't make it the best. Again hxh lacks a focused theme and it's all over the place. Which will always hurt it Compared to both Kenshin and fma.

    I think the reason that Ling is portrayed as good and Saber as foolish, despite similar positions, is that Ling believes that his duty is to his people, but that he had to do it WITH his people. In contrast Saber believed that she always had to be alone. Ling's perspective allows him to avoid Saber's pitfalls and become a heroic character, where Saber becomes tragic.
