- Pocket watches are a great segment of watch collecting and horology. I’ll show you the pocket watches for which I am the current custodian; one of which is believed to be over 170 years old; and, I’ll also discuss differences between collecting pocket watches vs. wristwatches.

Hello from England, that watch is a baby, the earliest one in my collection of over a 150 pocket watches is from 1720 and still running well. I love pocket watches. Mens watches.
Which watch are you referring to?
I don’t know how I missed this one Bob, but I’m glad I found it. I was searching for pocket watches. Excellent content as always. Thanks for sharing your impressive collection with the rest of us.👍👍👍
I'm not a pocket watch collector; just have a few that I inherited. But any watch collector should know some of the history of pocket watches.
Your last pocket watch looks to be from the maker DuBois. I have a similar one, but I don't have that great grandfather clock case. Where did you get yours?
I inherited both the watch and the miniature clock case. What does it have similar to DuBois watches? Thanks for the information.
@@adventureswithtime The intricate dial is very spot on to mine, the script and architecture is exactly the same. Locle is the muncipility and DuBois always inscribed that on the movement cover. Not sure why he didn't stamp it with his name, but it's possible he manufactured his watches for others to white label as he made a lot of watches.
@@timeisahumanconstruct9251 If you don't mine, can you sen me a picture of your watch? You can find my email address on my Info tab
Hi Bob! I live down in Panama. Thanx for the great video.
Thanks for watching.
I collect only pocket watches because not only I think they are more interesting and historical but I have some kind of weird aversion to have something strapped to my wrist. Must be a character flaw on my part but some metal piece attached to my body such as jewelry would drive me nuts. However I do carry a small inexpensive Colibri quartz pocket watch at work from time to time just so I don't have to carry around my cell phone when doing my job.
To each their own. As I said in the video, to me, pocket watches are something you display to admire; whereas wrist watches are something you wear to admire. At least that's how I view it.
Hey Bob, iI thought was interesting that you mentioned the back letters could be an S or E. I also see what could be the letters C and F? when you actually opened the watch there's letters inside of it if you stop your video on (13:05) you can see the letters what looks like an E or F with the S showing? Not sure if that means fast or slow?
Thanks for trying to decipher.
I have the same "mystery watch" as the one at 12:20
Exept mine gas that little push in thing on the other side and instead of gold on the outside it's gold on the inside with silver on the outside. Probably not actual gold and silver but I'd like to think so since the only thing i can find on it is it's serial number. *25345*
One of these days I'll have to do some deep research into these. Let me know if you find out anything on your watch.
I like both pocket watches and wrist watches I have quite a few wrist watches and Pocket watches they are both interesting
Do you actually wear pocket watches? I like them too, but don't wear them.
@@adventureswithtime Yes I do I have a small collection
@@adventureswithtime I got into Pocket watches because of the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland Disney movie from 1951 when I was a kid but it wasn't until I got into the Touhou Project which is a Japanese shootemup game one of the boss characters in Touhou 6 Sakuya Izayoi (十い六ざ夜咲夜) uses a golden Pocket watch to stop time when she fights one of her titles "Perfect and Elegant Maid" and the word Elegant sums up Pocket watches perfectly
@@adventureswithtime Lastly I should mention that I don't have a Waistcoat so I either use accord or some cases I wear the chain of the Pocket watch around my neck like a necklace
Great video - I have more then 10 pocket watches and i think they are great
Do you wear any of them or display only? Looking for a nice way to display the 3 loose ones I have.
Bob, it's only been 4 days and I'm ready for another video. lol
Every Saturday if I have sufficient content.
Bob u are a man of culture. I love u
Well thank you.
I have a 1942 Hamilton 992B labeled US Gov. It is in a stainless steel case with a canteen crown. Any idea of worth?
Sorry no. Do you think it is a military watch? They asking in the WatchUseek forums
The movement say “ U.S. GOVT.” no idea if military. maybe Federal government issued.
@@motorzycleI would definitely post to WatchUseek
Hey Bob good to see you again.
Great video.
Thank you again and again.
Nice presentation. A little comment, though. Keystone “J. Boss” cases (marked “20” year and “25 year”) are gold filled…not plated. Gold filled cases are constructed differently and contain more actual gold than “plated” pieces, and usually do not “wear through to the brass base of the case” as quickly, thus
the “20 & 25 year warranties” offered.
Good to know. Thank you for watching and for the information.
Great video. I..have. a French. Regulator.brand pocket watch porcelain dail..it's antique do you know about these watches. Many thanks
I don’t. What I would do is post a description and pictures on the forum like WatchUSeek

Thanks to you. Sir
PLS HUWAAAA I REALLLGY WANT THE OLD POCKET WATCH LIKE THAT cause yah appreciate old things that over 380 years ago like that
Well it's not 380 years old. But it is old.
Where could I get me that last watch for myself. If there’s no seller now n days would you sell your?!
Mine is not for sale. I don’t really collect pocket watches so I don’t know where to buy them. Try looking on eBay or some of the watch forums
Hey I have a antique Russian pocket watch. I need help identifying it to see if it's really a antique pocket watch.
There are watch forums like watchuseek where you can post comments with pictures to get help. That is what I did.
I was listening to a watch smith speak one day and he said if you want a watch that's pretty on the outside get a rolex if you want a watch that's beautiful on the inside get a hamilton.
I understand that philosophy. Not sure I agree with his brand choice for the example. Why not get a watch that is pretty on both the inside and outside.
@@adventureswithtime not sure I guess he just likes the brand I've spoken with other watch smiths that would disagree with Hamilton and they would prefer a gruen others don't like the idea of having to pick one brand as a favorite and won't answer the question because they feel like there are plenty of watch makers that can produce a nice looking and accurate time piece.
Can anyone please tell me, what is jewellery in side the pocket watches when they say it has 15 or 22
Not sure, but I'll try to find out.
Like wristwatches the jewel count is the number of jewels in the watch.
The second the Waltham is not a railroad watch. Why it is pendant wind and set . A rail road watch is lever set .
Thanks
i found a extreamly old pocket watch in historic are looks gold but encased. please i need help this may be what ive been praying for
How can I help you? I would go on watchuseek and post questions.
@@adventureswithtime thanks found a few old and unidentifiable objects not cleaning just brushed off a little but watch or I think pendant is older than anything seems to have ancient Chinese writing
3:58 that's a Waltham watch
Thank you
Sir..... I have a pocket watch in it I saw Japan movt ...... can I ask if have any idea what it means
How old is it? What is the brand of the watch and movement?
@@adventureswithtime name is milan and movement is quartz
@@adventureswithtime how old I don't really know
@@chudikscI suggest you ask your question with pictures on the WatchUSeek forum
@@adventureswithtime okay
That one person that disliked this video is a traitor lol

I.have.a.pocketwatch.made.in.the.1970.s.says.swiss.made.brand.name.is..called. diamond jewelry. Do you know anything about them. Many thanks
See my previous reply
pocket watches have enamel dial, almost never porcelaine, the mystery watch is an European (french or swiss) made collet watch, worn on a big necklace usualy in the west of Europe, the time setting pin is missing, and it's not a demi-hunter case but just have a thick bezel since it's more a jewel, the lepin watch is not a hunter case either, the case opens this way to help watchmakers, European watches until the 20 often had this style of hinged bezel, it's a openface, me i wear a pocket watch ~3 days a week, very nice to see an american have European watches in there collection!
I am also interested in the Swiss imports along with the American pocket watches and I would like to have both in my collection.
Thank you for the information. I now know more.
That’s not a railroaders pocket watch, the railroaders are lever set so you can’t pull out the crown to set the time
Thanks for the correction.
The Waltham grade 610 is definitely not a railroad grade movement. Although it is a size 16 by 1900’s railroad grade movements had to be not only lever set as stated above, but had to be American made, suze 16-18, minimum of 17 jewels with 19-23 being mist common, be adjusted to 5-6 positions, adjusted to temperature and isochronism, be open face, white dial with bold arabic numbers…..
Webb C. Ball in the 1890’s set the standard and set up a system to keep the watches keeping COSC time although COSC didn’t exist at the time. It is interesting that during his lifetime he didn’t manufacture any watches but used Hamilton, Elgin, Waltham, Illinois and others who met his standards to be marked as Ball Railroad Standard.
Lovely
Thank you. And thank you for watching
Classy ✌️
Pocket Watches are a classy instrument for sure.

You would be better learning how to close the case on a pocket watch first!
Please explain more.
sounds like you just bought a bunch of pocket watches, did 10 minutes of research for vocabulary, then made the video. "Look at this watch, isnt it nice? It has numbers on it in one of two styles. Look at what is written on this watch: serial numbers, jewels, karat, initial, manufacturer, other surface-level info with no research needed."
Might as well have just done a 3 minute showcasing of the watches with no narration. We have eyes, you don't need to point at a serial number and say that its a serial number, or point at the hour markers and say that they're arabic numerals.
I just wanted to share some pocket watches that have passed down to me. Sorry you didn't like the video.
That key wind watch is swiss made there is no seial number for the movement.
Thanks for the info
That small watch is swiss made it will not have a serial number. That watch was called pin set or sometimes nail set. You are missing the pin you depress and hold down with fingernail while setting the time.
There are over 16 pocket watch groups on Facebook and wristwatch groups. That can and will identify pocket and wrist watches for you
Thanks for the information
Womens watch is size 6 and smaller. Unisex size 7 to 10 Mens size 11 to 18.
Pocket watch database tell the watch size
Thanks for all the info
On the tiny pocket watch the case make is solid the case is only gold plated either rollplated or gold filled it is not solid gold. As mentioned the word solid I'd case make just like j.boss
Thanks
Just because a pocket watch is open face that Does Not make it a railroad pocket watch. THAT IS FALSE INFORMATION
Thanks for the correction
