We like to thin down our Quickshade Dip in place of the oil (seal the mini first) and then with a bit of thinner, you can wipe it away for a great effect!
Great painting channel

Are you the official army painter channel?
@@Therealblacktux As official as official can be in a world of make believe, fantasy, and magic...a place called, The Internet.
@@TheArmyPainter lol nice, you guys are cool 😎
that's a great idea
I love how in this video you can see the evolution of Jay's templars recipe
Holy crap. Your "speed painting" looks way better than my highest standard of [not speed] painting.
Kudos.
Honestly, I think using this speed paint for a base and then just picking a handful of details would be a fantastic paintjob. MOAR TEMPLARS
How to paint a black templar in a 3 minute video, the truest true of speed painting! Much appreciated Jay :)
The model looks absolutely amazing!! Your video is very short, but thorough. It should inspire newbies and experienced hobbyists alike. Thanks for sharing.
I think my next hobby fund allotment is going towards an airbrush.. :o
this has been such a helpful and good looking starting point for what i wanted my black templars to be. Im so glad i found this!!
True speed painting is dunking it into a bowl of paint goo!
Mini looks really good!
That is a legit good looking speed-painted marine. Kudos
Love the short highly edited videos!
Fantastic tutorial as always and love the new intro.
Love all of your guys video, You guys deserve more subscriber
This new intro music just lives in my head now, great video!
I love this speed paint! Gotta try it with my Raven Guard
Looks great, honestly I don't think a longer more detailed paint job would look any better on the table
Cool gray templar bro
Dang i fookin love crosses on helmets, so menacing!
Any chance for a tutorial on free handing the bt symbol?
Looks amazing. Time to make a space wolves psyker hunter with that tehnique!
Awesome vid. You can make the baserim paiting even faster by using white spirit + Q-tip to wipe off all the paint on it and reveal the neat black underneath.
My man literally paints 20 times better than me and goes "this is a speed paint. But it still looks alright"
this is actually really great for me because my space marines are raven guard successors and I'm still figuring out black armor.
I actually found an interesting way to do black armor without an airbrush
Abbadon black for base color then a wash of Corvus Black and then slight Eshin grey highlights (Edge Highlights optional)
Great tutorial - as an aficionado of oils the application of an oil wash is superior to a regular wash. Note* if the wash dries "chalky" try gloss or satin coating the miniature prior to applying the wash, this allows a smoother finish.
i love these vids! i watched the crucified heretic and purity seals. I wanna deck out the black templar with some books and candles!
This mini looks hella cool!
The model looks fantastic! Even though i can't follow the tutorial completely (don't have an airbrush) I'll try to follow it the best I can with brushes
My speed painting technique, prime with wraithbone, mask off the white areas with .asking liquid then dump black templar contrast over the model lol
Here’s my quick paint tutorial for black Templar’s, firstly prime your model with black through your airbrush or you can use a rattle can, and your done 😂… but seriously love the quick paint job very helpful
That looks great
Oaaa men i got a heart thats awesome
How does EOB content keep getting better? This is crazy
This might be one of the better videos on showing airbrush highlighting I have seen. Most just seem to say it and then it is done. With you doing it and saying exactly how you where doing the last color was huge for me to understand how to do this. Been wanting to do it for Flesh Tearers, or a new chapter, as I think it looks amazing that way.
Speed and paint, my two favorite things
Fantastic. So, no varnish before oil washing because you were looking for more staining and used the brush instead of a sponge to keep a texture?
Your love of the Templars is infectious it almost makes me want to build my own crusade
I started a bt army specifically because of jay
Really keen to know more on how to do oil washes. Can't wrap my head around it....
Love the paint scheme, any tips for replicating the highlights without an airbrush?
Good morning Jay your theme song is excellent.
Also what sort of thinner are you using on your oil? Is it simply a white spirit?
Christ bless you, thanks this helps quite a bit with my new army
Here’s hoping you guys do another one of these with no airbrushing necessary cuz uh…hand brushes are all I got for my Templar painting 😅
Dude that shit is sick!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
What citadel colour would this be for the shoulder pads? As I really like this compared to the more traditional bright white
What oil paint did you use. My experience with oil washes when mixed with thinners it seems to seperate the pigment from the paint and go all grainy. I have been using winsor and Newton oil paint and thinning with turpentine.
would fit really good in my Gray templars army
Damn! Can you paint all my Black Templars. 😁 amazing job
would using a white rattle can work instead of airbrushing the highlights from the top?
Would love to see a more detailed tutorial on how to do the oil paint. I haven't seen that technique before and seems cool but I'd be so nervous covering the model like that. How does it differ from a normal wash?
Never mind I am an idiot and just saw your comments at the end of the video
Very COOL! What did you use to make the purity seals?
I have a video on it! ua-cam.com/video/94HB06tcuKw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=EonsOfBattle
Great video and I've not even watched it yet
I really think imma use this procedure for my Deathwatch army.
Hey eon!
Planning on a black templar army can you please answer my questions? Im new to 40k
Are black templars heretics?
Can any spacemarine with a sword be a emperors champion?😊
is it rakarth flesh for the shoulder pads and the seals ?
awesome job! just making me sad with the lack of chains ;_; either way though, great work!
Could you do a video trying to paint a black Templar using a similar method to how Marvel and DC use black in their comics. Just think it might be interesting to see if it would give some cool variety in the pallet.
Jay, what brushes you use?
What brushes were used, they held that red paint like it was a pen
can you do this for white scars? :)
How would this work with tanks n stuff?
what song is used in your intro?
Jay, question about the oil wash step. When you remove the wash from what you do not want covered on the model, do you then do the highlights with oil paint or are you using acrylic for that step? I have heard/read that acrylics will not mix very well with oil paints so I am wondering if your removal of the oils from it allows you to use acrylics?
thanks.......awesome job!
oil and acrylic paints cannot be mixed but can be painted on top of each other as long as they are dry. after the oil wash I gave the model about 4 hours and that was enough time for the oils to dry fully. If acrylic paints are not sticking to themodel than the oils are not fully dry yet.
@@EonsOfBattle oh, ok......awesome. Thanks for the tip...appreciate it! cheers
The cross on the face really sealed the whole model together. Stand up job
i’ve been wondering how you paint black templars
How do you do this without an airbrush?
Hey, I know this is quite an old video now but, how did you mixed the black and grey for the first highlight colour? what % of each??
I know this is old, but I do a similar scheme for my Templars using Corvus Black as a midtone, it's very similar to the first highlight color used in the vid
The more models I paint the less I like the look of heavy metal style edge highlights. Yes it takes patience and skill but does it add realism. I don’t think so. I like to take a holistic approach and shade/highlight surfaces and panels for a more natural look. Anyway great video as always.
is that a diff intro song?
Ok I watched this and the decals for dummies video, but really, how do you apply the templar cross on the shoulder without it bending?
the decal does bend, I crush it down hard with a paper towel and the force squishes the water and decal softener out from underneath and the glue on the decal keeps it in place.
Did you varnish the model before the oil wash? The thinner should melt the acrylic paint off if you didn't. I am confused.
I did not varnish and the acrylics were fine. The white spirit goes on top no problem, I think because acrylic is water-soluble, they don't react to the white spirit because it is water insoluble
@@EonsOfBattle Good. I was worried. :) The mini looks great btw.
@@EonsOfBattle this is what I was worried about, so I'm glad you addressed it! Any reason you didn't use a makeup sponge instead of the brush? Did you just happen to have a brush nearby, or is there a reason you used the brush?
Love the execution, very well done. But for me, he isn't black enough to be a Black Templar. But still very useable.
Hello
I wanna master making face paint like that!!! Jealous
Don’t forget to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm 😁❤️👍🏻
the algorithm is appeased!
People that are saying its not black enough. I have a black car that rarely looks black, especially in daylight. Its not a black hole templars!
The name on the black color😳
What miniture is that
its a primaris incursor but with a primaris intercessor head
Oh no. Here come the "you're using an air brush, I don't have one. Not speed painting!" Comments
I'm curious what % of the audience has one. Do you know any mini-painting UA-camrs who've done a survey or anything?
This video IS basically useless for anyone without one...
@@andrewt9128 that's not true. You can do a very similar effect with a make up brush dry brushing the 3 colours on top of each other. I have done this for almost all of my minis and the results are very similar.
Watch Pete The Wargamers video on painting dark angels and you can see how it is a similar result.
I don't have an air brush myself just to he clear.
@@DarkDrake5481 I feel like that's what the video should be about in that case... I've never seen a video called "Have an airbrush but still a speedpainting tutorial?"
And I'm honestly curious how much of the viewership has one, I feel like it's pretty important info. Midwinter seems to be the most popular painter videos and he never uses an airbrush in his tutorials.
Dont have oils
You americans and your "D-Cals" hahah
Ugh… I can’t believe how long I paint to get a paint job that’s nowhere near this good…
I'm a fan but these are Grey Templars :p
I like your tutorials, but why use such a bright white for highlighting the base? you did this in the mek scrapyard tutorial and it didnt look right either, more like spider webs. A beige highlight would look so much better!
Genuinely gave it a chance, but this intro music is soooo much worse than what you had. it's a genuinely annoying tune
