I don't actually have a BMW, but I always like to see your videos. Very clean and instructional.
I won't be doing this until next year but love Brian's videos. I like how he has a fully equipped shop but shows us using ramps.
More videos like this please, show me how to take care of my car.
This guy always comes in clutch for me when it comes to my bmw. Thanks for all the guides.
Perfect video and explanation! Simple and concise
Thanks for bringing us yet another vibe 🥂 enjoyed
if i live in usa you will be my dealer for any bmw things XD
great channel great work bro
Great videos. Very clean work as usual.
I swear i laughed so hard when you were resetting the oil change haha you are amazing 🙌🏻🙌🏻
thank you so much for show us how to change the oil on a particular car. it is so helpful. My quesion is : elevating it on the rhino boxes makes a car not leveled and how doe it work with drainging all the oil from the engine? thank you for your answer. May God bless you and your work.
Thank you it looks simple.
I don’t know why the dealer charges 199$. I thought it is different from other cars. I used to change the engine oil of my 89 Honda Civic all the time.
f 80 dct fluid change would be a great video
Can you do a full guide on spark plugs , air filter, cabin filter and belts too?
I Love this channel
Excellent video!!!
Thanks for the video. Hopefully in the future you can do a video on how to fix oil leaks on this car/engine. Because trust me…oil leaks are destined to happen for this one.
The best 👍
DAMN this is a solid as ride!!
great job
I have a great video Idea that all your followers would love, bumping the f30 rear quarter pannel to achieve a similar f80 look or f82 look.
I’m a simple guy. I see Kies Motorsports, I press like.
Thanks
Thanks for another great DIY vid. What ramps do you recommend for an M340i lowered on Dinans and a front lip?
Thanks for this great and useful video! A quick Q, approximately how much time would it take for an oil change and break fluid change at a BMW dealership (this would be for a 2-yr service on an M135i). Would you say approx 30mins? thanks!
Good video
Thanks 🙏🏼
Good bro
Thanks Bryan. Is there any safe jack point in the front for G29? Or I need to use a ramp like this video?
Amazing. Does the same apply for the f40 116i petrol ?
Thanks for the vid. Are you able to do a vid on how to replace the cabin filter in the G20 M340i?
I’ve been trying to figure this out also
super like, one question, what is best oil brand and viscosity for bmw X3 f25 xdrive2.0i engine N20B20 has 68k miles??
How high is your ramp in order I have enough room to reach the oil drain plug ( I own 2014 435ix, 2015 M4 and 2011 Z4)
? Thanks
BTW That’s a Eastwood 3/8 in. Digital Electronic Torque Wrench he’s using for newton meters.
Is it the exact same process with all B58s? Same process for let's say the X3 m40i?
Question for Bryan ... Is it possible to have Apple TV And CarPlay in an f30 335i???
Hi Bryan from @kiesmotorsport Do those rhino ramps work for the stock height of the g20 m340i? Especially on the way down the ramps?
Hello Brian. What is the best oil for a BMW 318 d G20? Thanks
is that a radar detector next to the rear view mirror?
How important is the brand of synthetic. Would Mobil 1 0-20 work. Mobil 1 is much more widely available than Liqui Moly.
New subscriber here! I hope you start doing 2017+ M240i videos soon!
How do you reset the oil light on a2023 M340i with the new idrive 8?
A good tip is to pour oil in the oil housing to soak into the filter. Prevents the initial startup of the car running dry for a few seconds.
Makes no difference
New bmw 3 series owner
What do you mean when resetting oil that date may not be right? Is it the internal car clock?
Don't you have a service pack from the stealership with this?
M340i xDrive (g20)- 7.2 l oil (awd) and 6.9l for rwd.
Which color is the paint on this beauty?
How to reprogram the computer so that the oil interval is smaller? For example, 10,000 km.
Where is that license plate tow hook from?
Finally! I can change my own oil so no one else will touch my car
Shouldn’t you undo the oil filter/remove oil cap when draining down the oil? Helps it all flow out.
Also did you check the oil filter housing for any debris? There have been problems in this area.
You’re grasping for straws
0W-20 is for CAFE regulations, it's all about fuel economy. Anyone who plans on driving them hard or tuning should consider at minimum going with 0W-30 or 5W-30. Our dealer puts 0W-30 in our X3 M40i even with the 0W-20 hood sticker.
exactly! i was especially asking my dealer about this, because i for sure dont want to have 0W-20 in that engine long term, and they replied 5W30 is standard for the engine, so thats what is going in.
Probably a dumb question but what’s the difference ? Does one burn faster then the other resulting in more oil changes ?
@@josephmccartney5951 All about viscosity.
I dumped the 0w20 after 1,000 miles and it was literally like water. Replaced with Castrol Edge 5w30 Euro Formula.
Thank you for the video. One question. Because of the ramps the vehicle isn´t parallel to the ground. I would be concerned that the oil may not be drained completely. What do you think?
That’s exactly what I thought
Drain plug is to the rear of engine so it naturally drains with the incline
can you do a vid on the g20 with bm3
Soon 😉
i have an f30 2017 , i want to do the oil change myself but if you reset on the cluster .. wil it show it has got oil change in idrive service history ?
No
How do I tell a 340i? Same way?
what is the time set do you mean in 8:00 I dont get it
👍
Just wondering who would be doing an oil change on a BMW less than a year old instead of doing it under warranty lol (seeing that the G20 only launched last year!). But always enjoy these videos, will bookmark for my future (out of warranty) G20 one day!
If you store your car for the snow season you may want to do an oil change beforehand.
Nice DIY video, like always.
I wanted to ask you, i'm getting a 2019 M140i which has the b58 gen 1 in it.
I'll go stage 2 with decat downpipe, charge pipe and intake. Is the 0W-20 oil from BMW still recommended with power increase like that ?
Thanks ✌🏻
0W20 is made for increased fuel efficiency by sacrificing lubricity. If you want to lubricate your engine properly, you should at least take a 5W30, but a 5W40 is better. If you live in areas with really cold winters you could also use a 0W40. If your car has a particulate filter, you should use a LL04 oil, if it doesn't then take a LL01.
Dude at least go with 0w-30, this is Canadian dealer recommended. Or you can do 5w-40 if your car go to the rpm redline quite often.
Is there a reason Volvo approved special tec oil was chosen over the recommended top tec 6600 Ll17
FE?....I'm trying to choose a good oil for my f30 n20 engine
toptech 6600 should be the right one
Thanks for ur confirmation 🙏
the oil filter is subject to shearing upon removal. read BMW TSB before beginning this process.
0W20 😮😮😮
I understand 0W20 oil in an basic economy vehicle but for a high performance turbocharged engine that's known for very high oil temps and load? It's weird because the owner's manual in 2016 and 2017 models with the B58 motor spec you can use 0W20, 0W30, 0W40, 5W30 or 5W40 as long as it had the BMW LL approval. The 2018 and up owner's manual says to use 0W20 yet the motor has seen 0 changes so it can only be for fuel economy versus lubrication properties. I would stick with 0W40 oil because it's going to easily distribute throughout the motor when cold plus lubricate like a 40 weight oil which can handle the high temps better.
my dealer sent me a list of oils for my M340i (06/2020), and the 5W30 was on top of the list as recommended. also, there was 7.2 litres that should go in, not 6.5 :-O
Hopefully a BMW tech or engineer will test out different oil viscosities, and a heavier oil will be approved. I have used 0W20 in my civic and it is basically water. Much too thin for any sort of Performance Engine, cant imagine how it would offer adequate protection especially at operating temperature.
It isn't too thin. An engine with tight tolerances especially a performance engine needs a "thinner" oil
I don't see the correlation between a civic and a bimmer especially when it comes to the engine.
I know this is an old video and comment, but a lot of the research I've done says 0w20 is too thin for the B58. I'm about to do my first change on my B58 and FCP Euro recommends 5w30 or 5w40. Anyone care to weigh in on this?
@@BSed31 Another late-in-the-game reply. I did a ton of research lately. Funny that everything says to use an oil with an HTHS oil with value of 3.5 or greater. That only applies to LL-01 oils or others in the 5W-40 category or heavier. This watery crap is actually closer to a value of 2.7. VERY LOW. When you dig into the weeds, the only oil that ever got to 3.5 were heavyweights. I understand the tighter tolerances, but you can only make an engine so tight before it is metal on metal regardless of oil used. LL-17FE approved oils are junk in my opinion. I'll be running an 0W-30 myself. I still believe that oils should be able to flow properly. That's the big takeaway. An oil that can't flow is worse than a thin oil. Right? And for those that are tuned, should definitely use something better than a "fuel economy" rated oil.
What color this car ?
Too fancy for a torque wrench that clicks?? 😁
32 mm is socket size in metric 😁
1 1/4" is actually ever so slightly smaller, so you'd actually be better off using the Standard socket for once.
Is it okay to drain the oil using an oil pump? I appreciate that small amount of oil at the bottom may not be drained (not sure how much - anyone?) but it must be relatively small amount.
They don't have dipsticks, usually, though my 2018 530d does have one, which I use to suck the oil from...it usually gets all but half a liter.
Would this be the same with a 330e?
330e has the B48 engine I think - the 2ltr 4 cylinder rather than this one here, the 3 ltr 6 cylinder.
maybe e got video how to make donuts drift learn ?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
6.5 litres or 6.5 quarts? There's a difference.
6.5 liters that’s almost 6.9 (6.86)quarts
I would not open or remove the oil cap on the top until AFTER you are draining the oil below, that way the flow of oil is slower when you first open the drain bolt.... That should also help in presenting burned hands...
So right before you are going to replace the oil filter, that's when I would open up the oil cap ;) and the flow will then be free flowing...
You are welcome...
The reason for undoing the oil cap first is to ensure that removal is possible. It's not as much of an issue nowadays, but there used to be issues with frozen oil fill caps. Drain the oil and then you can't get oil back in ... huge problem. Most factory oil caps weren't a problem (go fuck yourself Mopar [dogshit cars]), but when dumbass losers put aftermarket oil caps on their shitty cars, it was a toss up whether or not I'd need a set of plier to wrench the fucking oil cap off.
Good tip.
Is the STP oil filter brand ok to use? Been doing research and information is a little scarce
Hey guys we call in yesterday to ask you if anybody ever replace oil level sensor on G20 theirs no videos nowhere on this
Any update?
32mm
Why liquimoly? Why not Castrol Edge? I just want to hear someone else’s opinion. I guess for me I see that BMW label telling me to use the recommended which ends up being Castrol
castrol magnatec is awesome,i always use castrol on my BMW 535i(f10)never had issue with oil consumption, car has 180 000km(112000mi)
Imagine changing out that OFHG 😥🙃
Bmw says 30nm for the screw under the car 🤘🏽
Bolt* but yeah good point
Isn’t that the wrong oil? 0W20 is correct. But it needs LL14 or LL17.
Next video: how to change your head gaskets.
Jeez I hate the new location of the oil filter. Even though completely irrelevant my 10 mil will end up falling in there while getting that thing out
How much does it costs to have this done?
My dealer charges about 150 for this
@@forty5r637 Mine was asking $250...which is why I'm here LoLoL
1 1/4” is a 32
What is wrong with BMW, E90 - 5w40 , f30 - 5w30 , g20 0w20, next stage is using water instead of oil for no emission and then we have engine repleace every "oil-water" change...
i don´t know if they really recommend 0w20 oil on the G2x series. hard to believe
They even put it on a sticker on the hood... crazy they use that light of an oil..
I could never use a microfibre towel for an oil change. Too cheap.
0w20😳 wouldnt run this thin soup in my b58.
Canadian Dealer recommended 0W-30.
Yep, 0w20 is basically water. I hate this fuel economy oil
I heard too thin oil and long OCI’s caused a lot of the timing chain issues on the n20s. Never trust the dealer. Lol
@@jeremy_yyds a lot of people run thicker 5W-40 LL-04 approved oil
It's what the engine is designed for.
It's not an issue if your engine is cooling properly, as a thicker oil won't really accomplish anything.
It's always going to be hotter inside your engine than outside.
The problem here is I don't have a G20 M340i....
Look at this guy wasting those nice chemical guys towels to catch the oil 😂
Better use genuine oil filter & lossen the oil filter so any of the oil in the filter will drain out and wont spill the oil in the engine bay....
Guess who makes the genuine oil filter? Mann...
So when was first oili change like bmw recommended after 20000miles? My friend have new x5 40i 2020 and is showing in service fackin 20000miles oili change wtf bmw dowing.
0w20 ????!!!!
0w20 XD
You forgot to tell how to reset oil alarm ?
Anyone else find it bonkers that BMW requires us to run the engine up to operating temp prior to checking the engine oil level? So....if you're engine oil level is super low for some reason, then you have to potentially damage the engine in order to check the oil level.... It's an absolutely absurd engineering decision, IMO.
My dealership only charges about 100 bucks why would anyone do this with the cost of oil and a filter not worth my time
Cheap no BMW approved long life oil?
What color this car ?
