@@bazebuster8330 What's the big deal though? It was not like they put plugins people already paid for behind a paywall. They tried a bad business idea, then they retracted and found a solution that is way better for everyone. It's not like Waves who tried to screw over every existing customer with their crap.
I tried X6, but I didn't really gel with it. I also have MBC, but I find it more useful as a general purpose multiband compressor rather than an OTT replacement. I have been using Fuse a lot lately. I really like it. I never really got on with the Xfer OTT.
Question: Would this fare better in a sound design scenario where you would usually stack OTTs on a bass along with some distortion? Is one instance of this superior to, say 2 or 3 instances of OTT? Cause I tend to use this technique without 100% knowing what I'm doing. The sound ends up just fine most of the time but I have been looking for a more controllable alternative as I begin to understand sound design and post processing a little more, and I'm really trying to avoid the "hit or miss" type of playing around
So, stacking otts usually does one or two things. The first is it does some wonky phase stuff and by using a ton of them you can make a pseudo all pass filter that makes stuff sound lasery. The second one has to do with rooting up the super super super quiet parts of a sound. Mick Gordon is famous for something he made called a doom compressor and essentially it pulls anything down from -400 db all the way up to zero. So by stacking some otizzles you are essentially in the means of that process. Just make sure you turn the clip on:) Do all the weird experiments, then go back and find out what made those experiments work if that makes sense.
Pro mb is more of a mixing tool where this is more for sound design. It’s a shame, because pro mb can’t do upward and downwards compression at the same time. It also doesn’t have extremely fast settings which can be important for taming crazy sounds
The OTT replacement is OXY OTT, with linear phase filters, and no, it does not introduce any pre ringing, at least i havent experienced that and i make music with an oscilloscope all the time
@@Alckemy i use it for sound design mostly where sometimes linear phase sounds different/worst/better so in those case I don't even mind but if I use it on drums or master, I really want it to be linear phase so I can dry wet, and I have never experienced any pre ringing in those cases
I like DST for this kind of stuff. Anyone use future audio DST? I got it on sale... It's pretty nice. It's not the same thing as mb comping. I think its mb saturation, but i get the high end energy i want out of it.

I'd call it an upgrade/next level or whatever rather than successor. Mostly because unlike OTT it's not available for free. YMMV and that's fine. 😊
