Trying to figure out why the chopper takes so long to land and also why doesn't he set up his take off in the direction of the hospital. Seems like a waste of time hovering around trying to set up for there destination

0524cami all depends on wind and surroundings

Landing at an unprepared LZ takes caution. Obstacles, FOD, civilians, low light, all reasons not to rush in. You notice just prior to touchdown, the heli yawed (away from oncoming wind) to face the situation and get a better look of surroundings.
On takeoff, the heli performed a power check, pretty standard safety precaution before performing a max power takeoff as he did. If you think flying a heli looks simple, lookup such thinks as Ring State Vortices and LTE. Serious considerations in such conditions. In terms of time, compared to a road ambulance, the pilot could make a brew and still get there quicker.

rkmyersuk well spoken. We had two land on the highway outside of work and they both were hovering at the same time. It was insane seeing the skill level of the pilots landing them between four cones and keeping it so straight that they missed the power lines by only a few feet.
