I've been in the aquarium hobby since July of 2020. I've gone from a small, red gravel 10 gal to a 25 to a 33gal with rocks and LOADS of plants + a shrimp bowl. Joey, thanking you ever so much for making me break my bank and for getting me into this hobby.
Dude straight up, i miss seeing your old in wall plywood aquarium... I know you're on to bigger and better things which have all been great but following that tank from the ground up is still my favorite thing you've ever done.
I have just been watching your old videos from 3/4 years ago and watching the aquarium gallery evolve over time. Ah! It looks so good !!!!
Joey, I think you should really consider the idea of an African cichlid setup (like Victorians, haps, or mbuna, etc.) with large rock work and caves. I'm sure you've kept them before, however I don't really recall, and I think it'd be an awesome project to help inform tons of inexperienced and likely even some more experienced folks.
I have done that in the gallery already.

Side note, I am considering either a small salt water tank, some frags and corals. Or a largish freshwater tank with some polypterus species or geophagus winemilleri. What would you go with?

😂😂😂 I love it... a group, a Shoal, a school of oscars.. how can you not love them, my dream fish.... someday!!! I've had one Oscar and it was back when I first started the aquarium hobby with a 10 gallon tank! I think I was about 15. Needless to say, I quit the hobby after that for a long time! Knowing what I know now, someday I will set up something appropriate and keep these incredible fish! Water puppies for sure 😂

You have shared enough experience to hopefully guide people the right direction with these fish!! It is super frustrating for fish to get trendy.... I live in an Rv Camper so fish tanks just aren't a possibility in my life anymore but i had several large tanks all my life until i downsized to this RV & Oscars were my passion!! Oscars are amazing because of their individual personalities. Grew up with tigers, red bellies and albinos. Too bad they're susceptible to hole in the head disease. :(
Joey thank you for educating and inspiring me in all aspects of this hobby. Because of the deep interest and love of aquariums you have instilled in me, I got a job as an aquatic specialist at my neighborhood Petco. Maybe I cant keep every Pleco and Goldfish out of 10 gallons in my community but everyday I try to educate and inspire my community to be responsible aquarists just like you have to me. Love what you do and keep up being you!
Just a suggestion for the fish in that mural. Take a sponge and some cooper paint . It will make it pop on that wall .Sounds like you got a plan.👍

If you are going to light up your mancave with the "kingofdiy" logo, why not go big and make a "wall aquarium" underneath the logo?
Hey! I think instead of doing one big corner tank... you should do a huge tank that covers the whole wall and has DIY behind it very lighted up. The corner tank is still a good idea either way.
You should set the panel angled from the corner downstairs. So not parallel to either wall, so it almost makes a triangle shape per say. That would be cool shape especially if you flip length size up and down!!!

Joey, for those 40s how about you make each tank have different kind of aquascape style, like one is Iwagumi, one is Dutch, etc. I think that is more interesting and inspiring.
I’m sure you already have an idea for those new tanks, but it may be cool to do a few tanks where their only purpose is teaching us how to breed them for a profit. Love the vids and keep em coming

1. On the mural - they went to a lot of trouble to create this for you and you’re going to hide it in the basement??? No Bueno Joey, it should be displayed as intended...in the gallery for all to enjoy.
2. Put the cylinder tank downstairs and use it as you promised the fish store. Keep your word Joey.
3. I know you’re trying to keep things interesting, but sometimes too much is just too much. You’re fans love you and we would be happy just to hear you talk about fish and the existing tanks. Do you really need to put a tank in a seldom used room (you said in the video) just to tear it out in the future because you rarely see it?
4. You commented in a previous video that the canister filters were a bust. Could you go into more depth as to why?

The gallery has come a long way from back in the day. My fishroom is in the garage, but tanks are slowly appearing in the house again as well. Wife is not so happy 😂

corner tanks are great i had one 6 foot across and 4 foot high ,dont sound big but they are huge when you actually look at them
Oscars are amazing fish. I got one 5yrs ago and I don't regret it. She is hands down my absolute favorite fish. I got Amber (my oscar) from our petsmart in Okotokes when she was 2.5 inches. She's now about 12.5-13 inches. Wouldn't trade her for anything.

You can put very tall plants in the tall corner aquarium with a wavermaker next to the tall plants for a cool effect!

Ahh dude I'm so happy to see Oscars, I personally don't have any, and wish I could find some space big enough to dedicate (maybe the garage workshop where the lady boss doesn't come...).
Since stumbling on yours and George farmers channels I have become a hobbiest, so still only 60 litre aquascapes.
However my sister, who ended up having a s**t deal while pregnant with my nephew and losing everything, ended up in a 1 room bedsit, all she had was a bed, a microwave her staffy puppy and a little tank with her Oscar.
The dog and the Oscar have been there through it all, both are the stupidest, loving creatures and she couldn't live without them.
The Oscar, really is the most personable fish you can find, not one are the same! And they are so easy to fall in love with.

I have my ruby oscar & tiger Oscar in my 180 love them
I’ve got only 1 Oscar in my tiny tank!! 4-5in baby I purchased about a month ago and I only feed him blood worms and brine shrimp frozen from omega one with a hint of fish flake every now and then with a 20gal tank with HOB 30gal filter and air pump with cichlid sand and freshwater live plants buried with some lite gravel rocks scattered around temporarily until I buy a 75gal tank and STAND.
This new project is going to be sooooo awesome!! Oscars? Be still my heart! ❤️

The best part of DIY aquariums and vivariums is also the worst part about them; literally unlimited options. If you have the material, you can easily find how to's on the internet to build any shape or style you want, then its a matter of where you put it and what you put in it. So easy to get lost in the options and be end up months later with zero progress made.

I gotta say, if you ever do want to add something more than the oscars i would highly recommend a nice school of angels, be they wild form or some kind of domestic breed for specific colour, i would love to see the two cichlids school in the same tank as they would in the amazon!

How about splitting the plexiglass vertically the long side in the air in the smaller side towards the wall kind of like a hexagon fronts with a quarter tank back in Then you can put your Styrofoam stuff on each side on the front On the side of the plexiglass

I'm so excited to see those oscars in the tank you're going to make! I had an oscar for a number of years, and really loved it. They are amazing fish! Unfortunately, I don't have the space now, but it's cool to watch other people's videos and see their awesome big tanks.

When I had my only Oscar, one of the main delights was growing him up from a tiny juvenile. You mentioned doing that but you got these 6" adolescents.?
I look forward to seeing how this tank comes along. My partner an non hobbyist surprised me with two baby around 3" Oscars last week luckily I have a spare tank always running haha. They truly are some characters. got a 150 gallon coming first week January cant wait to get it cycled and ready for them.
