It is my fave movie, I can honestly say the first time I saw the movie the way Maria reached when Carol came back it was like a wife waiting for her husband to come home because a part of her never believed he was gone, and towards the end when Carol had to leave, she was so hesitant and heartbroken, she literally inhales Maria as if to store her sent into her memory so she could take it with her

At least, that's my understanding... And tbf, what I'd have done in their case as well. Because, also, keep in mind, it's an interracial relationship too, and this black girl calling a white woman "mom" would cause them SOOOO many issues in the 90s. It was just safer for her to be called "Auntie".

Frankly, while I understood why they did it, I felt the romantic inclinations between the two were forced and Cap was better off being just "married to the job" as it were. Marc Lewis they probably had to hide their relationship because it was the 90s and we had the don’t ask to tell laws in America. Also her family probably didn’t approve, so maybe that’s why Carol is estranged from them.
Marc Lewis that’s the point, the movie implied that they were gay but they couldn’t put it in the movie specifically, because they weren’t brave enough. Or for what ever reason that we don’t know. That’s what this video is about. She had her own place because In the 90s you weren’t allowed to be openly gay in the military or you would get sent home and lose your job. It was the law back then (kinda like with trans ppl now) So they had to HIDE it. And she didn’t get to kiss her because the writers were too scared to explicitly say that she’s gay, but they meant it. Which totally sucks, they should just be brave and put it in. She left for 20 or so years because it was the right thing to do to protect the skrull people from going through a genocide. She stands up for what she believes in. That’s why she’s captain marvel.

Marc Lewis Romance is hardly ever necessary for a plot, but it is normally included in films even in superhero movies, so it’s not really about her liking either guys or girls, but it can still be included. And if you are watching the videos of a gay woman you might expect gay fan theory’s, there is no need to call all lesbians delusional bitches. And at last, yeah there are straight people in our „fantasy world“ , but there are hardly any lgbtq+ people in these movies, so I think it’s okay to have your own fan theories.

She was the 1st(female) Captain Marvel in the 80s and even led the Avengers. She goes by Spectrum now in the comics. Carol has existed longer but, she didn't take the title of Captain Marvel until 2012. Carol has been known as Ms.Marvel for a longer period. When she relinquished that title, Kamala got hit by the terrigen bomb and decided to take on the old name of her idol.
Right. But in the comics she considered a Mutant right? And Disney/Fox deal finalizes today. So I wouldn't be surprised if she Miss Marvels the FUCK outta the MCU while at the same time, begin to introduce the X-men.

@Jay El just seems like if showing children gay characters engaging in relationships is manipulative and ruins their innocence because they don't have a sexuality, them images of straight characters does the same thing. We can't shelter children from the existence of all sexualities and romantic experiences because sexuality is such an intrinsic part of what it means to be human, without which a character would seem incomplete. (Not that everything need focus on a character's sexuality or romantic relationships, in fact most things are better when they do not) Compelling characters reflect the people and world around us, and the truth is some of those people are gay. Being in the minority does not mean one's experience is any less valid or real, or compelling. Identifying with a particular character CAN shape the way a child views and interacts with the world (not 100% with you on the sexuality thing, but regardless), it's important for our media to display a wide array of realistic and healthy relationships. Even if children don't have sexual orientations, childhood is not an indefinite state, eventually virtually everyone is going to develop a sense of sexuality, and will need to know how to treat people (including themselves) with respect and understanding. Naivety about the diversity of human experience isn't going to do shit for anybody

@@Hannah-ps2lr It's not really stated how long they've known each other, Marie could've had a previous relationship with a man and upon meeting Carol chose to leave him for her. The movie does take place in the 90's and there are plenty of examples of people with parents who divorced because one of them wished to be authentic to themselves and be with someone of the same sex rather than pretending and remaining in an unhappy, loveless marriage.

I agree that there was a lot of tension between Maria and Carol. But the thing that got me was Maria's box of memories of her and Carol growing up together. Tbh it's totally normal for two best friends to have some old pictures of when they were young, but the fact that she had a whole photograph album of them proves there was something going on between them. Not to mention that Maria kept Carol's jacket for six years even after she "died." Carol's jacket must've been that sentimental to Maria for some reason.

Nature isn’t defined the ability to give life. Homosexuality is seen in nature, and in many instances preserves life. There have been instances where homosexual couples (human and non-human) have care of children who would die without parents. There are also plenty of LGBTQ+ people who’ve had kids.
Do you know what doesn’t create life? Superpowers.
Do you know what else some organized religions say is sinful? Cutting your hair, wearing mixed fabrics, eating seafood, working on the weekends, etc.
Notice how I said “some organized religions” because not all organized religions believe homosexuality is a sin, and some religions don’t believe in sin at all; and some people don’t partake in organized religion so your argument doesn’t really compel them.
If you have an issue with homosexuality (and any else that has to do with the LGBTQ+ community) because of your religion I suggest you either:
- Stay with your religion but educate yourself and realize that homosexuals (and everyone in the LGBTQ+ community) are human beings who deserve the same rights as you.
- Find a more tolerant world view.
- Stay with your religion but kindly remove yourself from topics that don’t involve you.

You hit the nail in the head with how they would treat all this in Endgame.
Maria and Monica are straight up not even mentioned in EG and Carol seems to care more that Fury got snapped than any of them _(see the reaction shot of her with teary eyes in the Avengers' office when they're showing pictures of the snapped people and Fury comes up)._
And then Maria dies of cancer off-screen thanks to Wandavision, with the added bonus of the story implying that Carol never even came around to visit her dying friend once. Not when Maria initially got the cancer, not after she recovered from it or when the cancer returned *(and both of these previous ones she was on earth for)* , and not even before she died, alone, whithout her daughter.
