In todays video i visit Westfield Mt Gravatt (In the suburb of Upper Mt Gravatt). Checking out a few things along the way. Join me for a full walking tour of the entire Shopping mall.
Following the name change from Westfield "Garden City" to Westfield Mt Gravatt on August 2022, To better reflect its location, although the centre is not in the suburb of Mount Gravatt but in the neighbouring suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt. In 2022 "David Jones" announced the closure of its Mt Gravatt store in January 2023 after 52 years. So plenty of changes in and out of this mall.
Fact: Mt Gravatt was first named in about 1840, after Lieut. George Gravatt, who was commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Colony in 1839

A bit of history about why it used to be named Garden City: David Jones opened several shopping centres around Australia - obviously with itself as an anchor at each location. These shopping centres were each called 'Garden City'. I don't know where all of them were, but other than Mt Gravatt, Booragoon in Perth used to be one.
Of course, David Jones at Mt Gravatt is no more. But when the centre first opened, David Jones was originally located in what is now the carpark facing the food court down from Michael Hill and the tattoo place.
In the 90s, before Westfield took over, the mascot for Garden City was the peacock, as could be seen in multiple stained glass windows around the centre. The theme song in ads for the centre was 'Baby, I Love Your Way' - specifically the Big Mountain cover version.

This shopping mall looks huge compare to how one of our places are but its more in the open street like the old day style. I guess inside will keep anyone cool above em air-conditioners if its a hot day outside. Lol spotted one old granny in pink going around in circles one end to another. Shes doing great for exercise. Spotted Big W which i never knew what that was until i found out thanks for filming that as you walked past it. Pretty much looks like a nice place to walk in and just window shopping. Love to see more of this in your videos. Take care

wow! this looks like the typical mall when I was a teen. So many things to do. Places to meet up, eat, etc. great view as always. Now to determine if I can afford to live there. getting much closer. I won't move till I can do so without being a pain to economy. lol

Thank you for the information about the old name of Garden City. I notice some posters written with the name Garden City. I mean from what ive just learned is that they change the name back in 2022 calling it now Westfield Mount gravatt or short for Mt gravatt. Yeah bro the OLED's are way better but way more expensive. Depends what sizes you go for. Take care

Unless it was Christmas for shopping spree times. Huge place but slightly less people out there. Your right many people just lead on buying things online as time goes by. That shopping centre is huge compared our shopping centres up here In Townsville ours dont have half of much as that one does a bowling g alley and arcade is what our shopping centres need up here

When we lived in Brisbane it was still called Garden City! I don’t’t like the new name. Thanks for taking us on the tour, keep it up! We especially liked seeing 8 Street!
The old name Garden city was a easier way to remember it's location shopping centre. Though it has changed. Some people still call it the old name. Thank you 👍
