I wonder if a large metal can would fit directly onto the fan. Punch some holes in the bottom of the can. Might need some legs. But you could end up with a very compact cooling unit. Thanks for the inspiration!

Is this device still working? Using the same fan. Concerned about heat and chaff.

Tom will chime in if he has time. Heat isn't a concern since it's just the heat from the beans that's being pulled through the air inside of the box. Most of the chaff will have been removed by this point. Any remaining chaff will remain in the metal tray with the coffee.

I just built something like yours Tom, but I used a high speed fan (double the CFL 110) and got fan air blowing on to the coffee. My thinking was chaffe removal and cooling, was I wrong in my thinking? Oh, I used a a 6" stainless steel berry colander for a tray. Also I used an large wooden cigar box and attached some feet on the bottom so I got some air flow. Usually can find the boxes for a couple dollars or look on Esty. This will keep or box fan small and compact. The ID of my box was 7.5"L x 7.0w"x 6.0"D

Blowing air onto the coffee will aid in cooling but pulling air through it will cool it a lot faster since the ambient air is being pulled through the gaps between the coffee beans vs being blown over the top of it.

Electric leaf blower & a #10 can with LOTS of 1/8" holes drilled in the bottom. Good for 1kg.

Yes, pulling air out of the box pulls ambient air down and through the bean mass
