Jamie, thank you for sharing this recipe. I go through vanilla extract very quickly. I've thought about making my own and now you have inspired me.

After making it a few times on my own, I think it will be hard for me to go back to a little bottle of it. Thank you for watching!

You "may" want to consider and mention that not all vodkas are gluten free. Depending on the grain used and distilling process. The ONLY kind I trust, as I am EXTREMELY sensitive to all gluten in every way shape or form is Tito's brand. And unfortunately it is not cheap in my state. 😕 But I DO appreciate your time teaching me something new and interesting and I am definitely going to try making some. 😊

Thank you for the feedback Monica. It is greatly appreciated. You are correct, while pure distilled vodka is gluten free, if a Vodka company adds flavors or other ingredients after the distilling process then the product may no longer be gluten free. It's great that brands like Titos openly disclose this making it easy for consumers to know that their brand is gluten free.

I used spiced rum and 10 beans in about 3 cups. Didn’t get as dark as yours but I only split half the beans.

Ooooh!!! The spiced rum idea is AWESOME. I think I’m gonna need to try some that way. 👏👏 Thank you for sharing.

And always buy beans by weightl...not by 10 or 20...one ounce of beans per 8 ounce of alcohol or to do a "doubble fold"...2 ounces per 8 ounces

Hi I just found your video while serving youtube. I just made my first vanilla 64oz (8c to 8oz beans), orange (32oz jar to6,7 orange skins) extracts on 12/8/23, and did a 1/2 32oz jar w/about 6 lemon skins for lemon extract yesterday. I'm going to try and wait a year. A lot videos said the longer the wait the better the taste. From what I saw and used for the vanilla is 1cup = 1oz bean. 😊

My vanilla extract made with Svedka 80 proof vodka 9/22/2022 with vanilla beans per the recipe I used. I opened it today to fill my extract bottles for Christmas gifts and the vodka taste is too strong. How do I correct this? I’m so disappointed. I used grade b Madagascar vanilla beans and used their recipe. I ordered them from Amazon x 3 packages 25 per package.

Hi Rebecca, I think you'll notice that while the vodka taste may be strong as is, when using it in your baking recipes, you will not taste the vodka. The alcohol will dissapate as your recipe bakes. I hope this helps.

@@SavorySaver that would be great! I really don’t know how to adjust it using the vanilla beans I ordered.

@@rebeccadees Another viewer linked this video that has some good info. It says to use 1oz of vanilla beans per cup of alcohol. ua-cam.com/video/5QewrpGHQ9o/v-deo.html Jump to 13:02 in the video for that info.
