→ This is the town of the experiment that went wrong in Cuba, that would have changed everything, perhaps, or everything would have gone as wrong as Ukraine. We are in Cienfuegos, the most beautiful city in Cuba and one of the cleanest, but it does not escape what is happening in our country.
We left the city center in a private taxi, after having gone through trouble to get a collective car or public transportation. We go to the Jiragua power plant, passing through the nuclear city to see what remains of that famous project designed by Fidel Castro and what the city where people still live is like.
More inflation is coming, people are worried and violence has skyrocketed as a result of poverty. Cuba is going through a dark moment in its history.
There are things that do not appear in the documentaries and promotional videos of Cuba, a real life that every Cuban has had to live and only we know about it. The shortcomings corrode our society at unsuspected levels, leading to corruption, crime, envy and other evils that have affected us for a long time. We want our children to be better than us; however, many times our families end up broken as a result of emigration to the USA and other countries. Our children risk their lives to have a better future. The rationing of products available for sale has made it more difficult to live in Cuba and just to be able to afford food in the markets and stores. Havana feels it as it is dependent on tourism but now there is no tourism and almost no trips to Cuba. The other provinces feel it even more. The socioeconomic class difference is accentuated and those who do not receive remittances from abroad have a harder time making ends meet.
