I have looked everywhere for the spine paper that you call tyvac for a few months now. I have asked many people and no one knew what I was talking about. I was calling it tie back because that is what I thought people were saying. Had you not written down the link I would have tried again with no success. So thank you so much for that link......finally. Man , you have no idea.......lol.
Thank you for such good and clear instructions! I am putting my first Readers Digest journal together today. I have watched your videos a second and third time and hope for a great outcome!
I have a list of projects that I want to do in 2020. Making a journal out of a book is one of the projects. Thanks for this informative video. I'm going to start gathering the items......
Hello! Great video! I have questions: 1. Could you reinforce the spine with a piece of chipboard and some of the tear-proof paper? 2. Can you sew into the spine when you use chipboard (lightweight)? Thanks!
I so struggle with binding since I’m new at Junk Journalling. I think it takes me so long to do the Journals from avoiding the binding “issue” 😬 oh well gotta get over it and go for it!! Tfs you’re amazing and your Journals are a dream!
Thank you so much for your tutorial, greatly appreciated. Just starting out making junk journals and had a question. For a gutted book with a fabric spine, what is the order for reinforcing, tyvek, chipboard then sew signatures into the kraft tek? Not sure if the chipboard goes on first or the tyvek. Also can you show link your referred to for pamphlet stitch into kraft tek sew in. Thank you so much, I really appreciate all of your videos
When I'm adding a Kraft Tex spine I dont add chipboard, it's not necessary. The Tyvek will hold the fabric together and Kraft tex will guve the spine shape. The tutorials are in the description below the video.
Hello! Clarification on my first question-1. Can you use a piece of chipboard and tear-proof paper at the same time (together) to reinforce the spine? 2. When you are using tear-proof paper, does it take the place of the decorative end pages or can I place a piece of decorative paper over it? 3. Do you ever create junk journals where you sew through the spine? Thanks again!
1. Yes you can, my suggestions come from trying things out and settling on my preferences, so I encourage you to experiment with supplies that you can obtain easily. 2. The decorative endpapers are just that - decorative so they wouldn't replace anything that has structural purpose on the spine. 3. Yes I do occasionally sew through the spine if it's plain and structurally sound.
Thanks for the video. I also like using kraft tex. When you do the spine where you glue only the 2 flaps, is this really as strong? I think that in an older book, the spine wouldn't have anything to support it? Hope you understand what I'm asking
Paula Foerder I think I understand and yes it's just as strong since as I mentioned I've also added the tyvek in there as well prior to adding the Kraft Tex book block. 😊
Can I add another paper on top of the Kraft tex? Before I stich on the signatures? I have it the Kraft color and it doesn't match my color scheme of the book.
Wondering why you do not hide the Kraft-Tex behind the inside cover paper so you do not see it? Your videos always have it on top of the inside cover pages.
