Sorry Evan. I worked 20 years at American Standard in Toronto Ont. We would have to add extra kiln blocking to certain pieces before firing to avoid "slumping"..( sagging or drooping). Especially on one piece toilets and lavas on pedestals. Fired pieces do shrink during their trip through the kiln. About 18 percent , but I could be wrong on that. Cheers!
@@larmstrong156 Thanks for this reply. I do not contradict your experience with firing larger pieces of what I Imagine are slip cast objects, where the softening during firing can lead to potential slumping, if not corrected for. Agree with the 18% figure for shrinkage. Obviously the rather small and uncomplicate shapes I have experience with do not slump, but I acknowledge your experience with larger pieces. Cheers and once again thanks, from NZ to Canada.
lol no masks or gloves or goggles or anything back then! I remember watching these on PBS like 20 years ago as a kid. amazing. thank you.
I had a white 1980s AS cadet but sadly it broke from being left out in the winter. It was not in a safe spot.
This is totally awesome!
I know how you feel!! I'm trying to get a rare pink Canadian AS toilet this week!!!
Awesome video. Well done! Commendable depth.
can you post a video how the moulds are casted from start to finished? i commend your work
TOILET: use me well and keep me clean, and I'll not tell what I have seen, hahaha
love the quote at the end
Really good video, but I want to correct one small idea. Clay indeed softens somewhat during firing, but it does not slump. It shrinks.

I don't understand the comment in the minute 2.49. What is the purpose of the blue paint?
...check for minute cracks in the fired ware...
@@larmstrong156Thanks!!! I have found products with patches. Are these patches a good solution for the cracks?
@@victortobar224 Hey Victor.. They'll put the patch and put it through a 2nd fire., Much lower temp..!
